Bridgeport Sixth Grade Basketball Game Today

One of the coaches got kicked out then "Cops called to restore order" per an email I just received. Sounds like a scene is breaking out. Stuff going on outside. People demanding money back.

Developing . . .

6th grade?

Anonymous said...

Why are 6th graders playing basketball?
Why do we allow basketball and soccer to be played at all?
If I was forced to watch a basketball game I would demand my money back as well.
Football and baseball only!!
Girls can play cheerleader or watch from the stands.

So is henson going to denton, or what?

Anonymous said...

Who said it was a Bport coach??? This just took place in Bport.

Anonymous said...

The guy thought he could become a professional coach with a win. Too bad everyone lost on this one!

Some people have CHARACTER

Some people are CHARACTERS

Anonymous said...

Were there any niggers involved?

Anonymous said...

I can promise you this...
No coach associated with bisd was coaching 6th grade aged basketball on a Saturday.
No bisd coach would want to. They are all at home spending valuable time with their family. Which doesn't happen very often.

Anonymous said...

Where was the coach from? Was it school ball game or youth association? What teams were playing?

Anonymous said...

I hope Henson does leave. He is not good enough to ever win the big one.Big deal he gets to the play offs. When the games on the line he chokes.TYA henson.

Anonymous said...

And we wonder why our kids have no respect for gamesmanship or each other. The parents act like fools.

Anonymous said...

Were there any niggers, Messikins, drugs or alcohol involved?

Anonymous said...

Oh, I guess that question was kind of redundant.

Anonymous said...

It was Springtown and the coach was cussing on the court and would not stop...the parents were demanding their money back because they didn't to play a whole game. The ladies that were running the gate/concession were a class act, way to go!

Anonymous said...

Springtown gets credit for this one boys.

Anonymous said...

Dude it was a Springtown lady coach that got two technicals and that made her have to forfeit. She was psycho. Then in the other gym just after her episode and while she was being talked to by the cops, another springtown coach got ejected. And then their parents went off on teenagers etc.
Way ti show your kids how to act people.

Those who are not closely associated with bridgeport varsity football simply can't understand what Danny henson does with his staff and athletes.
He has the ability to take sub-par athletes and win games that shouldn't be won by that caliber athlete. The spread "evens the odds" so to speak.
Athletes who can't necessarily out-run a defender, continuously will be productive because of the system. To say "coach henson can't win the big one" is rediculous......they never should have been in the play-offs in the first place. But they are. Year. After. Year.
And one other thing. If you have s beef with henson its because your son didn't get the playing time you thought your son should get.
Well let this sink in. His kids are already sub-par. (Excluding the obvious exceptions)
Yet he chose to give time to someone who was better than your kid.
Now go ahead and bash him.
I'm sure your son has already provided plenty of entertainment for the staff over in b-port.

Anonymous said...

Is it still "developing"?

That ol gym still looks good.

Anonymous said...

Oh forgot to say it is youth association not middle school sports games.

Anonymous said...

Thank God that Decatur youth sports coaches don't act like this!!!

We found out at a middle school basketball tournament in Bport that if your not from the approved areas of Wise County then the officials tend to lean towards the hillbilly side. A foul for Decatur or Bridgeport is not the same as a foul for Northwest. The country ass politics around here is F'ed up. Good luck with your GED educations and your meth labs rednecks our kids b goin to college.

I attend little league games with my grandchildren (2nd grade) and the parents are unbelievable sometimes. Yelling at their kids from the stands, griping at their kids during halftime so the kids can't listen to the coach. My grandkids team parents had to sign a form stating that they would not interfere during games or practice. Seems like a lot of other parents should sign the same agreement.

Pitiful parents.

It was Springtown. Springtown should have not been allowed back in the Wise County league to begin with. When I was president of the 5th and 6th grade league (I was a commissioner for 10 years), we kicked them out of the league because of problems with their coaches and fans. Every year some towns might have a problem coach or fans but Springtown, year in and year out, was always a problem across the board.

