It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

A Collin County case made national news

  • Big night for Wise County baseball.

  • Update regarding the Decatur City Council voting on whether to have its police department enter into a 287(g) agreement with ICE.  (The meeting is June 8, 2026 at 6:00 PM).  If anyone tells you it's just about "training", that is simply not true.  This is a vote to execute the "Task Force Model" with ICE who says:

    • By my review of the spreadsheet on ICE's own website about 287(g) agreements, of the approximately 800 city police departments in existence in Texas, only 78 of them have entered into the Task Force Model.
    • Effective local policing takes years, if not decades, of trust-building with the community. It's a shame to throw all of that away.
  • My initial reaction to the first day of testimony in the Frisco Stabbing Trial: It doesn't look good so far for the defendant.

  • Last weekend a guy took control of a Dallas police car.  The video of it has now been released, and it is absolutely wild.

  • Trump quick hits:
    • This is a real picture from yesterday.

    • Before he fell asleep, he brought out that silly graphic again.

    • The corruption never stops.

    • If you think he's going to accept the results in November if the elections don't go his way, you’re not paying attention.  It's over.

  • The Business Second: In DFW . . .

  • I joked the other day that Lee Greenwood needed to be on stand-by if any other musician drops out. Well, it's happening!
  • Legal nerdy stuff: A felony DWI conviction arising out of Bridgeport was affirmed by the Fort Worth Court of Appeals yesterday, but there was one small win for the defendant: A person cannot be ordered to reimburse the county for court-appointed attorneys fees if, once he has been declared indigent,  there is no evidence that the indigency status has changed.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 6 years and 337 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

And. long before social media, a master showman.

  • The most interesting about this yesterday was getting to see the helicopter shots of the facility.

  • Well, this won't help things.

  • Is the City of Decatur going all MAGA on us? On the city council's agenda for Monday is a provision to voluntarily enter into a 287(g) Task Force agreement with ICE.  Why take on the expense and liability?  Texas law, through 2023's Senate Bill 4 which is in full force and effect, already gives local law enforcement all the power they need. So why is the city council being asked to force its PD to cozy up with ICE other than for performative MAGA chest thumping? Let the local police be the local police.

  • In a carry-on? (Although that fuse is longer than one that would have been used by Wile E. Coyote back in the day.)

  • A case of New World screwworm was confirmed in a 3-week-old calf in La Pryor, Texas.
  • Dateline Lubbock.  This sounds very similar to the Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy.

  • The long time hotel bear the Rangers ballpark and Six Flags next to I-30 is about to be blown up.

  • No way.

  • Trump quote of the day:

    • And he pulled out a visual aid yesterday to prove a very dumb and meaningless point.

  • Hunter Biden comes out swinging on social media.

  • Let's have everyone buy $10+ water instead.

  • Messenger: Above the Fold

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

In defense of CNN, that was a question someone actually asked then-candidate Trump.in a press conference.

  • A brief thunderstorm actually shut down Highway 183 to the south of DFW airport yesterday afternoon. And it was during rush hour.

  • Missiles and drones were exchanged late yesterday during the "cease fire" with Iran.  The bottom photo is of Kuwait's international airport.

  • "Tiffany Doolan, who had worked for Wylie ISD for 19 years, notified the district of her resignation on May 26. In a statement, the district said Doolan had been a victim of targeted online attacks and public hostility." Islamophobia seems to be an all-time high.

  • If those numbers are correct, that's a lot of drugs.

  • On the "shadow docket" last night, the Supreme Court continued to take us back to the Jim Crow era. Now Alabama just has one predominantly black congressional district.

  • CBS will become Fox News when all is said and done.

  • We are supposed to just take their word for it?

    • But . . .

  • The town of Trinidad seems to be a hotbed of small time petty politics.
  • Good grief -- look at that photo.

  • I mentioned this story yesterday, but I had no idea that he had been held in jail without bond for three years before his trial.

  • You go, girl “Before I leave the stage, I have one last thing to say. Every single person here has a voice; we have the privilege to use it when millions around the world are struggling and suffering to be heard. Whether it’s the millions suffering in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Afghanistan and so many other countries around the world, or families being torn apart by ICE." Video. (The New York Post headline is, as always, a little over the top.)

  • The Business Second™. Meet the Oligarchs.

  • Fun Ranger fact:
  • The prediction market Kalshi has Texas Tech a slight favorite over Texas in the softball championship.
