Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Family court judge in Tarrant County arrested for DWI.
  • I heard a rumor about the Wise County Domestic Abuse Task Force is in a little upheaval over a pedicure. Or the payment for a pedicure(s).
  • The State of the Union is tonight. Beat. Ing. (And I don't care who is in office.)
  • Viral video of day yesterday: Church singer.
  • Mrs. LL has come to the realization that the Oldest Girl In The House will be in high school next year. If I could just sit back and watch, I bet this would be entertaining. Instead, based upon countless advice, I'm building a bunker.
  • The Evil Empire extended Mack Brown's contract by five years yesterday now making it a nine year deal. ($5.2 million per year.)
  • Dirk Nowitzki ($19 million a year) is going to sit four games so he can get in shape? Talk about climbing Everest with no real desire to go back again.
  • Mitt Romney ($45 million over the last two years) said last night in the debate that the key to illegal immigration is "self-deportation."  That's not the way to cuddle up the The Right.
  • Oscar nominations announced this morning. Best Picture: "The Artist," "War Horse,"  "Moneyball," "The Descendants," "The Tree of Life," "Midnight in Paris," "The Help," "Hugo" and "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." I've seen none of them.
  • Our Wise County Solicitation of Capital Murder Lady took a deal for 21 years yesterday. I noticed the Update said she'd have to serve at least half her term.  (For you legal gurus out there: Does criminal solicitation under 15.03 of a 3g offense invoke the maximum parole law? Edit: I know there was a case that ruled on parole eligibility when a person is convicted of an attempt to commit a 3g offense, but 15.03 seems like a stand alone offense. )
  • And the 70 year old dope guy who was convicted last year week got a 30 year sentence. (The Update says he'll become eligible parole after serving 1/4 of his sentence. That's wrong, but it's a mistake I see from lots of people. )
  • And a sad contrast in the death notices in the Update: A 101 year old and a 9 month old.
  • Why hasn't that price of natural gas (see chart on front page below) not hurt Devon?

The price of natural Gas has not hurt Devon but is about to, becuase years ago when gas was above 10$ some very smart people sold contracts for 6-8$, those contracts have been expiring with more and more every day. So even though its has been below 4$ for a while customers are still paying 6-8, its the reverse of what Southwest airlines did buying fuel at a higher rate to ensure they could still make a profit over the long run.

21 million income last year. Tax rate of 13.9% 100 million given to his children......no gift tax.

All legal!!!!!!!

Yet I pay 30.5 on mine, have to stagger gifts to my children to avoid gift tax.

Most unvelievable of all....with a staight face, Romeny proposes doing away with the capital gains tax entirely.......thus making his effective rate 0.

Wise County Domestic Violence Task Force= Tax dollars wasted!! The shelter is more like a homeless shelter. They take in anyone to meet #'s for grants that they receive.

One more thing!

Those who complain about a tax code written for the 1% by the 1% are acused of invy.

on the church singer...

a joyful noise? I think even God would draw the line.

How anyone can begrudge anyone else for being successful is the epitomy of class envy. If you don't like paying the taxes that you do, then go out and change your earning structure. It is available to all of us. Hard work and perserveriance will pay off. But you would rather have it taken from someone else and given to you. Typical of liberals.

Solicitation of capital murder is NOT a 3g flat time offense. And the drug guy was convicted last WEEK, not last YEAR.

Bacon, your nuts. That's a 10.2 on the trashy good scale. And she knows how to pose.

Take a closer look at the Eagle Ford Shale area if you think the energy companies like Chesapeake are hurting.

Hotel parking lots down here are filled with their trucks.

Hotels like Hampton Inn, La Quinta, and that type are being built to house even more energy workers. I heard a rumor that Chevron has reserved an entire hotel for a full year and the hotel has yet to finished or opened.

"Invy. Perserveriance. Epitomy." It's snowing typos like a mother effer this morning.

I suppose I could change my earnings structure by getting an MBA but I like what I do for a living and don't want to take on the debt load to get any stupider than I already am.

I'd like to see the marginal tax rate lowered while closing loopholes in the tax code. Good luck fighting off the K Street Vultures while trying to do that.
Then we wouldn't be beaten by political hacks "triple-dog" daring each other to release their tax returns.

Devon has not been hurt because they are run extremely well and already have minerials in place. Therefore they didn't have to go out and pay real high prices to secure leases. See Chesapeake's DFW Airport project that has been bailed out by China.

Also the Eagleford Shale is in the same boat and many predict it is not a sustainable play do to the lack of infrastructure, water, and high prices they paid for the leases. It is pretty hard to negotiate with the likes of the Bass Brothers, Brisco's and people who have the money to own 10,000 to 15,0000 plus acre ranches.

Church singer. Awful. It's all about HIM. Check out some of the church "praise bands" around. Horrible music. And some of that is about night club wannabees.

I like the self deportation strategy. We should expand it to self ticket writing for speeding, self arrest for drug possesion, self tire blowouts for car chases, and self execution for murder. I could go on but I have "Searching for a City" stuck in my head.

I am very sure the church singer was a joke, so the applause was probably canned. How disrespectful of our Lord. He is probably the janitor of the church.

Capital gains taxes are usually on money that has already been taxed at least once. How does paying another tax help anybody? That is like taxing your money when you earn it, then again when you save it and then again when you spend it. Oh yea, that is how it is done now.

Mr. Mike Honcho said...

So if its all legal, what the gripe?

Romeny is rich. He earned it all legally and now is profiting from investments. Isn't that what a lot of people are shooting for? Whats the problem? Because he uses the tax system to his advantage?

Okay, fine. Show me the same anger against those who pay zero income tax.

So tired of hearing about hate on the rich. I am not, but I sure want to be one day.