The straw that broke the camel's back the year we kicked them out, was we had 4 tournaments (5th and 6th boys and girls) at the end of the season. We had to call the cops at all 4 tournaments to restore order due to the Springtown people. When I polled the other 6 town commissioners, it was unanimous to ban them. They stayed banned until a couple of years ago. I see it hasn't changed. Springtown isn't even technically eligible to be in the WISE COUNTY league.

To further set the record straight, some of the nicest people I know are from Springtown.

Anonymous said...

Every town across the country has its own village idiots. No town should be judged by the actions of a few. The problem is that we do not have nearly enough parents with integrity and moral values willing to volunteer the time to make sure our kids our taught correctly. So you get what you get, someone that's way too competitive to be coaching youth sports. We can't even get enough parents to help with their kids school work....but they want to blame the school when their kid fails.

Anonymous said...

This must be Springtown Lions Club ball y'all are talking about.. My kids played there for several years and my husband coached until we got so embarrassed by the way some of the other coaches and parents acted. You never knew when one of them might bust out with a long string of cuss words. Can't believe it is still an organization. Sad for our kids that adults can't actually act their age.

Anonymous said...

That Springtown coach should be fired!

Anonymous said...

I love that all of the Bridgeport Lord Henson defenders can't spell. It really does make my day.

Anonymous said...

Springtown. I went there once and didn't leave anything thing there so I don't have any reason to go back, unless I decide to take up meth.

Anonymous said...

Fired from what?

Yay! The "lord henson" witch is back.
Hey, lady. If there is a God in heaven you will tell us your kids name.....come on. Disclose your family name.

I'll bet when I hear your name it will all make sense.

Anonymous said...

@ 4:12 You really should have put a comma after (spell).

Just say'in

While some coaches act like jerks, there are others who go out of their way to help the kids. My son plays on a 2nd grade team in B'port. He is on a team with some talented kids. This is his first year to play and is by far the weaker player on the team. At Saturday's game, Coach Horton went out of his way to make sure my son was given several attempts to score and he finally did. This Coach has taught my child so much this season and even more taught him teamwork & sportsmanship. My child was so proud of himself and his team. I am so thankful that my child is involved in BYA sports. #5's MOM @11:20, I think that your comment shows your character. I hope that you are not a coach.

If 4:12 had placed a comma after "spell" it would have created a comma splice. Did you intend to suggest a semicolon?

"Why do we allow basketball and soccer to be played at all?

I know this statement was made to stir up shit and doesn't deserve a responsebut......Like someone said - every town has a town idiot. In your case - the word idiot is an understatement.

Anonymous said...

If Henson could win the BIG GAME, he would have already accomplished that. Check mark for him on not getting that. Drug test all of the kids on the team and see the uppity ups will probably fail it.

Anonymous said...

We don't have any village idiots in Decatur

All ours have moved outta town

Anonymous said...

4:12 it is correct

Anonymous said...

Is this all we have to forward to on Monday? Get busy and get us some new stuff or somethin.

Anonymous said...

I am a high school parent and I agree with 9:59. It seems that certain kids get the drug test repeatedly and the ones that need if never get tested. Why is that?

Anonymous said...

To 8:50:
Thank God that Decatur youth sports coaches don't act like this!!!

Really? Are you serious!!!! You must not watch youth softball. If I recall, a Decatur rec. coach (not all Decatur coaches, just this one)got kicked out of a game for cussing and trying to start a fight. Then refused to leave the grounds, and tried to start another fight in the parking lot. Every town has a bad apple that ruins it for everyone else. Surely, he was a coach at Decatur ISD, just a volunteer. So, dont act like decatur doesn't.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how many of these parents and people who comment are as concerned about their children's grades and academic prowess. In a few years, none of this actually matters. Their grades do....more time needs to center itself around what truly matters in post high school success.

