Who would want this guy as a head coach, when as a defensive coordinator he averaged giving up over 400 yards per game? He must know someone in high places in Dumas.
Well, I wonder if the article says that the head coach of Bridgeport is an offense first kind of coach. Or maybe that the coach uses a platoon system where kids play either offense or defense and not both. And at a 3A school like Bridgeport that limits your talent pool on both sides of the ball.
I bet if he had first choice of what kids to use, the defense would be a hell of a lot better.
He was also the Defensive Coordinator there when they went far into the playoffs in the early 00's. Philip Daughtery was QB don't know which exact years but you catch my drift. I have heard he is a really good motivator.
To clarify Anon 9:50, the DC when the Bulls went to the final four in '01, was none other than Pete Hart. Burt was never the DC until the past two seasons. He had the secondary in the '01 & '02 seasons for B'Port. He went on and became the DC at Dallas Skyline in the 03 & 04 seasons before returning to B'Port in '05.
You can take all the DC's in Wise county, a $5 bill, and get coffee @ nearly any STARBUCK"S. Outside of that, they aren't worth much to the education process.
Decatur plays such a good defense that they gave up how many points and yards against Wylie in the 1st round??? The answer is 36 points and...wait for it...370+ yards!!!
Hey! You are talking about HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL in TEXAS. The guy is lucky he was not tarred and feathered AFTER the town's folk poked holes in his car's tires and kicked his dog.
Coach Cartwright of the Boyd Yellowjackets is a pretty good defensive coach, although he has shifted his focus to offense in the last few years. Before anyone jumps on me, I know he is not technically the DC, but he really calls most of the defensive schemes during the games, as well as setting the defensive game plan during the week and making the adjustments at halftime. And he is a nice enough guy he would probably buy you a Starbuck's coffee!
Most people do not know Cartwright is in the top 20 in all time wins in Texas!
This has nothing to do with football, but it is a pet peeve of mine when someone uses "...wait for it..." in their writing in a weak attempt to appear clever (see Anon 11:30 am). Any journalist that does it is a hack. A blogger that does it is something less than that.
11:30...ever heard the expression apples to apples. You just compared one game to a career avg. I'm sure if you check Chris Jones' career at Decatur, his defenses have averaged far fewer than 400 yards per game.
Goober, you need to think before you speak. I'm sure you are some armchair QB/DC that played high school ball and thinks you know a little about football. Get in the business, and find out about how respected some of the coaches in Wise County are amongst their peers.
I must be a masochist, because I continue to read these blogs, even though they anger me with the stupid things people say.
Coach Burt had a pretty good tenure at Marcus HS in Flower Mound where he was the Defensive Coordinator. Got him a state championship with the Marauders back in '98, too. He'll be fine in Dumas.

I am sure Dumas had the same talent pool of coaches applying for the position as Southlake Carroll has had!

BEST COACH IN WISE COUNTY! GOD BLESS HIM FOR PRESSING FORWARD
Just when you start censoring comments you write a head line about your sexual feelings for the man? Hypocrite.
decatur is a 3a school and they have several that platoon too, and the eagles know how to play defense. some evern play three positions.
try another excuse. maybe burt will take henson with him an offensive coordinator
Why are you always bringing up "little hard ons"?

In a perfect world we would make a trade with Dumas and send Henson instead of Burt????
He should move on before Henson ruins his career as a high school coach. It is awful taht Henson is even still in Bridgeport.
nope , i dont think there is another coach that could have won all those games with what little talent b=port has had.
they were 2-8 this year --- what do you mean "won all those games"
hahahahahaha
bridgeport puts the D in dumb, not defense
