Football Gods

As I sit here after watching a very, very good AFC Championship game between Indianapolis and New England, I had to stop down with these post-game, nationally televised words of winning Colts coach Tony Dungy: "But I just have to thank the Lord. He did it in such a way that nobody would believe it. And we've got to to give the Lord a lot of credit for giving us the strength to do it." If the Lord is concerned about an NFL game, we've all got problems. (And I'd be even more concerned if He controlled the "way" the win occurred.) But it did remind me of a pre-game prayer led by a coach when I was a spare varsity player at Bridgeport. It began, "Dear Lord, we need a win. And we need a win bad." And I am not making that up.

And what was the other coach asking of the Lord? How does he choose between competing requests? Does he influence some refs’ calls? Does Vegas have any input into the equation?

Oh, Barry, everyone knows that "On the 8th day God created the Dallas Cowboys", (or at least I had a t-shirt that said that when I was a teenager)...of course he's concerned with football games:)

I think I heard the same prayer in both huddles before the Boyd v Paradise boys basketball game a couple of weeks ago. It went into overtime, by the way.

Lovie Smith and Jim Irsay also thanked God. What classless idiots.

If you understood God and what He has done for you, you would and should be thankful also

I understand why some people and other faiths just hate Christians. Most are overbearing and they take any chance possible to throw God out in a sentence. I wasn't watching the football game to make sure God made a play. I have a side of my family that are holy rollers and I will not go out there b/c they are so damn judgemental and throw religion in your face all day.

What they would find out if they actually cared is that I do believe in God but I choose to believe my own way.
