According to the
Messenger, there were 21,026 votes cast in Wise County with straight ticket voting accounting for 10,599 of those votes.
That's 50.4%!!!!!!!!!!! (It was
39% two years ago.)
The breakdown:
Democrat: 2,454 straight ticket
Republican: 8,145 straight ticket
Edit: Yeah, I've got about five comments that I didn't post. I apologize but I really don't want to piss someone off.

How many Republicians did you vote for?
Note to readers: Barry won't say.
I agree--when you vote locally, it's absolutely STUPID to vote straight ticket. You MUST vote THE PERSON into office, not the "party", because that's who'll be doing the job. And there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING "Republican" or "Democrat" about the local offices. Locally, the parties serve ONE FUNCTION ONLY--to be the framework for a candidate to get his/her name on the ballot. National and State party platforms are meaningless locally. Good Grief, people!
What percentage of Repulicans vote straight ticket vs Democrats in Wise County?
The problem is...they don't understand themselves.
New accounts last night repeatedly showed a sentiment from black people as tears flowed that "now I can honestly tell my children they can grow up to be anything, even president. We've never had that in this country." Really? So back in 1968, if someone would have told little Barack Obama that in America even he, a black person, can grow up to be president...would that have not been correct?
Straight ticket got us Tom Bishop.
Movin' on up. To a deeeluxe Apartment in the Skyyy!! Yeah, movin' on up.
To 8:55 AM--76% Republicans and 24% Democrats. THAT'S how Tom Bishop defeated DENNIS Hudson. PLEASE, Tom Bishop, "get along" with our local law enforcement, especially the Sheriff, and PLEASE don't go crazy! PLEASE suprise us and be calm and level-headed! PLEASE!! Pretty please?
He worked for that redneck Atlanta based Delta Airlines....God help us all!
Wise County votes straight ticket because they're not educated enough figure out how to manouver the little dealy bopper thing on those voting things...
I hit the straight ticket - then went down and selected a couple of people from the other party. Does that still get recorded as a straight ticket?
WHAT THE H---!!!!
You are allowed to change any selection before hitting the final "vote" button. If you didn't vote for every person from one party, then you did not vote straight ticket.
Please explain this...
2454 straight Democrat
2084 for Barack Obama
2301 for Rick Noriega
1845 Tracey Smith
2257 Charles Randolph
2096 Gerald Hartley
BTW, so much for a Conservative Republican Leadership in Wise County who just raised our Property Taxes. Yeah !!!!!!!!!
Anybody see how Wall Street is reacting today? They must know something about how business is going to be crippled with our new Messiah.
The party that endorsed Obammy, The PLO, is ramping up and lobbing missiles into Isreal. Did I miss something? I thought the world would be all rainbows when the chosen one was elected
We need to do away with Political parties and revamp at the entire election process. How much money was wasted to go get the same (if not worse) lousy results? The system is out dated and the best person is not elected.
I also feel good people won't or can't run for office because of the time and money it takes.
It's a moronic theory to vote straight ticket.
Dennis Hudson was voted out of office after 16 years as Constable.
Jim Popp lost to a moron, an individual as qualified to be commissioner as I am to be a brain surgeon.
Look at the results in the Wise County Messenger.
Straight ticket voting just shows how much an individual really cares or knows about local politics, candidates or politics in general.
That's how YOUR new president got elected
I don't think the straight ticket vote should be an option on the ballot. Take it off.
Barry:
Once again the children are not playing together well. It is time to give them their bottles and put them down for their afternoon nap.
I think he said the sheriff is near!
Funny one, 12:51
I've been thinking about that line all day (Blazing Saddles, for the uninitiated)
He's probably thinking to himself: "I am so good! And they are so dumb!
Barry,
I don’t think you should delete a comment simply because it might “…piss someone off.” My comment was one of the five you deleted. My intent was only to offer ideas on where our new president might start changing things right away, i.e. Patriot Act, presidential orders, financial agencies. I’m sorry but I must change my vote for your blog as the best-in-area and place it with Silicone Alley’s Blog. She’s not afraid to post comments that she does not necessarily agree with.
Do GAYS vote straight ticket?
2:48
I let almost ANYTHING go unless I believe is is libelous (i.e. a statement of fact that I know to be untrue and which would harm someone's reputation.) Opinions are fine. Sometimes it's a fine line.
As far as "pissing someone off", it might be a matter of self preservation. I'm not a fan of angrying someone who can impact my life to a great extent.
Oh, yeah, no scatalogical humor.
And if you think I only post comments that I agree with, you don't know me very well.
I (mostly) agree with 11:52, I believe that a VERY GOOD MAN, Dennis Hudson was defeated because of straight tickets, but I also believe that until we get rid of the DEMOCRATIC organization in Wise County, and get one that wants to help, rather than personal gain and glory, that the Democarts will not have any backing in Wise County. Stay in there Jan Morrow. What goes around, comes back.
Here's somethin I was thinkin about just a little earlier.
Barry you might as well shut this blog down. It's done, people don't care about it like they used too,it's lost somethin soemhow or somethin.
I couldn't agree less, 3:16. It's the first blog I check everyday and judging from the number of comments Barry generates, I am not the only one to think so.
Barry, I respect your right to delete posts. This is your blog and I appreciate getting to post here.
The fact remains, though, that you know who we all are and also know that some of us are posting some truthful comments.
I've read some things on here that were absolutely mean and ugly and wondered why they were allowed.
It might be helpful if we had some criteria. Or if some exists already, where can we find it?
Yeah - you sure don't want to piss that guy off. He'll pull a gun on ya for not using your turn signal.
5:23 - care to tell us the name of the person you are referring to?
So we can be watchful.
barry dpnt wprry about what making others angry if you post those posts i am sure that some were about the new president and the biggest looser in wise county gerald hartley i bet his loss was a record and i am sure that some were over the pct 1 commissioner and constable races. dennis you will be missed thank you for the many years of serving this county with honesty and integrity i am sorry that you lost
It is time to boycott New Fairview.
The Republicagummers are very united in Wise. Gums away!
WHERTHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT A PERSON HAS A RIGHT TO VOYE A STRAIGHT TICKET IF THEY WANT TO.
JUST ANOTHER FREEDOM WE HAVE THAT YOU LIBERALS WANT TO TAKE AWAY
Oh, another freedom that "YOU LIBERALS" want to take away. So glad you conny's don't want to take freedoms away. Give a link so we can all see "YOU LIBERALS" trying to take away the straight ticket vote. The straight ticket vote is the strongest tool Republicans have. That is a tool that can get rid of a good constable and replace him with an inferior model. That is the tool a "Nutzo" Republican can use to get elected when then they otherwise would not stand a chance. Go you Republo straight ticket voters!!! Repulican voters will only give up their straight ticket voting when "they pry the electronic voting machine dial from their cold, dead, stiff, fingers."
The messenger disabled the blog on the Hudson/Bishop article, I wonder why???
9:25 am Only 11.67% of voters voted a straight Democratic Pary ticket and 38.74% voted straight Republican ticket. Dennis Hudson ran a good race in 2004 against Tom Bishop. The difference this time was: 1) Down ballot from a very liberal candidate that many local Democrats could not support 2)only one Democrat running at county level 3)Lack of leadership in local party
Many Democrats stayed at home because they didn't have anyone to vote for President.
