And I Bet He's A Muslim Who Took The Oath On The Koran!!

I made a joke last week in The Spin that Wise County would be so upset with the election of Obama that we would fly our flags at half staff. Steve Misner took it and, uh, ran with it. And you kind of get a pretty good idea about a person's prejudices when they throw out "B. Hussein Obama." Sheesh. (From Saturday's issue of The Messenger.)

I wouldn't call it a prejudice. More of a heavy-handed swipe, like calling George W. Bush "Dubya" or "Shrub." And unlike "Junior" (which many anti-Bush people used,) "B. Hussein Obama" is at least accurate.

Anyway, Obama now proudly proclaims his Muslim roots. In his televised interview with Al Arabiya television -- his first with any network -- he said, "I have Muslim members of my family. I have lived in Muslim countries."

Both factual, of course, but wouldn't these words have been called "racist hate speech" if uttered by a Republican prior to the election?

These are the kind of Wing-Dings that listen to political Right-Wing radio hate rhetoric and sermons. What a patriot! If he wants to disgrace the Flag, his United States, and his citizenship, he can just knock himself out. Of course, in Wise County, this is acceptable behavior. Maybe he should fly the Confederate flag above the upside down Old Glory to reinforce just how unhappy he is with the current situation and administration. Wordkyle will probably start this guy a fan club. Maybe Rush will talk about him on his radio show. Maybe his couragous act will cause people to wake up and insist we put George W. back in office permanently and stop this freedom of elections bull. This guy is the one in distress. He should take a cake of Ex-lax to see if he can ease some of it up, or out. Or, a couple of cakes.

I appreciate the "B. Hussein Obama" tag, with props to Ann Coulter, of course.

So it is racist to worry about a President's actions? Then the left has been against whites for the last eight years under Bush. Obama does not get a free pass because he is black. I want hin to succeed as my president not as the first black president.

People like Steve Misner are the reason I moved away and now distance myself from Wise County.

I suppose I give him credit for standing up for what he believes in(as flawed as it may be). However, at some point, when do folks like Steve Misner realize that he is fighting a losing battle and that his efforts are pointless.

Steve Misner needs to understand that he is in the minority now. Bite the bullet, learn to adapt, because change is inevitable.

A friend who is Japanese told me that if they spoke of their Imperial leaders as we do in America, they would be jailed.

And yes, it is hard to respect a President, whether Democratic or Republican if they "fall from grace", or don't exactly fall into the perfect category that we expect. But I can't judge, I'm not perfect either - way far from it.

We have abused our freedom of speech. We hear such ugly words spewed from talk radio and our own mouths every day about our government leaders.

This blog is pretty negative too. For every positive post, there are probably twice the negative ones. Somebody will come on here and lambast me for trying a bit of the positive. Such doesn't seem to be the norm now.

It is really sad. Wordklye says it isn't predudice. Maybe he's right. But it sure is mean spirited.

Our nation is divided and it was mean spirited for the crowd to boo President Bush Jan. 20th. Most of us would not protest but do express our opinions of how the new president will lead. The "stimulus" plan is of great concern for consevatives, small business owners and investors because too much of the spending is for social programs that double the spending from any other time in history. Money is being printed to pay for it and this will lead to runaway inflation! Stimulus money to ACRON is political pay off.

The new president is using fear tactics with everyone rushing Congress to pass the massive spending package. This is a sales tactic that none of us would back off from and ask why the big rush.

The more we learn about what is in the package, the more the public should be concerned about. We will be so far in debt we will be in distress and then we will be protesting in the streets like in Greece and Iceland!

There is a war against capitolism now and a move toward socialism. It didn't take the newly elected president long to support labor unions for pay back for their support. Texas has a good economy because it is a right to work state. Now when we have moved from manufacturing to a service industry, labor unions are flexing their muscles in a weak global economy! We all know the impact of labor unions and how they have crippled GM ability to compete.

Liberal/socialsits Democrats are planning on staying in power for decades and that is enough to make all us who are conservative great distress.

Perhaps before the four years are up, more will protest! It is not racial or mean spirited, it is our responsiblity to our country and to the future of our country.

How can the smart people on this blog that moved away from the likes of the RACIST Wise Co. and the keeper of this blog keep confusing the issues? It does not mean you are racist if you dislike this PRESIDENT!

If anything it is racist to say that anytime someone disagrees with the new President they are doing it because of the color of his skin.

The left is so judgmental for supposedly being so open!

704 - ah ah ah. If you want to talk about "ugly words" spewing, don't single out talk radio. Is there anyone, anywhere who compares to Keith Olbermann on MSNBC? Or a major TV network who used falsified documents to run a smear against Bush two months before an election? (CBS & Dan Rather) How about the treatment of Sarah Palin on television and in newspapers? Anything ugly there?

Democrats have targeted talk radio because it's the one medium that they can't control. Domination of 95% of all other media isn't enough. (And do we need to even mention the Liberal control of the entertainment industry?) Obama and the Democrat party have already singled out Rush Limbaugh for destruction. Limbaugh is, I might add, a private citizen, not a government official. They wish to use government power to eliminate a medium which opposes their policies (via implementation of the misnamed "Fairness Doctrine" or whatever alias they apply to it.) Talk radio is a hugely popular medium (not counting Air America.) It is a participatory system in which citizens can express an opinion. (And don't bother -- Limbaugh does take calls from people who oppose him.)

As for mean-spirited, look back to my post. Were eight years of Liberal media references to President Bush as "Dubya" meant to be nice? Liberal calls for unity and positiveness are manifestly incongrouous with their own actions of the last eight years.

If we designate someone with the name "Hussein" as automatically practicing the Muslim faith, then we must also consider every "Smith", "Jones", etc. as a devout Christian? Are there any Smiths or Joneses in this country who either don't go to church or worship other faiths?

Anonymous said...

Flying your flag upside down so long as "B. Hussein Obama" is President goes beyond mere "dissent". It's the kind of behavior for which Mr. Misner's daddy would probably have whipped him, had it been directed to ANY other President. And deservedly so.

And please do NOT couch so many of your obvious rascist attitudes in benign suggestions that "aw, it isn't 'rascist' just to use a person's middle name ... why, it's no different than calling out last President 'W'." ... Because you know damn well that it is, in fact, VERY different.

And it is also no excuse for your statements or behavior to suggest that those who disliked Bush ought to be able to "take" what they "used to dish out".

The hard, cold, simple and obvious truth is that there IS NO EXCUSE for many of the statements made in comments here and elsewhere, because they are, in fact, rooted in rascism, bigotry, and hate.

Disagree with policy all you like. Express your personal dislikes all you wish. Doubt the sufficiency of his experience and/or the substance of his judgement. Dislike the individual if you will. But kindly make SOME effort to purge yourselves of the rascist arrogance that has corrupted the American spirit for far too long. That particular hatred is the Original Sin of America ... the tragic and ultimately fatal flaw which - if not subdued - will ultimately dissemble us.

Anonymous said...

B. Hussein Obama is an example of this person's views on Obama. They don't look at his policy or anything that we should be paying attention to...just his name. So his middle name is Hussein, who cares? Some people have unfortunate names, all things considering. We've had Bush and Dick in office for 8 years, now we have someone with another unfortunate name in office. I think that speaks numbers about how the American people can move forward, especially in such a bad time in our nations history. They can look past trivial things like middle names and look at everything that Obama could/can do for our country. There will always be those who will be a bit slow in catching up with the rest of us, but that's okay...that's just part of this thing called democracy.

This man is obviously ignorant. I am sure he is still upset that women are allowed to vote too.

Read the 7:04 post again Wordkyle. The poster takes personal responsibility too and is not just blaming talk radio and in particular Rush Limbaugh.

What comes out of our mouths, and/or is written on this blog should makes us all be more responsible for what we say/write.

The negative always gets more response than the positive.

Barry has figured that one out well.

Anonymous said...

9:40 - that was very good.

It needed to be said and you did it very eloquently - particularly your last two paragraphs.

I'd love to see this sent to every paper in the United States and expressed on every talk show.

Thank you!

909 - I agree that there are idiots on both sides of the aisle. However, all idiocy is not created equal. The latest version voted for an inexperienced former community organizer who had never held an executive position, and who promised to implement Hope and Change without any indication that he either could or would. His administration so far has reflected neither.

I would not say that individiual educators failed. It's the so-called "educational" system, powered by politicians and bureaucrats, that no longer wants to educate, but to indoctrinate. Teachers, for the most part, do the best they can within a dysfunctional system.

As for ministers failing...one thing Conservatives believe is that human beings are, by nature, imperfect. What ministers do with their teachings is to motivate parishioners to aspire to a better way of life -- with the understanding that mistakes happen, but to continue to strive to be a better person. One political party is criticized for including that philosophy, while the other party excuses poor behavior with phrases like "They're going to do it anyway." (Subtext: Resistance is futile.) Neither party's perfect, but one at least tries to encourage better behavior (and choices.) So ministers have a job that will never be 100% successful, but their efforts are directed toward a philosophy that alleviates society's problems.

