Wrong, very wrong. Uh, does no graven images come to mind, and there are no apostles living today.
That's just so odd. Uncomfortably so...
Shaaa, Its just not right.
Nothing new - just matches some of the same other churches are doing. Trying to out "success" each other. And folks buy into it in droves.
I guess this church believes that in America you have the LIBERTY, or the freedom, to worship like they do.
No apostles living today?
Not unless they were with Christ and seen him after his ressurection.
Tis true, we are disiples, follower's and student's.
Go read your Bible there are apostles living today
Watch how quick the ACLU steps in to try to have the cross removed.
Geez, and here I thought Christians were most concerned with feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, administering to the sick, and comforting the dying.
Anon 10:30, And this would keep them from doing those things how? Remember the tons of relief supplies and money that were donated through churches during Katrina? You need to find alternate sources for your shallow thinking.
A cross dipped in a jar of urine does not offend you and you call it art. But this type of expression just can't be allowed. Liberal hypocricy rum amuck.
Reagan Rip: Think you are wrong on this one. The ACLU would say that is free speech and thee church should have the right to use Lady Liberty as they choose. Just like burning a flag. It causes no harm to lady liberty. It is private property and a free speech issue.
Then why are they trying to remove a cross from a hilltop in San Diego that has been there for years? I think you are wrong on this one.
9:57, Please give me scripture.
This is as weird as would be a picture of Jesus wrapped in the American flag. And neither makes sense. But clearly this church has the liberty to exhibit in this way, just as someone else has the liberty NOT to believe in God or Christ; and instead in something else.
Does the removal of the torch indicate that the famous words on the statue no longer apply? "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! "It appears that you now need to be Christian and have proper immigration credentials to be welcomed to our country. How times have changed!
Reagan Rip: I don't know about the Cross on the Hilltop unless it is on government property, but I doubt the ACLU would have any problem with someone taking Lady Liberty, Uncle Sam or a statue of Barbara Bush semi-nude holding up the cross and the 10 commandments as long as it is on their own property. I doubt you would want Lady Liberty changed on the Statue of Liberty so that she is holding up the Cross and 10 Commandments. That would be different. Right?Public/government property vs. the rights of the individual.
In those times, those words were meant for Europeans. They would not have imagined today's situation. Just like in the days when the Bible was written, the book of revelation was referring to Caesar Nero, and because we are in our present day we interpret it as some, soon to come, 666-marked beast, when in fact it was just a reference to someone that, in those days, people knew about and feared. So he made for a good beast and a good story.
Just as I thought. You don't know about the ACLU trying to remove the cross in San Diego. I believe this church is private property. If burning a flag is free speech, why is it not hate speech? I think it is freedom of expression. It won't be long before the ACLU has any reference to God removed from our currency either. Are you on their side of that issue also? If it offends a few people, then they stand for the few, not the majority that aren't offended.
Will removing God from the currency make God no longer exist? Will removing God from the currency make it less valuable?
It gets tiresome correcting rants by reagan, but here're the "facts" on his claim the ACLU has been trying to remove a cross on a San Diego hill top."...Accordingly, the ACLU has stated that it is not seeking to have cross-shaped headstones (or headstones bearing any other religious symbols) removed from the federal cemeteries wherein honored U.S. veterans are interred: The ACLU is not pursuing, nor has it ever pursued, the removal of religious symbols from personal gravestones. Personal gravestones are the choice of the family members, not the choice of the government. Some people have confused the 2006 court battle over the 29-foot high cross that sits atop city land on Mt. Soledad in San Diego as an example demonstrating the truthfulness of this claim (i.e., that the ACLU is seeking to remove cross-shaped headstones from federal cemeteries). Although the ACLU has played a part in the Mt. Soledad issue, the cases are very different: the Mt. Soledad cross is not a headstone, it is not in a cemetery, and it is not on federal property." It's too much to expect regan to research anything - he'd have to think rather than regurgitate right-wing tripe.
The Cross is on City Property and that brings up the issue of violating the establishment clause of the US Constitution. You good Christian fundamentalist need to remember that the U S Government does not recognize Christianity as our established religion. If you want that you need to move to Israel, Iran, Arabia or the United Kingdom. Thank goodness we live in a country where we are free to exercise our choice of religion or not believe at all. Amen!!!
Can't we just all look at a silly statue, and not make it a left vs. right argument? Geesh....
Once again, everyone goes off on their tangents or agendas. This statue put out by a cult-like church is the polar opposite of everything Lady Liberty stands for - FREEDOM.Freedom of Religion does not mean everyone in America has to believe in Christianity. It is a complete lack of respect for the Jewish and Muslim faiths, and all other religions. Self-righteous Christians impose their beliefs on anyone and everyone they can and have lost true Christianity in the process. These 'churches' and I use the term 'church' loosely here prey on those who have never been to church, uneducated, and those in crisis like vultures. They want you to be 'high' on Jesus instead of living life one day at a time with the soft comfort and love from God (or any other higher power). When life is no longer 'high' and real life sets in, these same people who 'bought in' to these religions are left high and dry and unable to cope. Okay, there is MY tangent/agenda. I feel much better now. I just hope and pray some of these same type churches in Wise County will see this and re-think some of their gimicks to get/save souls.
Dear 3:41, I said the same thing, basically, at 9:27 in three lines.
Amen 3:41 - very well said. Thanks!Stay tuned for the Grace Fellowship Church opening. That place is gonna be huge.
The display of an American icon like this for the use of getting people to church seems wrong and down right unethical to do but the people who did this have the same rights that i do they just exercise them differently. by the way I wonder where this apostle was mentioned in the bible. Remember that the bible says that the devil will be well versed in the ways of the lord and look like the common church member but would take the bible out of context hmm makes you wonder about this apo$tle
Very well put 5:08, and I ask were is Peter or Paul as 9:57 said they are living today. No apostles living today, this man is no apostle.
4:44 - you didn't say anywhere near what the other post did. But as long as you feel superior, that's what's important.
As I said earlier, one person is offended by this and hires the ACLU to have it removed. We are all offended by something everyday. Life is offensive. Get over it and get on with your life.
well said 3:41
