It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

The "What does it mean?" at the end of the last one makes me laugh.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

And they still aren't sure what caused the jet, heading from Paris to Cairo, to go down.

  • They tried for an hour before they gave up.  That's ghoulish.

  • Dateline Virginia: A school administrator was criminally charged when a six year old brought a gun to school and shot and injured a teacher. Yesterday, the judge granted a directed verdict after the State rested. (The fact that the prosecutors charged her with eight counts for each of the eight bullets the child had tells you a lot.)

  • Well, actually it was a former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas..

  • The news of this NASCAR death came down yesterday afternoon, but the New York Post has an update this morning.

  • Update from yesterday: A grand jury refused to indict the Trinidad, Texas woman who was guilty of complaining about the city's water.

  • Dateline Austin. We truly can't have nice things.

  • Speaker Mike Johnson pulled the measure off the floor yesterday once he knew Trump was in trouble.

  • Lots of headlines yesterday about how Republican senators were outraged with the Insurrectionist Slush Fund after a closed door meeting with Acting AG Todd Blanche. So what are they going to do to stop it? See the highlighted text:

    • So I get to write a check to guys like this?

  • I'm not sure Trump knew that Junior was getting married this weekend.

    • I was completely distracted by this guy in the background. Buddy, if you don't get that thing fixed, it's gonna blow.

  • The Business Second™. From the front page of the Washington Post, and I find this surprising:
  • Legal stuff.  I promise you AI is going to have this number skyrocket even more. And the AI- prepared-document filings by pro se litigants in those cases will be able to fill the Library of Congress.

  • Very legal nerdy stuff: For you civil lawyers, the Fort Worth Court of Appeals yesterday affirmed a jury's take-nothing jury verdict after Hurricane Harbor in Arlington was sued by the mother of a kid who was murdered in the parking lot. The main issue was the admissibility of extraneous crimes in the area, and the judge was not kind to the Plaintiff in that regard. The briefs were great, and you can tell there was a lot of money poured into this case in order to try it. And it looks like there is a Decatur legal connection to it all, but I can't tell how much.
  • The head coach for the Evil Empire took a shot at Texas Tech.

  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 6 years and 323 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

I had forgotten how much she struggled while in office.

  • This is a crazy story (and a very detailed one) regarding a woman who was arrested for a felony because of a Facebook post.  Trinidad is down by Corsicana with a population of 880.

  • Gift linkEveryone involved in this traffic accident made some very poor choices.

  • Pretty big story out of Weatherford about the planned construction of a massive data center (with a little irony in the headline.)

  • Updates regarding the Insurrectionist Slush Fund:
    • This guy is such a clown.  Video

    • And we will never know who all gets paid or how much.
      "Pay the man his money."

    • "Stand back and stand by" turned out to be a promise.

    • New York Times editorial: “Americans should be clear-eyed about what the president is doing. He is taking their money and showering it on criminals.”

  • What Congress?

  • One of our oligarchs said this about Trump yesterday.

  • I've never understood why Republicans drag out that Scott Pressler guy for the crowd.

  • The more you study this photo, the crazier it gets.

  • Messenger - Above the Fold

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

The Presumptive Republican nominee got a head start on who he might pick if elected.  Neil Gorsuch, who he would end up nominating, was not on the list.

  • More revelations about the Insurrection Slush Fund:  Trump and his family may have cheated on his past taxes, but the IRS can no longer do anything about it. The corruption is unprecedented.

  • I wonder if Cornyn is rethinking his plan to name Highway 287 after Trump?

  • Update on the Cybertruck in Lake Grapevine.

  • Some reports make this sound like the Kansas City receiver has had his probation revoked and he's going to jail because of it.  Nope.  As part of his original sentence he was going to have to sit for 30 days in the Dallas County jail at some point during his probation.  After testing positive for THC, the judge ordered him to start serving the 30 days right now.

  • Big fire in McKinney yesterday afternoon from a lightening strike. Video.
  • If you don't get hit by a Cybertruck in a local lake, you might get blown up by a pipe bomb.

  • This world is getting too weird.

  • Random thought: Trump loves the security features of his new ballroom so much and is so anxious to get the thing built, that it's almost like he's expecting to use it as a bunker in the future. (And we now know that if you are outside committing acts of violence on his behalf, you will not only the pardoned, but you'll be rewarded with big bags of money from a slush fund.)

  • Elections:
    • Trump got a win last night. Massie voted to release the Epstein files.

    • Alabama did not help with its reputation.

  • This is really good and detailed.

  • Nerdy legal stuff: There was a capital murder conviction reversed yesterday because the defendant's family was excluded from the voir dire process because of lack of courtroom space. Hernandez v. State, No. 14-25-00292-CR (Tex.App. - Houston[14th Dist.] 2026)
  • Falling through a manhole in midtown Manhattan seems unusual:
