Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • Two Cowboys coaches are suing the firms behind the design and construction of the Cowboys practice facility that collapsed last May. Their lawyer, famous PI lawyer Frank Branson, said "the jury might want to send a message to corporate America that you can't put profit over safety." Good grief, that's a tired old line.
  • Most of my friends don't understand why I'm so anti-lawsuit. I think it's just that I have a problem with anyone, whether it be the State in a criminal case, a Plaintiff in a civil case, or the man on the street pointing a finger and telling someone else they are a "bad person." I always want to see the sins of the guy pointing the finger first.
  • If you saw the Ranger's win over the Yankees last night (10-9), you were certain they were going to blow it. (In the 9th inning they gave up 4 runs and were looking at runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs.)
  • Ted Kennedy died last night. Will the haters show a little respect and not mention "Chappaquiddick" today? Not a chance.
  • We grew tired of the Swine Flu in a hurry. If we had heard news last Spring that ten TCU students had contracted the disease, we would have shut down all of North Texas.
  • Why are former Evil Empire players so weird?: Roy Williams, Vince Young, Cedric Benson, Ricky Williams? Edit: Add Colt McCoy to the list. He has a porn star mustache!
  • The tragedy in Bridgeport happened at the worst time for the Messenger which certainly had their Wednesday paper finalized and ready to be printed. But they scrambled and managed to get the news on today's front page.
  • Speaking of the tragedy, it helps confirm my belief that things simply "happen" on Earth and that everything is not pre-determined by God. Certainly God didn't decide to take that child home like that, did He?
  • And that event is certainly going to rock Bridgeport High School. And considering the death of Officer White earlier this year, hasn't Bridgeport had a horrific 2009?
  • KXAS allows you to "rate your emotions" in connection with news stories. (Sheesh.) The leaders for the Bridgeport story? 86% for "sad" and 14% for "angry."

Airplanes avoid landing in supercell storms. Golfers know to head in. People run for shelter well in advance. Things like lightning, thunder, darkening skies, our eyeballs, television help us know when bad weather is coming. The storm that hit the Cowboys facility was NO SURPRISE. It developed miles away and was very, very ominous and LOUD as it headed toward Irving. There were warnings. There are enough people in and around there, outside and inside the bubble, that someone should have thought to leave the big tent. At what point do we start using our human instincts instead of blaming others?

So very, very sad. I cannot begin to imagine the pain that girl's family is feeling this morning. Every thing that happens is predetermined and God obviously has a reason for things he does, even when it means taking our loved ones.
God bless the families of these two precious girls.

"Good grief, that's a tired old line....'
Lawyers ran out of good lines a long time ago.

Anonymous said...

God only does good stuff, not bad stuff, right Christians?

BG, I thought as a lawyer you would know that all lawsuits are not about being a "bad person", it is about people being accountable for what they do or neglect to do. Sorry, I forgot your job is to keep drinking drivers from being held accountable for what they do. Then again some lawsuits are about "bad people". I guess by your reasoning if I drive my car into another and injure that person permanently and they have "sinned" in the past they have no right to file a lawsuit against me.

Isn't it funny how the liberals want to let go of something from their team's past that they wouldn't dare let go of if it was Bush who died?

God didn't plan that girl's death yesterday. Things happen and there are other forces at work in the world in addition to God. I do believe he will do something good from a horrific situation but he didn't cause it or plan it.

As a parent of a Decatur athlete, I want to express how terribly sad we are for the tragedy in Bridgeport. News spread fast among the Decatur cross country team as well as in the Texas HS running community:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Denison family.

8:31 My God did not plan for the tragedy to happen to two innocent girls yesterday. Bad things just happen to good people, including accidents. How we handle it is up to us and God will help us through heart ache and loss of loved ones!

There is no way a loving God would have any part of this by planning it in advance. The lives were precious to him, their families and to their friends.

It is no comfort at all to say to anyone this was in God's plan.

Danny Boy said...

A) 8:35 has no common sense

B) If this was God's plan for that girl, does this not put ALL his plans into question?

Good luck to the families.

Why is the most newsworthy thing Ted Kennedy ever did off-limits now? He won the genetic lottery by being born a Kennedy, lived the typical Kennedy lifestyle full of drunkenness and debauchery, and by virtue of being a Kennedy in Massachusetts accrued all the percs that accompany being a career politician. His Kennedy name and money saved him from prison in 1969. I take no pleasure at the death of any person, and my sympathies go to those who will miss him. But there was certainly no sense of noblesse oblige in the Kennedy family, and the way Ted Kennedy chose to live his life caused suffering in the lives of other people. It is not inappropriate to mention his responsibility for a young woman's passing at the time of his own.