WK -
It was Bush admirers who put the "W" bumperstickers on their vehicles. I always took the "Dubya" term as a nod to the way we say "W" in Texas, a trait I admit I have (and am not ashamed of). I never took it as mean-spirited. Everyone can read things into words that weren't intended.

It was also a way to distinguish Bush the son from Bush the dad, since Bush the son wasn't a junior. It was confusing since Bush the dad and son share 3 names, but not the 4 names the dad has.
Bush the dad is George Herbert Walker Bush and his son is George Walker Bush - one is George H.W. Bush, the other is George W. Bush, so just saying W (or Dubya in Texas-speak) is easier and quicker.

And BTW - liberals control 95% of the media? Really? I am guessing (just guessing now - I'm too lazy to look it up) that the conservative Mr. Rupert Murdoch himself owns more than 5% of all US media.

Anonymous said...

You go Steve M.!!

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle, I assume you mean the Democratic party when you refer to the political party who is going to "do it anyway". Many Christian Democrats are likely more or just as conservative as Republicans.

I am a lifelong Methodist and we are accused of being very liberal in our thinking, but there are many of us, including me with strong conservative views.

Our problem in America is that we "label" everybody. That is very divisive.

My personal feeling is that ministers should just simply preach the Gospel and hope that their listeners hear the Word, go forth and make the world a better place.

...and hopefully such preaching will result in congregations making a positive influence on the political system.

wordkyle said...

1022 - A simple Google of "dubya" shows the usage. It ain't out of affection.

As for Rupert Murdoch, it's true that he owns Fox News. It's also true that Murdoch endorsed Obama for President. The only medium that Liberals don't completely dominate is talk radio.

I think that President Obama deserves the same respect given President Bush by the Democrats. Anything less would just be terrible. So I intend to treat him with the same polite graciousness the last President received.

I do worry that President Obama seems to be displaying in his public personna the same uninformed understanding of the world as his voters. This morning he said that businesses will have to give up profits. That seemed odd since profit allows growth and growth creates jobs.

Of course he's the community organizer so I am certain that his understanding of market dynamics is very high. If not he can ask his tax cheat Secretary of the Treasury or his tax cheat Secretary of HHS.

ignorant - DEFINITELY

Some people are unable to understand or comprehend. Or, they are unable to discern truth from rhetoric.

When people choose to ignore facts, when they embrace prejudice, when they refuse to try to understand.....this is willful ignorance

For example, wordkyle will only search for information that reinforces what he already believes to be true. This type of thinking is a treasure for political strategists. They can say, "Obama is Muslim" or "Obama pals around with terrorists". This all introduces doubt and by suggesting something that people already want to hear. BANG! Just a suggestion or doubt implanted is all it takes for people to say, "I knew it, I knew he was a terrorist!!"

At this point, they refuse any information contrary to what they believe to be true. Which is unfortunate because we cannot move together collectively as a nation as fast as we might otherwise.

For the record, I've oppposed Obama for a long time now, based on his policies and his philosophy. That's been pretty well documented on this blog. To classify my opposition as racism ignores what I've said. (Which I realize many commenters would like to do.) Crying "racist" makes it easy to avoid answering the questions that are raised. And this is not a defense of the stupidly racist comments that are posted. Those types of comments, besides being vile, detract from the valid arguments that some of us try to make. As with the more stupid comments made about Bush, Republicans or Conservatives, I ignore them.

I'd like to point out that the derogatory statements made about residents of Wise County also reflect a pretty high level of bigotry and prejudice.

RPM - You have a good point. Sarah Palin was unknown on the national stage until McCain picked her as VP. The subsequent treatment of her (and her family) by the media was indeed very ugly.

Back before Saddam Hussein was captured, Patriots were concerned about President Bush referring to the Iraq leader as "Saddam" because it sounded so casual and friendly. Of course, "Saddam" had been friendly with Republican leaders before the invasion of Iraq, just about everybody saw the picture of a smiling Rumsfeld shaking a friendly hand with Saddam. But the poopa put out was that the Bush Administration did not want to confuse anybody with the Jordanian King, King Hussein, an ally, so he was instructed by his handlers to use the first name of Saddam when talking about the dictator. Just because a person has a name he had no control over does not make him something he is not is spite of nutballs that want to make it into something it is not.
