I Sooooo Want To Find the Found Photos

STEPHENVILLE - The president of the Tarleton State University chapter of the NAACP said Wednesday that he and other students are upset about a Martin Luther King Day party where students ate fried chicken, drank malt liquor and dressed in faux gang apparel. (Story.) Edit: Thanks to a commenter, the pics can be found here. Edit #2: The Morning News now links to the pictures but actually has this disclaimer. "Warning. Some may find offensive." Now that's some sensitive readers! Edit #3: After thinking about it for few hours, the most offensive aspect of the pictures is that it looked like a really bad party.

My statement to that "president"--get a life.

Isn't it ironic that the color of their skin will determine whether they are reprimanded or not? If you are Charles Barkley, you can comment as he did just the other day while calling a basketball game "those BOYS are running around the court like they STOLE SOMETHING". A different announcer would have been fired. You can spew racist remarks and perpetuate inappropriate words as long as you are a certain color. And as always, it's open season on white men. Heck, you can even make fun of white men in movie titles.

Send all of them to Iraq!

Wow! I'm absolutely disgusted by this story & these comments! I can not believe that people still think it is ok to behave so inapproriately. I don't think it is funny when someone calls me a "cracker" and makes fun of my culture and history & I don't think it is funny to do it to other people. I thought times had changed, but I guess I was wrong.

Anonymous said...

I could care less if someone calls me a cracker. And how is eating fried chicken behaving iapproriately? How do you go through life every day by being offended at everything. You my friend are pathetic. Ease up and let the good times roll.

Anonymous said...

Now if they would of been eating chicken and waffles-that would of been a different story.

In college you have plenty of time to think of stupid things to do that will make you and your friends laugh. I am guilty of doing things of that nature. I will bet you dollars to dimes those kids never once thought about it effecting anyone who was not participating.

As an alumni of the mentioned Fraternity I am laughing my butt off just thinking about the other alumni who are going to be pissed that the Fraternity was mentioned in the article or possibly associated. All the ones who were in there to do something other than drink lots of beer and have something to do on Tuesday nights.

Is everyone else as offended as I am when da black folk eat fried chicken, drink malt liquor and dress up in gang clothes? And when they are in a group, there is no volume control. They are all trying to outshout each other. Other than that, their music is very good ain't it Barry.

All this proves is that Tarleton frat guys are idiots.

It's stupid, but it's not criminal. Punish them by publishing all the photos.

Photos are at The Smoking Gun. This entire incident has been blown completely out of proportion and exacerbated by the TSU president's response. Because of McCabes' and the black student's over-blown reactions, the good 'ol National Assoc for the Advancement of "Liberal" Colored People and Jesse Jackson have new fodder to chew on for a while!

Obviously Anon 10:47 knows nothing about Fraternity life on the Tarleton Campus. I will admit that Fraternity's are for the most part stupid but they are different there. The reason being is that it gives young kids searching for direction something to be apart of. I have visited campuses across Texas where if you didn't belong to a certain group then you were not invited to a party and things of that nature. However at Tarleton if you were to attend a party you would find people from all the Fraternity's associating. Not only that but some of my closest friends from college were apart of a different fraternity. The school just offers a neat atmosphere for people to grow in.

You know, its funny. The fraternities I have been associated with are a little bit of everything you all have mentioned. Having been in on, and had sons in one as well, I can attest that there is plenty of time for fun. Yep, I mean parties and doing some stupid things. But by the same token, the ones I am famaliar with also stress grades, community involvement, and individual accomplishment. I'm proud to say that while my sons were active in fraternity life, and while each took a turn at Community Service Chairman, that fraternity was recognized by the university and by the city as the first place contributor to serving community needs and services. Thats tons of volunteer hours per member and they competed against lots of groups from the university other than fraternal organizations. Both boys graduated with over 3.6 GPA's on a 4 point system, both went on to graduate school. The fraternity stressed grades and offers semester scholarships to its members for attaining certain GPA levels. The majority of the young men in this fraternity are in the same boat. This is also not uncommon among the other fraternities on this particular campus. If you haven't been there, maybe you don't quite now all the facts.

Two observations.

