A Crazy Flashback

I admit that this will have limited appeal.

The Ticket was doing a bit today involving a recurring character named "The Generic Youth Minister." It's pretty funny with the guy, in an effeminate voice, suggesting things like, "After the bible study on Paul's letters we can all leave from the Fellowship Hall and go get some pizza or KFC and stuff. We can take the church van if you guys want."

But the Youth Minister threw in a reference to "Jot" today. Man, I hadn't thought about that very crazy Christian cartoon in 20 years. And, like so many things, youtube has one of them.

I'm a youth minister. I've never heard of jot.

I do remember Jot. Although, I kinda feel sorry for him now...and, uh, it's "Ma'am." That "Mam" sorta killed me a little.

We would watch this along with David & Goliath, then Johnny Quest before heading to church.

I used to love to watch this before church! I forgot about David & Goliath. I used to love that one as well.

Amen, 6:41AM. I liked the way the characters' mouths looked on JQ.

All this church talk made me throw up in my mouth a little.....
I was forced to go to Catholic church until I was about 13.
Until I was able to think on my own like most sheeple aren't able to do.
Church, the most popular world time waste.

8:39 Sure sounds like you've become a brilliant thinker too!

Instead of painting all churches as a waste of time, have you considered the possibility that you have'nt tried the right church?

To 8:59 from 8:39,
My wife and I have discussed this topic at legnth. She is very experienced in most of the religions here in Texas. She agrees with me on the subject.
We don't need a building or a group of people to assist us in anything we choose to worship.

Which church would you suggest?

9:19..
Maybe she should rely less on her experience with religions and a little more on her experience with the Bible.

9:42 from 9:19,
She does also rely on her experiences with the bible. She knows the facts, has studied as legnth about the history, and traced it back herself in history books years ago before we met. She is very smart, and accurate on her opinions in my eyes.
Still we don't buy it. You and many others may see that as wrong, but it's our opinion. Everyone is entitled to one.

Speaking of these characters, let's not forget Gumby and Pokey, I remember watching them on Sunday mornings also.(late 50's-early 60's). I had totally forgot about Gumby until 4 or 5 yrs. ago amd then all of a sudden there was a girl that worked at Frillys(yes Barry, I've been to Frillys to!!) that reminded me of somebody that I just could not put a finger on,.... I would go up there time and time again because it was just bugging the heck out of me, finally after about 5 or 6 trips up there, it hit me in the face like a brick!!!!! GUMBY!!!! She was probably in her early 20's, kinda cute, but she was built like Gumby, a long, tall drink of water, but she had Nooooo butt!!! I guess just a long back with a hole in it??

If you remember "Jot" and "Davey & Goliath" from Channel 5's "The Childrens Hour with Bill Kelley" you should check out Moral Orel on Adult Swim.
I learned to read watching Bill Kelley read the Star Telegram comic strips.

Channel 5's "The Childrens Hour with Bill Kelley"? I had completely forgotten about that.

But I do recall Kelley coming to Bridgeport to MC the "Little Miss Bridgeport" contest one year. Closest thing we ever had to royalty. (Other than Santa Clause landing downtown in a helicopter.)

Every time I hear that character on the Ticket, I think of the FBC Decatur youth minister back in the 80's - last name Jackson?

Hayrides and ski trips with that dude must have been hell.

Does anyone remember "Slam Bang Theater" starring Icky Twerp that used to be on KTVT channel 11 on weekday mornings?

You bet I do 6:41. I loved the Three Stooges. I still do come to think of it. Is that the correct spelling for Stooges?

The only way my brother, sister and I got to watch The Three Stooges while eating breakfast on school mornings was for us to be dressed, our beds made, our lunches packed, our homework and books under our sack lunch at the door with whatever else we had to take or wear to school. We were never late to school. BTW, The Three Stooges was the only program we were ever allowed to watch while eating. My mom was a real hardass about us not watching TV especially when we were eating or doing homework.
