It's Raining Men

Republican Senator Larry Craig is under some heat today after it was revealed he pled guilty to the lesser charge of "disorderly conduct" after allegedly trying to solicit some homosexual sex in an airport bathroom.

The offense report is here. He claimed he pled guilty without the benefit of a lawyer. He needed one.

He just gave a press conference. I think he uttered, "I'm not gay" about 10 times.

Will he get a standing ovation on the floor of the senate like when a democrat is CONVICTED of a sex crime with a 17 year old boy or will he be asked to resign like when Republicans are ACCUSED of a sex crime?

Not trying to take up for the guy here but what was he thinking taking a guilty plea on those trumped up charges. Anyone who is interested might want to read the pdf of the police report; sounds to me like all this guy was guilty of is having a wide stance when dropping a duece, and not being able to find the end of the toilet paper with his left hand...oh and carrying his luggage in the stall.

I admit the guy was probably up to something, but this police report doesn't really support anything remotely criminal!

Barry,
(Or anyone else for that matter)
Tell us what the record is for comment posts on any given post of yours? I see that "When did this happen?" from August 26th has about 47.
Do tell do tell!!!

I love it when you guys get to bitching back and fourth about mindless crap....like those posts mentioned....

OK, I have no idea what happened here, and I'm not a Republican or any kind of particular fan of this guy ... but just to keep an open mind, I'll offer that this bust does sound a little bit like the old "roadside park" busts north of Decatur from about 15 years back, which turned out to be a scam between certain corrupt deputies and a bail bondsman. You may recall that the racket then was to make embarassing arrests, have a jacked-up bail bond charged, secure a quick "no contest" plea from perfectly honest and decent travellers who just wanted to get on down the road and back to their lives, and then split up the bail bond money. None of the victims were local, just passers through. So it took a long time for the scam to come to light. An airport bathroom sounds a little like that roadside park to me ... so my question is, are there a lot of these arrests in that airport? and is there a lot of bond money in play?

Or hell, maybe Craig is just another sleazy Rebublican.

I know one local guy who was arrested at that roadside park during that time. His case, however, was not trumped up.

"im not gay"....not that there is anything wrong with that.

What? Hand signals, looks, and purposefully bumping into someone in a public place for purposes of flirtation is illegal? Does this not happen in every bar, every work place, every high school about a thousand times a day? If the guy would have done this at a social cocktail, would he have been hauled off?

Well, I feel sorry for this guy. Now with the admission that he is not a gay Republican, he will be hated by the Log Cabin folks.

Republicans are so righteous. No fooling around with interns, but bathroom antics with the same sex are just fine.

Go figure.

3:55PM - Do you know the count - gimme it - Dem vs Repug on the homosexual sex crimes. Bet you can't.

De Debil - Gawd where are you? Even de debil is defending this Republican scumbag of the earth. I guess, Gawd, you really don't care about us, so screw you - I'm not going to church anymore, unless they all start paying taxes.

4:26PM - Noob! I think one of the winnars of all time blog responses would have something to do with one of those fancy non-demon churches Decatur has. Was it about the sign? I can't remember exactly, but I'm thinking there was something about Grace in there. It was way into the hundreds. What fun that was! Please give us money to buy a new fancy stone sign or something similar. YUUUUUUUKKKKK!

4:46PM - us old timers remember that shiate from way back. I think THAT sheriff went into the concrete bidness and is now dead - and he's surely burning in HELL according to the Christians.

Rose Of Sharon (TXsharon) - please add this jerk to your list of evil Repuglican neocons.

Love and later!

Anonynothing Whatever

P.S. Don't anyone even attempt to pray for me - I'm an Agnostic. Can you dig it?

What would have happened to the guy if he would have simply asked the undercover cop, "hey, want to get together sometime?". Might be better to hook up that way than with nonverbal communication. Or maybe not, perhaps you get arrested for asking someone out in that part of the world no matter how you go about it.