First, what exactly is "faux gang apparel?"

These two look more like Barbaro than "faux gang memebers."

white people everywhere can really stand proud of TSU and their frats. a real bunch of intelligent indiviuals with a bright future. wonder what their parents are like and what their kids will be like. proud proud proud.

A college fraternity did something controversial? Since most stuff on the internet is fake I must assume this is too, photoshop people? I blame the Democrats.

12:07 must be Dean Wormer.

Black fraternities have similar parties all across America. Some dress as Klan members.

There is currently no law against having poor taste. Lighten up Francis.

Can someone please explain why anyone would find these photos offensive, reprehensible, or despicable? These are college kids acting like most college kids.
They did not murder anyone, they did not drag anyone through the streets of Stephenville behind their trucks, they did not rape anyone, they did not even call anyone the "N" word! I just don't get it!!!

Presidents day is coming up so let one of the black fraternities dress up in argyle sweaters, drink scotch, and eat caviar and we will call it even.

Is it politically correct to refer to the members of the NAACP as "The Colored's"? It is, after all, part of the acronym.

Anonymous said...

I think the the ole President of the NAACP(ni***rs, apes, animals, coons, and possums) saw his chance to be in the spotlight. Doesn't look worthy of all the attention to me.

Gleemonex said...

It's offensive because it is members of the oppressor class trading in the worst, most ignorant stereotypes of the oppressed class for "humor," and particularly on a day meant to honor a national leader who spent his life working for peace and equality for all people.

Or, taking my Kollege hat off for a second, it's pure jackassery, and it's not even funny. I'm a whitey, and I find it offensive -- but that's just it, "offensive." I'm not gonna go whining to the University about it -- I'm just going to be annoyed, and know these people for the low-class, cracker-ass ignoramuses that they are.

By the way -- please start signing your posts, y'all. "Anonymous" is the coward's way out. Right, kingfish?

Reading about "sensitive readers" on your blog kinda cracked me up...

Anonymous said...

Mostly these kids are just morons, but to choose to do this on a day to honor a great Civil Rights Leader is just in poor taste. Not illegal, just stupid.

It just became clear. This blog has saved me many thousands of dollars in therapy. It is my parents fault that I am a rascist. As a child, I played cops and robbers and cowboys and indians. Not once was I scolded for being inthenthitive to others feelings. I grew up believing that it was OK to dress like others and act like them. And then along came halloween and boy did I rush to be a KKK member. I now belong to every racially insensitive orginization there is. If there is any race or group, I am opposed to it. I stay very busy going to rallies. I am even against the superior white race. I would like to thank my parents for opening my eyes to the world and allowing me to gear all my anger towards everything and everyone not like me.

If these kids had painted their faces black, Jesse Jackson would have had face time on tragedy TV for the next 3 months until the school forced this fraternity to disband and all involved in this travesty were forced to apologize to the entire black community(whoever that is) and forced to attend diversity training. Then Jesse would be freed up to go to some other race crime scene and start the whole process over. I am not sure, but is he still going to hijack some other American Corporation to give the lying black call girl in the Duke Lacrosse scandal a full scholarship or was that just race bait talk until he found out like the rest of us that she made it all up to extort money from "whitey"? Now that Barry is what I call pimpin. Jesse Jackson pimpin white college boys to continue his mission of keeping himself on TV. Not George Bush praising a real African American that is a true role model for other "African" Americans.

This looks like something that was done in the privacy of someone's home. Apparently this was not something done out at a MLK reception or on University property. No one wore "black face", and in fact some of the kids who were there for the party appeared to be "of color". Poor taste and poor judgment to put the photo's out in the public domaine, but I would hope the powers that be, would not throw someone under the bus for something like this. If people want to have a party in this fashion, in their own privacy, it is really not anyone's including the University's business.

Why don't we get a group together of whities and mexicans and any other race that has been harrassed by the NAACP regarding race issues. Let's get all dramatic, make big issues and, get on TV when a black person is being racist against us. Let's show them they need to look in the mirror. Maybe that'll shut 'em up.