Anonymous said...

Edit to my 9:05 comment:

I meant to say surely he was NOT a coach at Decatur ISD. I apologize if that upset anyone. It was not my intention to criticize Decatur ISD coaches.

Anonymous said...

You lie. She wasnt cussing on the court. It was a parent that was cussing.

Anonymous said...

I personally worked to get Springtown back in and that was in 2006. Until last year I was the Town contact for the league. While involved Chico called the cops on Bridgeport parents, cops were called on Boyd parents at Forestburg, Bridgeport call cops on paradise parents. So it isn’t Just Springtown. Its parents who attend and parents who coach who get caught up in the heat of the moment because of a call they don’t like. Referring doesn’t get better for the most part it gets worse in middle school all the way to JV. (I have seen it) As for kicking Springtown out because of a few foolish parents who are gone in a year or two, that’s not fair to the 125 boys and girls who participate and have the opportunity to play every year. PUNISH THE PARENTS OR COACH, even their kid, not an entire community and all the kids, which is foolish thinking to do. As for Springtown the township is located in Parker but 65% of the students and taxpayers live in Wise County and Springtown also helped form the Wise County League back in the early 80's. Even went as far as building the only gym that was not owned by a school but by and for a Youth association. As for the Lions Club in General it is the same, it is based with GREAT volunteers who spend extreme amounts of time donating to the youth. It is again Volunteers, and you do again get your idiots but don’t let those few morons label all the GREAT people involved, that is a horrible thing to do. Competition is meant to bring out the best in our kids and that should be taught, it is sad it seems to bring out the worst in parents. But it’s not Springtown parents, its parents in all communities. Don’t judge Springtown or Bridgeport or black or white or Mexican or Indian or Texan or Americans or Jew or so on and so on and so on. Punish the persons not the people. Rick Dauenhauer rick@naecontracting.com

How about the facts?
As a competitor and coach, referee, and judge of amateur and professional sporting events, and a parent, I would like to present a (hopefully!) un-biased account.

I admit that as a referee myself, I have made some mistakes. The reason I was popular was that I would admit to the crowd "Oops! My bad, I am sorry!". It is far easier to be an arm-chair loudmouth than actually get out on the floor and do it.

Anyway, to be quite honest, the referee did make some bad calls. They all do. Both ways. However, when a player from Paradise throws the ball onto the court and retrieves it himself, that is a penalty, regardless of what team you are from. The referee seemed to not notice this, and the Springtown coach yelled out "Hey, isn't that a penalty?" (NOTE: the yelling referred to for both parties was necessary to hear above the game/crowd ruckus)
The referee, maybe tired, maybe pissed, yelled to her to get back to the bench. She again yelled "ISN'T THAT A PENALTY??"
The referee then issued a Technical Foul. The coach sat down, and said "Well, that is my first Technical Foul".
The referee, in a moment of ego or anger, immediately issued a SECOND TECHNICAL FOUL.
Now, basketball rules are NOT my area of expertise, but really, WTF????
He then called the game off, and told players to leave the court.

Imagine the surprise of the fans, the coaches, and THE PLAYERS.

A grandmother in the stands than spoke up and said "We better get our money back" (it was early in the 2nd quarter...)

What followed is somewhat general, as I decided to avoid the situation and relieve my strained bladder...but, here goes:
The Springtown coach was insisiting that the Commissioner be contacted, as there was uncertainty as to the referee calling the game off. The coach insisted that she be removed, but DON'T PUNISH THE BOYS!!!!
Tempers flared, words were exchanged, the Police were called (they were told it was a "riot" or "protest" of parents outside) as the parents decided to go outside and try to re-group with their children. With about 25 years of law enforcement, teaching Criminal Justice students, and teaching law to private security contractors, I can assure you, this was no riot or protest.

Were parents pissed? Absolutely.
Were the event organizers and associates flexing their proverbial authority a bit unprofessionally? Absolutely.

