Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • Watching any of the NFL pregame shows is torture, but one of them yesterday included a badly prepared, taped and spliced interview with the "Etrade baby". Idiocracy?
  • After seeing former Cowboys kicker Billy Cundiff miss the game tying field goal for the Ravens yesterday, I said out loud: "Who would want to be a kicker?" Seriously. You think he had a good flight with the team back to Baltimore?
  • I mentioned a month or so ago that some people were writing that Joe Paterno would die soon. No question your spirit impacts your health.
  • After getting killed in South Carolina, I bet Mitt Romney goes on the attack against Newt in Florida. I also bet that will not serve him well. (And we'll get to find out tonight after yet another debate tonight.)
  • If you didn't catch President Obama sing a verse of an Al Green hit last week while at the Apollo Theater, you have to.  And if you can't smile about that, your hatred for the guy is blinding you.
  • There are currently 923 active drilling rigs in Texas. Six are in Wise County.
  • A 46 year old Sansom Park woman was found dead in her in-home tanning bed yesterday. I don't think that's what they meant by "tanning can kill you."
  • Over the weekend, Mrs.LL were in the presence of two guys arguing over who was a bigger baseball fan. She then called them out by asking who the new Rangers pitcher from Japan was. Neither knew it was Yu Darvish.
  • But she had a memory crutch because she had spent the day singing "Youuuuu!" from Crank That (Soulja Boy) that every local sports talk station has turned into a drop when Darvish was signed.
  • I've made reference to Colin Jones (Bridgeport/TCU/49ers) for years and the Messenger has ignored him.  Now they are going overboard with a the special teams player being the subject of a a front page story over the weekend, a tweet yesterday, and in the Update today.
  • Going back to 127 Hours that I saw last weekend, a scene that was really moving to me was when the family out hiking ran, without delay, to help the hiker upon seeing him in distress. I don't know what that choked me up so much.
  • Just glanced at Facebook post from a Wise County resident which said: "If you believe in the 2nd Amendment, and you are not afraid to show it, re-post this!!!"  Stop. Doing. This.
  • Bridgeport folks: There's a death announcement of Mack Adams, 50, in the Update

Yes, I did smile for 3 seconds when King Obamy sang. Then, the reality of the mess HE has caused came flying back. He has GOT to go!

Yes, the President is quite a showman.

That's not necessarily an insult, either, because all the recent Presidents have managed to be showmen.

Which might be Romney's problem, in the end. He reeks of John Kerry/Al Gore-style charisma.

I would love to hear Obammy sing more of Al Green!

You stated the woman was found "in" a tanning bed. She was actually found "on" her tanning bed.

Who is Mack Adams?

Obama sang what, about three seconds worth of that song? Quite the performance. I could have done that.
He comes off as incredibly self-conscious, measured, and stiff as a board. Perhaps the only thing Kerry or Gore needed to win was a dash of color

Sorry to hear about Mack. Old friend from way back. Prayers to his family and close friends.

Obammy is a better bowler than he is a singer.

The worst pregame taped interview was with Leslie Visser. That hag looks like Joan Rivers little sister with all of her plastic surgery.

OK, I give up----Who was Mack Adams?

Anon 7:42, that was Leslie Visser? I swore I was watching Mickey Roarke in drag.

Obama singing Al Green was amusing, no question. It's a good song. Now then...if you were to suppose that moment was politically motivated, what do you think its purpose was? To shore up his base, maybe?

+ Being a kicker in the NFL is one of the best jobs in professional football. You don't get paid as much as the superstars, but you're the only guy in sports that it's against the rules to even touch you.

I feel bad for Ray Lewis just like the family of the man he murdered.

I'll guarantee President Obama is the coolest president we've known. Love him or hate him..he's cool., and most of the haters really don't know why the hate him.....just get along sheep, get along

Mack lived 1 street over and 2 blocks down from me when I was a kid. Sad news.

You are an ass.

I bet mr. Obama does a lot of singing on his white house porch swing

I prefer common sense over cool. Cool or not, he hasn't a clue on steering a nation.

1246 - You're right, Obama is the coolest. Here's proof. (Obama's jeans are just the icing on his cool cake.)

12:58 - AGREED! Typical on here though... :/

I know exactly why I don't like him: GM bailout, Goldman Sachs Bailout, trillions of $$ in stimulus that did not work, Obama Care, Pipeline denial, 42,000 new laws, unelected Czars, ... Do I need to name more?

"+ Being a kicker in the NFL is one of the best jobs in professional football. You don't get paid as much as the superstars, but you're the only guy in sports that it's against the rules to even touch you."

Just because the rule says you can't be touched doesn't mean you don't take a hit on occasion. Just ask Dallas Cowboys' punter Matt McBriar about his broken foot from last season.

The best job in the NFL is 3rd team QB. You get paid pretty well and hardly ever play in a real game.

wordkyle said...

204 - Yeah, but don't you have to suit up and get hit in practice? While the kickers are off to one side, lazing around and occasionally kicking into a net? McBriar was a fluke; there's dozens of pro kickers walking around without broken feet.

Anonymous said...

Best job for a slacker like you. You sound like the kind of person who wants to get paid for doing nothing.

That is the biggest problem with this country, too many entitlements already.

Anonymous said...

1;51 Of course if W would have done any of that crap (which he helped cause) it would be ok, right? Get along sheep...get along

WK

"Yeah, but"? Really?

At season's end, 5 place kickers were listed on IR, including Dallas's own David Buehler and San Diego's Nate Kaeding who was hurt on the very first play of San Diego's first game of the regular season.

Professional QB's do not get hit in practice. They wear red jersey's and are strictly off limits to the defense.

how the heck can you "guarantee" somebody is the coolest?

Besides, he's not even the coolest Democratic president we've had. Consider JFK:
* war hero
* hot wife
* photogenic kids
* very imitatable accent
* good relationship with the press
* allegedly had some very adult fun-time activities with Marilyn Monroe

Obama's got two, maybe three, of those covered (and not the three coolest!)

Hey Sheep herder, You can only hang the bailout of Lehman Bros. on W. The rest of the train wreck is by your cool guy Obammy. Baaaah

wordkyle said...

Dear DF Lou - Okay, you win. Playing in the NFL, making hundreds of thousands of dollars while playing about 5 minutes a game, with rules in place making it illegal for other players to hit you -- that would be a totally sucky job.

The bailout that Bush passed was 750 million, the stimulis under Obama was also in the 750 million neighborhood.
One thing Obama has cooler than JFK, he didn't die at 46.

9:09 AND 10:41- Mack Adams "He was someone you would have been lucky to have known-Average Hometown guy that was a TRUE friend to many- " I'm not good with words/writing and there was alot more to him- He will be truely missed by many- Had too use this too much in my 40plus years- "Only the good die young" Im still in shock-My Condolences to his family

Thanks man...it's the only win we'll get all season since the 3 of us are a combined 1 for 1 passing this season. Kickers have it tough!!!

Double Fake David Carr, QB, NY Giants, no passes attempted in 2011
Double Fake Brian Hoyer, QB, NE Patriots, 1 pass attempt, 1 completion in 2011
Double Fake Ryan Mallett, NE Patriots, no passes attempted in 2011

Why does everyone on here automatically assume that if you dislike Obama, you must love "W". I disagree with much of his administration, too. I just want a government that will uphold the constitution and keep their noses out of things that are none of their business. Such as my business. Most people (47%) in this country succeed in spite of the government's "help". While the rest (53%) get by with the government's "help". I use the term "help" very loosley.