The MLK parth at TSU was started by a man and his "black" roommate about 7 or 8 years ago. They had the day off and decided to make good use of it. It takes place every year by his friends, and has been blown out of proportion. Actually the pictures really don't look much different than any other party at TSU, drinking and cooking out. oh look someone brought chicken for the midnight snack.

Anonymous said...

Channel 8 news just reported the students talked, cried and made up. It is all over.

Anonymous said...

So far, all the Frat guys at the party have been kicked out of their fraternity, one female student has been dismissed from her sorority, one young man was fired from his job, etc. What a blatant overreaction by everyone involved! I hate to think about what might happen if some of the Tarleton kids really do something bad?

Anonymous said...

These kids are just ignorant - plain and simple. They obviously come from homes and backgrounds with absolutely no racial tolerance or education in diversity. In this case, ignorance is not bliss. As a 47 year old white woman, I am extremely offended by what these kids did and think they should be required to attend diversity training as there should be campus wide at Tarleton. I can understand how individually the pictures are not necessarily offensive and like Barry said, looked like a pretty lame party, but the concept of the whole party is disgusting and especially on MLK day. What a slap in the face to all (black, white, and anyone else) who have faught and continue to fight for social justice.

I'm ashamed of any/all Tarleton students who did not stand up against what these kids did. They are equally guilty. Like it or not, schools are held accountable for students' behavior. How they handle this situation could make/break future enrollment for the college.

Neither of my kids (both college age) considered Tarleton because of the lack of ethnic diversity and the redneck cowboy stereotype associated with the majority of students there. It's a sad day when Tarleton did nothing but prove this stereotype.

Low class white trash with no class.

Anonymous said...

I graduated from TSU and really do not think much about it. The students were off campus for one and they were just trying to have fun and be stupid. I really do not think they were being racist! It's just something for "others" to bring up and cry about. Seriously--this is ridiculous. Do we have nothing else to talk about? Get a life!

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:10

If you and your children would have done research the results would have shown there is more to Tarleton than Rednecks. Even though there is a large group of Cowboys and the school competes very well in the College Rodeo there ar plenty of kids from the metroplex, Austin, San Antonio, Waco and on and on. The enrollment increases tremendously every year and growth is limited more by facilities than the desire to attend.

Just b/c they participated in this party doesn't mean they weren't taught better at home. You are just more stupid than the kids.

Wow - until this I never realized how sheltered my life is. I guess I've been guilty of being racially insensitive without even realizing it. I buy Aunt Jemima syrup, when I should be joining a protest against their company for their racial slurring packaging. And obviously all the KFC and Chicken Express businesses will have to get along without me since that's now a racial thing. And no more birthday parties at a Mexican restaurant - heaven forbid they plop a sobrero on my head! Maybe someone should print a list of these things...the clothes, accessories, food... and the race, religion or culture to which they are offensive. I just hope they remember to include us religious Caucasians on that list... cause I've sure seen folks doing stuff I found offensive.

9:10, I feel sorry for your kids. When you were considering a college for your kids it sounds like the number one priority was ethnic diversity. How pathetic. Was another consideration whether or not they got Oprah and the Oxygen channels in the dorms? If I were choosing a college for my kids(which I would not do because it would be their decision) I would put the type classes they offered at the top of the list. Forcing a diversity class on the whole school because of a few is kind of a reach isn't it? If that was forced on me as a student, I would be packed and out of there by sundown. Oprah is the anti-christ and has already infected your brain.

Anon 9:10am....Your post is one of the most judgemental rantings I have read in awhile. While you so quickly indict an entire campus for what you believe to be wrong and top it off by calling them low class white trash, you and you kids endorse stereotyping. You said it all with the comment about rednecks. The only people I feel sorry for are your kids for having to be raised by a self righteous blow hard like you.

Right on 11:12 and 11:13

10:22 Thank you. People who are very racially sensitive, as 9:10, should realize they are doing the same thing that they are so against. Step back and take a look in the mirror.
"Ethnic groups are also usually united by certain common cultural, behavioural, linguistic and ritualistic or religious traits."
Maybe they should be required to have some education in diversity training.

The redneck cowboy stereotype..... I suppose you did nothing to single out this stereotype.

Think about it.

Low class, white trash, with no class.