This Republican politician will soon be out of office either by resignation or by being voted out. Held to a standard, as are all the Republicans.

As opposed to:

Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass) who drove off a bridge, drowning a female campaign worker and waited half a day to talk to police about it. Kennedy is now the Democrat Majority Whip and Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass), whose "friend" ran a homosexual prostitution ring out of Frank's apartment. Frank was neither censured nor expelled. He has been re-elected several times in the 17 years since the scandal.

Rep. Gerry Studds (D-Mass), in 1983 admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old male page. Studds was reelected to office, was later appointed chair of the House Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries, and served until his retirement in 1997.

Rep. John Murtha (D-Penn), an unindicted co-conspirator in the early 80's ABSCAM investigation (he testified against other Congressmen), caught on video playing coy when being offered a $50,000 bribe (which he failed to report, a violation of House Ethics Rules.) Re-elected 13 times, Murtha is now the chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee.

A national columnist called Bill Clinton's lie-telling "poignant and endearing."

Life is easier for Liberal Democrats; there's no ethical standard for them to be held to. Nobody's ever disappointed when they do something sleazy.

WOW!
You people who are arguing about whether or not the Republicans are worse than the Democrats are engaged in a contest tantamount to that of discerning whether horse poop smells worse than cow poop. People, BOTH of them are POOP and they BOTH stink. The only REAL question is WHICH of the two YOU elect to eat.

Just a suggestion, QUIT sniffing the poop it seems to be making YOU crazy.

Barry, did BOX post or appear with him after 2:00 a.m. Been there and lived through it 1987-1988 re-visited. Sammy must have been in the stall with the "Duece". Thanks Devil of PAST YEARS reunited.
20 years later they have NEW signals, amazing.

Is it also illegal to pick up women while taking a crap? And what about lesbians? Do they even crap?

Wordpyle is full of his own baloney - again. Barney Frank has never denied his homosexuality and the charge against his aide is the aide’s problem. As for Democrats (or liberals) not being held accountable - well, has he ever heard of Henry Cisneros? How about Gary Hart? Either might have been elected president by now had not they engaged in questionable behavior and have been penalized for it. It just gets tiresome pointing out the Pyle's selective memory. Let's not condemn the party, let's demand better performance from all our elected officials.

I don't really care if this Craig guy is gay or not. I do care if he is a liar. So far, I haven't seen conclusive evidence of anything but his evasive answers.

MzChef, Get a clue. We aren't arguing about a scorecard, it's about the double standard of how which affiliation a person belongs to as to how they are treated by the press and their own colleagues. One get's a standing ovation of the floor of the congress for his actions with an underage child and the other is villified and crucified before his day in court. It couldn't be any more obvious.

To 12:09...
I realize that is one of the issues being argued and what you are BASICALLY arguing about is which side is worse. Obviously, ANY group that tolerates unacceptable behaviour from a member of its group is full of POOP. However, to act as though their opponents have not committed STINKY offenses is ahhh...uhhhh....STUPID. Thus, my point that the people who are arguing which side is worse are merely arguing which side smells worse. The Republicans and the Democrats are CHOCK FULL of flesh wrapped sacks of poop and defending either side indicates which brand of POOP you ELECT to swallow.

My needing to explain this to YOU goes a long way to helping me understand WHY people keep ELECTING to eat POOP from either group; you people just don't get it and seemingly ENJOY the brand of POOP you ELECT to eat.

The Minneapolis police posted a trained undercover officer in the airport restroom to curb queers from soliciting anonymous sex. He knows the non-verbal communication used by them and reports that Larry Craig did that to him. He arrested Craig and took him in.

Craig goes before the cameras (where you and I cannot) and presents his solitary version of the event, with his "supportive" wife present. She is there to present a "non-verbal" hint that he is not queer.

Craig says his gestures were only about retrieving toilet paper from the floor. There was no toilet paper on the floor. (We all use paper from the floors of public restrooms?) Craig says he was handcuffed and dragged to the police station. He was not handcuffed.

