any advice on what we can do to keep ourselves ok?

Things aren't gonna get better for a while and may get worse. When the big guns on Fortune 500 feel the pinch, no relief in sight. Even IBM has begun lay-offs and it could be between 11,000 and 15,000 in 2009.

OK, I'm waiting for all the shallow thinkers who will blame Obama or Democrats for the economic situation (while ignoring the fact that the Bush administration took a booming economy in 2000 and crippled it with war, poor management, lack of meaningful oversight and excuses for 8 years).

Pfizer is buying Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Word is about 7,000 people will lose their jobs when they consolidate operations.

oh, don't worry, I have it on good authority (i.e., Phil Gramm) that this is all in our collective imaginations. the fundamentals of our economy are strong!

As opposed to trickle down economics this it trickle up economics. At the personal level folks have been buying to much that they were going to pay for later. Guess what later is here! Here is a new concept take responsibility for your own actions.

I am from the government and I am here to help. Wear a condom and your troubles will be over.

11:00 you need to check your facts and let's remember, rebuilding New York after 9/11 was not cost free. As well, sure there are plenty of Republicans to take the blame but why won't the Democrats? And yes, it will be blamed on Obama because he inherited it just like Clinton inherited what Bush Sr. did for our economy. It's part of it. If you'll listen carefully you will see where most laws, changes, etc. won't take effect for approx. ten years. Just like Gitmo, Obama has signed the paperwork to shut it down but guess what, it'll be a while. Also, Al Qauada's number one goal was to ruin this Country financially and I'm not too sure they may not have succeeded, hence the war. Oh, and I'm not a shallow thinker, it's just the way it all works under I system.

It's Obamas fault

BG, I agree with you 100%. I used to be a loan officer, and I know the type of loans I was allowed to make. People could lie about their income and use their house as an ATM. Those days are over, but the over inflation of home prices and incomes, etc. is going to have to fix itself. This thing will last 3-5 years. My suggestions, just hold on because it is going to be a bumpy ride and remember not to worry about things you can't control.

Thinking was at a False high during Clinton. Artificially low gas prices for years, people getting approved for more than they can afford, and a euphoric mindset are also contributors.

Quit whining, the energy sector will keep Texas buoyed until things turn around.

The rest of the nation may very well be falling apart- Texas is comparatively booming.

Now that Obama is in office the national news media will have to start presenting a more rosy picture of the economy (or at least downplay bad news) and this will help but, you homos that live in Texas need to open you eyes!

obama said dont worry if he cant fix the "oconomy"....he would just jigger rig it!

Welcome to the change...snowball is melting faster.

Kick all the wellfare sucking illegals out and the economy would fix itself!

As all these companies go down, those tens of millions of Americans who despise big business and don't feel their lives are connected or dependent on big businesses are going to get a lesson in economics. Folks, even a dog catcher is just one or two degress of economic separation from how successful the local or regional big businesses are.

All this crap has happened under G.W. Bush's watch.

No Excuses. No Bullshit.

And you dumb asses from Wise County STILL can not figure it out.

12:36, Your comment doesn't even deserve a comment. You're too out of touch to even make a comment. Sure, he's going to get blamed for it because it was "Under his watch" but look at when it began. Of course if you're a radical liberal you won't get it so.....never mind.

This happened for two reasons (1) the effects of BILL CLINTON'S sub prime loans and (2) the high price of gas, which was the result of Democrats preventing us from drilling for oil on our own land.

Bush is only at fault for #1 because he didn't try to clean up Bill Clinton's mess.

We shouldn't have anything to worry about around here. Look at all the experts we got posting on this blog, providing invaluable advice

We are not going to get out too soon if every one is focused on blame. Solutions guys, solutions.

And it can't be all bad. Greed and materialism got us here. A little rounding of the edges might be educational.........if it were not for those totally wiped out by it all.

Already know of principal bread earners living in McMansions, with all the "must haves" now without work. The landing is going to be hard!

Following the foreclosures, layoffs, will be divorces, abandoned kids (on grandparents)
and sadly some suicides.

It really is more than a newsclip!

Wise County will not be getting any money for green jobs but we will get some tax money in the mail; however, if you don't have a job the tax decrease is not going very far.

Sorry, but the stimulus is NOT going to work because the new group doesn't have any magic fix for a lot of bad loans made back when Clinton was in office. Congress is just going to try to get re-elected while keeping the money printed up. We now have 30% more money floating around in our economy!

It is time to hunker down and weather a long, long recession or maybe a depression. Texas will do better than other states and Wise County has oil and gas production. It will take a long time to get the green jobs manufacturing windmills and get a new grid in place! Until then, white trucks will still be parked at the local eating places.

Everyone shut the hell up and put on a condom and the problem will fix itself. This advice comes to you from the 3rd in line to become president.

Helloooo,

My name is Lou Shure and after getting laid off from Sprint I went to work for Home Depot.

Anonymous said...

Well, one thing we can do is take more responsibility for our own financial messes.

Could that possibly help?

Anonymous said...

I blame Truman

Lucky for me I already don't have anything so I don't have anything to lose.

Hey, guys, what ever happened to "drill baby drill" and all will be dandy. Well, we didn't drill any more and in any more places AND yet oil prices halved. Gas pump prices dropped in half (temporarily). But the fact is we haven't drilled any more and the market is smoothing itself out. Reduce demand by reducing those huge gas guzzlers, reducing unnecessary driving and using better vehicles and the price comes down. Gee what a revelation!

Anonymous said...

2:43 Thanks for the laugh,it took me a couple times to finally figure out Lou Shure is Loser...lol

Anonymous said...

7:57, What happened to drill baby drill was taken care of by liberal weenies loaning money to anybody with shoes to buy a house and caused a worldwide recession. That's what caused gas prices to come down. But just wait, We'll get those prices back up there where you want them by this summer.

Anonymous said...

Gasoline prices are already on the climb back up.
