He is not listening to lawyers and their clients or your boring phone conversations. He is wiretapping suspected terrorists. Good God you bleeding heart liberals, when are you going to get it.
What would Andy Griffith think of a prissy, namby pamby, mama's-boy, criminal defense lawyer who posts a blog that criticizes religion, law enforcement, patriotism and anything American, especially southern or rural American?
11:03: I don't know about religion or southern or rural, but I have NOT known Barry to criticize patriotism or "anything American".
The point of this post is that evesdropping of this kind is illegal, violates the Constitution, and therefore is itself un-American.
In my opinion, standing up for the Constitution and the rule of law is probably the most patriotic thing we can do as Americans.
And to the earlier 11:03, by "He" I assume you are speaking of our president. For your information, our president and his administration are indeed listening to lawyers and their clients. This is allowed under their theory that so-called enemy combatants are not criminal suspects, but that they fall into some no-man's land, beyond the law, where traditional legal rights do not apply.
And it is worth pointing out in this context that while this only applies to "suspected terrorists": (i) the suspicion needed to so classify a person does not rise to the level of "probable cause" as is normally needed to obtain a warrant for this type of investigatory activity, and (ii) the definition of what constitutes a terrorist under this legal structure is so vague that it could be applied to people "suspected" of all kinds of crimes that have heretofore not been classified as terrorism.
Since when did being a good American require a person to abandon their critical thinking skills? I think we can all support our government's fight against terrorism while also exhibiting a healthy skepticism about how they are carrying on this fight.
11:03a anon: He wiretapped the Quakers just to mention one group and they are hardly terrorists.
It matters not anymore because, after the Democrats retained power, Bu$h decided to start following the law on wiretapping and get the court order first.
11:45, why is it patriotic to criticize President Bush, but wrong to criticize Barry? We also need a healthy skepticism about charlatans who seek to influence others.
I think it is perfectly appropriate to criticize Barry, as with anyone who publishes a blog containing political opinions. And I agree that we should all be skeptical about anyone or anything that seeks to influence our opinions. Identifying and exposing charlatans is one of my own personal hobbies.
That being said, my comment above was simply a disagreement with a particular point of criticism directed at Barry.
I am not sure "Liberally" applies to its contents. I think the name and its contents, serves the intention of the author, which is obviously to rile everyone up. I would say that it is a success.
Some of us enjoy the show because that is all it really is.
We fall for it everyday. Picture, blurb, and spew. Hot chick, hot chick, picture of President, blurb, spew. It is Colmes on vicadin with a wave of Springer.
To digress, what is a terrorist? I ask because whatever you think one is today will most likely be a different definition in the near future. If you don't get that, then you are probably misinformed as to what is really going on. Like anonymous 11:03.
Faggot, That disease I passed on to your wife probably won't show symptoms in you for a couple of more days. You're welcome. How did you know that I needed a penis reduction? Your wife said she wouldn't tell.
Good grief, I keep running into the need-for-supervision comments. Ironic too, because I love "being the boss of" what comes out of my mouth. =) Some of the "???!!!!" things that pop up (WHY??) though only make me envision the chimp-scenario MZ threw out ages ago...no better description for it...
All of that aside, I still can't get over the super-irony of this Andy Griffith clip. Andy should be President, for sure. My church has an Andy Griffith study series...so goofy sounding, I know, but kinda good...although, it does me the sillies, heading to Sunday School to watch TV...

"Whether a man is guilty or innocent," we have to run up his legal fees as much as we can. Justice be damned. Barry needs more high tech gadgets.

I would vote for Taylor, Goober, Gomer, or Barney before I would ever consider casting a ballot for Hillary.
In my book Otis would be better than Hillary any day.
We need more cowbell on this blog.