In custody, did he protest, "I am innocent....I was entrapped....the cop is queer!" Nooo...he asked twice aobut the status of his case and once enquired about a lawyer. He was given the business card of a lawyer who could represent him and never made a call. He now says he should have used it.

Craig claims that the whole event is a farce, meaning that the cop committed felony perjury and that his own admission of guilt was only an option to get the case quickly resolved. He plead guilty to a sleazy petty crime only to get it final? What? A US Senator would fall and admit to such a crime without fighting it to the Supreme Court? Not in this life!

Look folks, this is not an issue of liberal or conservative, democrat or republican. It is another example lies, deceit, cover up and abuse of the press to project a farce. You expect less from a member of the US Congress?

The problem is our culture! A gay man should not have to marry, sire kids, look for gratification in a restroom stall in order to be a politician. We need to get rid of the closet! Think of all the poor wives who eventually learn their husband is gay?

When will our nation be mature enough to understand orientation has little to do with brain power, character, faithfullness, ability to serve our country and on and on.

So many lives screwed up by bigotry

Anonymous said...

Mzchef, Get a clue. You completely missed the point again.

Question to 08:55 - What? It is biggotry that screws up the lives of restroom queers when they are exposed? There is nothing that prevents them from running for public office and getting elected if the MAJORITY of the voters accept that kind of behavior. We all need to find the truth about a person's background and behavior before we vote for them and then pass judgment at the ballot box. The majority rules. Is there something wrong with that? Are people of a popular opinion all biggots? The big error with Craig is that he continues to lie about the fact that he's a queer. Yes, if that truth had been out there, he may not have been Idaho's favorite Senator. Anything wrong with that?

Mzchief makes an excellent point. Republican and Democrat politicians frequently ignore the moral standards and laws observed by the majority of the people elected officials claim to serve. For anyone to defend either group indicates that person either believes morals and laws are subjective or politicians are excluded from being required to observe laws and societal mores.

I think I saw a theory about why there are so many perverts in the Republican party (and I do agree that there are rats in both parties but no one can deny that OMG the Republicans are sexually repressed or twisted or something)

Anyway it goes something like this: The Republican Party is extremely authoritarian so these people, in an effort to rein in their gay or sexually deviant tendencies, join the Republican Party and draft legislation against the very thing they desire hoping they will be forced to behave. I think this Criag had something to do with a bill about soliciting sex in public and that Haggard guy sponsored legislation against pedophiles.

Pretty whacky. ;)

The Devil said...

Anon Whatever....I guessed you missed the part where I said I am not taking up for the guy and that he was probably up to something. I could really care less whether he was a donkey or an elephant, all people do stupid things regardless of there political affiliation.

I am agnostic as well but I do not hate religion or religious people. I also do not gain pleasure by seeing a religous person get caught in scandal. I think an abandunce of people do bad things despite their beliefs. I do not wish to scream to the world about my agnosticism because I feel that is no different than Christians, Buddhists, or Hindus doing the same. So saying, "I'm an Agnostic. Can you dig it?" is really no different than a religous zealot shoving a religous text in your face!

"anon" 11:04 - Your two examples are the exceptions, not the rule. I was "selective" in the sense of showing what the media, the public and the Democrat party have condoned.

While all politicians are, at best, morally suspect, and scumbags exist in both parties, it's naive and blind to believe that the media treatment, or the political consequences for the scumbag behavior is equal.

Scumbag behavior is now part of the CV for Democrat politicians, so no one is bothered by it.

wordpyle, why are someone else’s examples just "exceptions" but yours have some kind of intellectually credibility? You are so full of yourself that you don't even realize your self aggrandizing statements are frequently recognized as pure bull--. For what it's worth, Senator Craig now seems on the verge of resigning or at least dropping out of a re-election campaign. This is not due to some news agency but due to his own duplicitous statement that even his right-wing supporters in Idaho don't believe.