8:47 Stager gifts to your children? My goodness you sure give a lot to them, how fortunate. You may gift up to $11000.00/yr. to anyone you chose, gift tax free.
So like I said, you must shower them with a lotta do rey me.

Going to answer my own questions. Yes, stupider and stupidest are correctly spelled. But proper english would be more stupid and most stupid. Binged it.

Where is the rage from all you liberal weenies on why Obammy killed the Keystone Pipeline? It was to reward Buffett by transporting the crude from Canada by trains that Buffett owns. Now there is some crony capitalism right there in front of your face. And you are bitching about Romney EARNING 21 million dollars. How about your boy Slick Willie given 76 million in 2010? I'll bet he didn't give over 10 per cent to the church.

8:47 - "Yet I pay 30.5 on mine"
That is probably not true. It looks like you are comparing apples to oranges. I'm not an accountant, but I'm guessing you are comparing Romney's EFFECTIVE tax rate to your NOMINAL tax rate. I bet your effective rate is a fraction of 30.5%. In this comment, I am not defending the tax code, or anything Romney. Just pointing out what appears to be an invalid comparison. Also, I don't understand why the IRS gifting provisions would be different for him and for you, or for, me, for that matter. I'm not aware of any sliding scale applied to gifting. I do not understand criticizing anyone who follows the tax code in filing their returns and payment of tax. If your nominal tax rate is 30.5%, then your income is "ordinary". So, you trade your labor for a salary, "Quid pro Quo". If you don't labor, your are owed no salary; if you receive no salary, then you are not obligated to give your labor. I will defend the concept that if you accumulate $, then risk losing it for a hoped-for gain, a lower tax rate is appropriate. My opinion is that both the cap gain tax and ordinary income tax rates are too high. Doing the math, based on your numbers for Romney of $21M X 13.9%= $2,919,000. Regardless of how much someone earns, that amount goes beyond what I believe an individual should be made an indentured servant to pay to cover those that are not disabled and of which nothing is expected in return. Absurd, in fact!

2:01, wrong case. That chick who was married to the lawyer got a citizen's good conduct award. HAHAHA ... I tickle myself. This one was the trailer trash who tried to have her biker husband killed then cried on TV when she admitted it.

Great responses from other commenters to the criticism of Romney's income and the taxes he paid. (1:22 in particular. Nicely done.) Honcho hit the nail on the head. The implications are all that Romney somehow did something shady, when in reality he fulfilled his legal and ethical responsibilities. (Obama's Treasury Secretary, on the other hand, did not -- until he got word that he was about to head up the department whose rules he flouted.)

Wordkyle - your continuous adoration of the Republican party is ok, but leave your idiotic comparisons to our President out.

Why do you do that on a regular basis?

Anonymous said...

All these "rich folk" haters on here sure don't mind working for rich companies, selling things to rich folks, giving money to rich folks by buying tickets to ball games, going to movies, and buying products made by rich folks' companies, or borrowing money from rich folks, or having their kids accept scholarships endowed by rich folks...etc. etc. You'd be in a real pickle if all the hated rich people took their toys and went home.

If you tax the "rich" or corporations more, then more jobs will leave.

There are plenty of countries that would love the capital, and the jobs that come from the ideas of creative people.

Envy kills.

wordkyle said...

506 - A swing and a miss, bubeleh. My attitude toward the Republican party is well documented in these pages. You can look it up. (Oh, okay, here's a headstart.)

As for mentioning Obama's track record so often, here's an article you might learn something from. It seems that biologically, Conservatives tend to confront unpleasantness (such as Obama's track record) head on, while Liberals tend to look away from negative stimuli (such as Obama's track record.) So if you're an Obama supporter, you can't help ignoring his sordid past, his lack of accomplishment, and his abysmal handling of the office of President.

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle has opinions and somehow believes his are the only "right" ones. Go ahead and try to criticize everything Obama has attempted. We are slowly digging out of the hole created during the Bush administration. Then everything Obama proposes, the Republicans oppose because if it's successful, Obama might get some credit (recall Mitch McConnell said that his No. 1 priority was to make sure Obama was a one-term president - not that the country actually succeed in economic recovery). America is NOT poorly perceived around the world, our perception is improving from the damage it suffered under Bush. Obama assisted in the overthrow of dictators in Tunisia, Egypt & Libya - without the loss of one American life. And by the way, America produced more oil during Obama's 3 years than during Bush's last 3 years.
The record is clear, our economy is recovering, we've a long way to go but it's time the Republicans got on board and help rather than obstruct.

1:42 is an ass. I am a Union member and worked on the railroad. I didn't ride any easy job, in fact, I doubt this guy would cut it, and get killed.

wordkyle said...

849 - Let's look at your complaints. First you gripe because I hold an opinion that I believe to be right. Not sure where you got the "only" part of that, feel free to elucidate.

- "slowly digging out of the hole..." Very slowly, if at all. Nearly half a million Americans quit looking for work, removing them from the unemployment stats. Even so, unemployment is 10% higher now than when Obama took office. This, despite the assurances that the trillion dollar stimulus would keep it under 8%.
- Investors (including retirement accounts) in GM and Chrysler saw the Obama administration take away their money and give it to the autoworkers unions.
- Obama gave half a trillion dollars of taxpayer money to a company that was known to be in trouble. When bankruptcy became too obvious to ignore, the Obama administration rewrote the contract so that an Obama fundraiser got his money before taxpayers saw a dime.
- The true cost of Obamacare keeps going up, and the benefits promised by Democrats keep disappearing in the harsh light of day. (Nancy Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what's in it." We still don't know everything, and what we do know is bad news.)
- By "international perception" do you mean influence and leadership? Or the sort of perception that gave Obama the Nobel Peace Prize after ten days on the job?