Wordkyle...you are nothing but a complete JERK! Pull your head out of your ass and realize, just once, that this world has been blessed by the Kennedy family and all they have fought for. They didn't fight for just democrats, they fought and devoted their lives to our great country...The Lord certainly didn't bless you with a heart, did He? Get over yourself...Move on to a different blog and make a lot of people happy.

Anonymous said...

God did not take that young girl! John 10:10. God is a good God!

Anonymous said...

Correct, Barry. Everything is NOT predetermined by God. People have actions, choices and decisions that affect many outcomes. At this time we don't know why the awning fell. If/when the building inspector finds a cause, then we might know more. If anyone is so inclined, read the Bible about God not being tempted with evil. If God causes evil, then why would you believe on him?

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle, but can't you forgive him and move on? There is not logic in the Rights hate for Ted. He had many Republican friends.

Anonymous said...

9:06, Can you name one thing that Teddy did that improved your life?

Anonymous said...

Odd day...I agree with Wordkyle and BG's logic is, well, void of logic. BG wants to dig up unrelated sins of folks who seek compensation for civil wrongs, but wants to protect the memory of an old drunk who killed someone.

Anonymous said...

"that this world has been blessed by the Kennedy family and all they have fought for. They didn't fight for just democrats, they fought and devoted their lives to our great country..."

Really? Oh come on- your some sort of new strain of troll right? Working with a sort of righteous sublety to yank peoples chains?

You can't really believe the things you said. Those are not rational, reasonable thoughts and NOBODY would really think that way. I mean Kennedy PR people wouldn't even have wet dreams of folks independently thinking like that.

Good one- you almost got me, ha ha.

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle can't you talk about the positive things about Ted, like "he was a good swimmer"?

wordkyle said...

906 & 914 - I may indeed be a jerk, but that point is irrelevant to how Ted Kennedy lived his life. Two other points: First, I am not the person to forgive Kennedy; those who knew and loved Mary Jo Kopechne are. (I guess everyone who ever suffered because of his legislation are as well, but that's another can of worms.) Second, I did not care enough about Kennedy to "hate" him. That word ascribes more emotion than I feel. I don't "hate" O.J. Simpson, either, but I'm pretty sure the two men have a lot in common.

mzchief said...

The fact Ted Kennedy was a U.S. Senator for longer than I have been alive, built a fiefdom in Washington, whored for special interests and prospered at the expense of Americans after avoiding honestly answering and paying for his part in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, there is no doubt, Hell is burning a wee bit hotter since Ted moved in.

wordkyle said...

Xan - No politician has ever done anything for anyone else. Politicians get other people to do things. The legislation Kennedy and other Liberal Democrats passed -- to which I assume you refer -- had (apparently) good intentions and disastrous consequences. The "poor and underprivileged" would have been better served by not making them dependent on government. Far better would have been to teach them how to fish.

Now that he is dead, will Obama redistribute the Kennedy wealth? Or is it like all other liberal lawyers, they want to redistribute everybody's money except their own. I would be curious how much tax the estate will have to pay. My guess is zero. Isn't that the game they play? Was he not flat broke under the IRS code when he died? He would not want any of the poor voters getting his money. Right, Barry.

Why did George W. Bush praise him for his many contributions to America?

And if we are looking for perfection in our elected officials, it just isn't there.

How is that bill working out for all the kids with skulls full of mush?

For you young folks, here is a little information on the drowning death of Mary Jo. Kennedy claimed that he was taking Mary Jo to the ferry but this was contradicted by the fact that he was not on the road that took him to the dock. He ran off the road into a creek.

Kennedy pulled himself from the upturned car, swam across the narrow creek and went to his hotel room without reporting the wreck with Mary Jo trapped in it.

The next morning fishermen found the sunken car and discovered the body of Mary Jo Kopechne still inside.

Evidence given at the inquest suggested that she had probably remained alive in an air pocket for several hours and might have survived had emergency personal been called at the time.

I have since despised the man. I will leave forgiveness to God and Mary Jo's family.

Perhaps at times of local tragedy, some readers are new to the blog not understanding there are many topics to be discussed. It doesn't mean their is a lack of respect to the victims of the tragedy.

The best thing to do is just ignore the posts that are about a controversial senator and go to the posts that are a concern at the local level.

Also, the community needs to have a conversation about what caused really caused the accident, not just blaming it on God and it was meant to happen. Having the conversation will bring attention to making sure buildings are in good repair and this will not happen again.

It is our responsibility to protect our children in every way possible.