When the Police showed up, a bit taken aback as their was one or two parents outside, ONE OF THEM BEING THE SPRINGTOWN COACH, they found no "riot" or "protest".

Later, we learned that the other Springtown coach was given THREE Technical Fouls, and then the tournament organizer walked in and cancelled their game because of the fouls.
Allegedly the referee in that instance told the other Springtown coach: (and this is somewhat paraphrased, except for the word "shi*) "I'm not taking your shi* today, you get a Technical", when a call was challenged.

Look, no one is perfect. Refs make bad calls, coaches make bad statements, parents get excited and yell when maybe they shouldn't, but really folks.... Is life in Bridgeport so dull that this is the biggest thing that happened over the weekend?

A Jerry Springer show has more drama.

Sorry to ramble, but this was really getting out of hand (the postings), and I hope to have given a reasonable summary of the events.

Point is..the kids were in 6th grade...
Only coach should have been ejected not the kids and their parents.
If you have a decent ref that doesn't pick sides and calls stuff right, everybody would be set.
It's not like the parents and coaches are going to grab hands with the other team and sing kum-bi-ya. S

OK, I'm not going to spend the time to read all of this mess here. I just wanted to say that my son is on a Springtown team that the Bridgeport Ref's chose to expell. We came there the week before & there was very poor calls made but I have no proof of that so I will not go into that week, but on 1/28 the boys were just robbed, they played for 15 minutes, their coach asked a question(and she was ignored then told to sit down & shut her mouth), after that she asked one more question & the ref kicked the team out. By the rules she was the only one allowed to address the game officials.

But don't take my word for it see for yourself : http://youtu.be/wiicHv1sLqY

Be sure to listen close to the ref & coach

Anonymous said...

Video just posted. Decide for yourself!

Anonymous said...

Another point Is if you don't know the story and you weren't there then keep out of it. The ref was completely out of line! He had an attitude from the get go. The coach was just asking it to be fair for the boys! Just like any other coach would do! Obviously Bridgeport needs to call in ref's that know the game not some old man that can't take criticism knowing dang well that is part of being a ref. That ref should of been the one to be kicked out! He was talking to the players as if he was their coach... I Always wonder where Bridgeport got their mascot from " bulls" all makes sence now it's because Bridgeport is Bull sh** !!!!!

Mr. Mike Honcho said...

Based on that video I would have tossed her and found a new coach. That yelling is ridiculous.

Besides, Springtown can go play in another league, right? If Bridgeport is sooooooo bad then go play in another league. Why would you "fight" to get back in after being booted out if it is such a bad league.

Anonymous said...

It makes logistical sense for Springtown to play in the Wise County league. I coached girls in this league. I had problems with those same refs. The coach is in her right to question a call. Especially a bad one. The ref was 100% wrong to call off the game. You don't end a game because a coach has 2 technicals. You eject the coach, but allow the game to go on.
As far as the person on here bashing the Springtown Lion's Club, you need to remember that it is a volunteer organization. If you don't like something about it, then get involved and make a difference yourself. If you're not willing to step up and help, then quit complaining about those that are. The Lion's Club is always looking for good people to help with the kids

SAD PARENT said...

Ihave three sons who all played for the lions club. The people who work in this organization are great. Even though they may have a few bad apples I have not ran into them. My boys have been coached by several different coaches, all of them men I might add. This coach that you are bashing has coached my boys more than once. I have known her to be passionate about the game but even more so about the boys she has coached . She has given long hours to her teams, and unknown amounts of her own money when some child could not afford the jerseys or afford the team parties.I know this because she has helped my boys be able to play when i could not. You never hear this because she does not do it for personal praise. She coaches in a men's world. she has to be tough to play in the BOYS CLUB.I have attended many games through the years and have witnessed many male coaches act as loud or worse. They were from all different cities but I have never heard of one man being treated like she has by so many who know none of the facts. COULD IT BE THAT WE HAVE DIFFERENT STANDARDS FOR OUR FEMALE COACH?

