Cowboys / Redskins

Dallas and Washington play Monday and I hear all this talk this week of it being a "big rivalry". You know, it was when I was a kid but I don't think so anymore.

I wonder what happened?

Tom Landry and George Allen left. That changed everything. While many still pine for the days of Landry, I think he was just an extraordinary man and there won't be many like him to follow. The dynamics of pro football has changed and with it, many of the rivalries have gone by the wayside. Neither coaches nor players stick around very long these days and that changes the feeling about the game.

I agree that the rivalry isn't the same that it was back in the good ol' days. In fact, I rather thought that Dallas-san Francisco replaced that in the early 90s. However, when it comes time, there's nothing better than to get a win over those stupid ol' Fedskins (Fed Ex Field...get it? lol)

Can't be Marquette "Warriors" or North Dakota "Fighting Sioux" or any other name that might offend...yet in Washington D.C. of all places we have the REDSKINS? Is that not as equivalent in offensiveness as would be the "Houston Honkies", "Carolina Coloreds" or "San Francisco Slant Eyes"?
