Once upon a time, the Miss America contest, Miss Universe etc were feature events on network TV. Even the Miss Texas Contest got some time on local tv sets in Texas. Now I think most have been lucky to find a home on one of the cable networks if at all. No one wants to watch these talented lasses anymore. Why is that one might ask? Just look at poor Miss Teen South Carolina and we find out.

This is another example of a kid who took advantage of "no child left behind." She apparently has passed on thru HS with an extensive understanding of what a map is and some places that should be on it - somewhere. She’s a cutie, tho, so who cares?

Do they even teach Geography in the school systems now? I get the impression from my kids that it's not politically correct any more to acknowledge borders, boundaries, or different nationalities. I received a heavy dose of U.S. and World Geography in school. Now, if the kids don't find out about it on TV, they don't know. Is geography on the TAKS test? That would make them study it.

Does this not scare anyone??? These uneducated, near illiterate citizens are the next "in charge" generation. Beauty ain't gonna cut it where brains are necessary. How about a beautiful blonde astronaut who cannot read?

It really seems to make more sense when you add music. I think I understand now.

Seriously - she is a 16 year old girl made up, glossed up, ace bandaged and taped, put in high heels and made to answer questions on stage in front of LOTS of people. I don't know that I could have done much better - I would probably have added flop sweat to the mix which would have ruined the look all together. Stupid yes but I do feel pretty sorry for her - not for what she said but for the fact that she will never live it down. Thankfully I had the sense enough not to tape all of my stupidity.