Anonymous said...

I agree we should play in a league where the refs know the rules and aren't bias.

Mr. Mike Honcho said...

Sure 11:29pm, I get that she donates time and is honorable on all that. And that no one will ever see all that sacrifice she will make. And you're absolutely right. All that most will see is a lady screaming her a$$ off at a referee and getting tossed out of a game.

Being a good coach sometimes means putting a sock in it and not screaming like a banshee at a ref. You get terrible calls. It happens. Good coaches know how to deal with it.

Anonymous said...

There's a rule in the BYA that was added not that long ago, that is if a coach or the team as one gets 2 technicals the came is a forfeit. The ref might have had an attitude, but then again if you played the first quarter, and listened to the coach grip about everything that she did not know the rules to, you might get frustrated as well.
She was constantly yelling after the opposing team would score screaming stop the clock, the clock doesn't stop after a made basket.
Another example, she was screaming she had a sub, there wasn't a dead ball to buzz the player in.
My point being, the coach hardly knew the rules.
After the game took place, the coach went outside and came in with bloody knuckles.
So that kinda tells you what type of anger issues the springtown coach.

Anonymous said...

Way to show them how to spell.

Anonymous said...

BYA rules don't apply to Wise County games. The facility being utilized was in Bridgeport, but this was a Wise County League game. The BYA is a participant in that league, as are the other organizations. Regardless of venue, the Wise County rules trump whatever the local organization has in their by-laws. Also, during all Wise County games, there is to be a copy of the Wise County rules posted at the scorer's table. It is up to each host town to make sure the local refs are educated on these rules, not those of the host town. That ensures that the same rules are applied at each town the kids go to play in. Apparently, this isn't happening in Bridgeport.

Anonymous said...

Wise County Youth Basketball rules states that two technical fouls by one team (by coach, player, or fan) will result in a forfeiture of the game. Those are the rules. The Wise County Youth Basketball rules that are posted on their website for everyone to see.

Anonymous said...

Yep those are the rules. The rules are the rules are the rules. He probably gave her the back to back techs so he could run to the restroom. You could tell he wasn't happy he was probably constipated the poor ref.

Anonymous said...

They also state that the coach may address the game officials & ask a question. Posted for all to see as you said.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the coach may address the game official, but it should be done in a calm, positive manner, not yelling at the ref! Those of you condoning this coach's behaviour, I wonder how you would react if you were confronted the way she confronted the ref! And for those that say she had to yell to be heard, the play had stopped and the yelling was not necessary. She should have approached the ref in a calm manner, but from viewing her actions at previous games, calm and positive is not the way she goes about things. It is loud, argumentative and complaining. Take some responsibility and stop trying to excuse unnecessary behavior.

Anonymous said...

The ladies at the front have nothing to do with the youth association. Leave them alone beyatch.

Anonymous said...

You are right those hags didn't steal my money or anything beyatch.

Anonymous said...

I condone, I condone.

Anonymous said...

Well whoever said the coach was screaming to stop the clock and to put a sub in when the ball was not dead is as ignorant as the rest of you who think its OK to mistreat kids! I would assume you voted for Obama too. Problem with the clock running and the excitement about all that and yet another thing the ref did not notice was there were 6 players on the court, 6 not 5. Thus the screaming blah blah blah, the sub she was trying to put in played his first year and therefore she was just letting them know he was there. See you know it all people that have so much negative in your life have spent more than your fair share of time on here bashing someone for doing what was right for the boys. If the scenario had gone a little differently and when she said he threw the ball to himself, and the ref said my bad I did not see it, none of you would have anything to complain about Springtown! No one has mentioned the fat ass mom sitting the week before in the stands screaming over all the moms in both gyms, and guess what she was from Bridgeport!
