Decatur scored on a kickoff return, Bridgeport pulled their starters in the third, and they played most of the third and all of the fourth with a running clock. If Henson would have tried they could have scored a 100.

Hope your are right. What goes around comes around especially when dealing with kids. Two good programs, good coaches, two good sets of kids.

The variables are injuries/debth, and coachable kids (kids who listen to their real coach instead of their coach wannabe Dads)

Hats off to both programs.

Perfect seasons are rare.

Yah good season, I was there last night,,, I bet all the ref's live in b-port and have kids that play football!!! WHAT A JOKE !

Anonymous said...

don't forget the parents that tell their kids they do not have to do what the coaches say or mama or daddy will go yell at the coaches,so therefore the kids yell and back talk the coaches and other players...

Anonymous said...

Yeah, there are a LOT of variables in youth sports. My hat is off to all the coaches who make a career that is largely dependent on teenagers' hormones and immaturity!! Pretty scary when you think of it.

Politics and sports

Seems to be the only two arenas where people completely put their brains on hold and follow their heart despite the facts.

A bad call might have affected one play, one score but a 56-7 game?
Come on. This season, this night, Bridgeport came out on top. There have been past years where it was different and there will be future years when it will be differenct.

Bad calls aren't the difference. Maturity calls for just a simple acknowledgement that "this year they were better." End of story.

Great win for the Bulls. This is especially nice for the BHS Seniors.

Congratulations Bulls and coaching staff!!

I'm betting: DHS's Kyle Story will ask for a tremendous RAISE and possibly that indoor practice facility he's been whining about, or more. That's the kind of "character" he has. I'm just bettin'. Anyone want to get in on this one?
He has the worst season Decatur has seen in eons, but I'm tellin' ya, he thinks he's a god and if Decatur wants to keep him, they better shell out bucks and a cooler pad!
Congratulations to BHS! Enjoy the year, because next year isn't too far off. Hopefully Story will take a hike (a long one) and DHS will once again become great!
Good luck in the playoffs, Bulls! We'll be rootin' for ya!
Signed,
Decatur taxpayer

8:17, have you ever been around these kids when they are together and don't know adults are around?

Anonymous said...

did they really have fireworks?

Anonymous said...

What game were you watching 8:07. They never took out their starters. They turned off the play clock on Decatur. Henson called a time out with 27 seconds left to go in the half so he could score with a lead of 35-7. Congratulations to our freshmen quarterback who showed leadership and class.

why does it have to be so complicated. The BPort boys poured their hearts and souls into this season. I am the proud father of one of the players and could not wish for a better senior year for my son. For those who choose to make critical comments; you are a bunch of frustrated wanna bees.

From a Decatur Fan: Great job Bridgeport- Good luck in the play offs

Morgan said...

CONGRATS to a great season thus far Bulls.
And that firework show was a fantastic touch.

Oh come on Barry, that is all we get? We tried to give Decatur several times to score. It just didn't happen. They did have a great band and great Eagle Doll Performance. They are awesome!!

8:36 You're the only joke here. The officials called an excellent game. Even if Decatur had gotten all the calls, it still would not have mattered. Bridgeport was completely dominant and this year's team is obviously a team of destiny.

BTW 8:59, Bridgeport had all backups in the game except for 2 players with over 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Otherwise, we would have hung triple digits on the score board.

GO BULLS!!! Win State!!!

Anonymous said...

From a Decatur fan, congratulations to Bridgeport for a great regular season, and good luck in the playoffs.

But for the drunk Bull fan in the parking lot who asked the departing Decatur fans if we were "tired of getting our asses whupped" ..... wow, one year, get over yourself.

Anonymous said...

Get a life people. BPort had a better team this year and that is all it boils down to. Everyone is always critical when their team loses. Show some support for a team that has shown they have what it takes to rock, roll and dominate on the playing field. The Bulls have something to prove and they are shoing that. The battle of the big sandy is a yearly tradition and the best team will always prevail. Congratulations to the Bulls for a well played season and good luck in the playoffs. Hope you win STATE. That will be a good trophy next to the Big Sandy Jar displayed in the trophy case.

Decaturs' achilles heel all year has been their defense. They haven't been able to stop anyone, especally against the run. The worst defense I have ever seen. Wow, the yards they have given up must be some new high school record.

The offense has been pretty good except for all the turnovers, most of which were interceptions.

They started with over 60 kids at the beginning of the season and last night I counted 40 in uniform. Lost quite a few to injury. Some quit. Some were kicked off for being boneheads.
Tough times.

The QB is a head case. Was ejected last week for the punch he threw towards the end of the game. Was suppose to sit out the first quarter only, but got in trouble this past week and ended up not dressing at all. That put Parker, the freshman, starting the game. He broke his thumb in the first half. No QB. So, they just hiked the ball straight to the running back the rest of the game, except for one series.
The QB needs some head straightening action in the off-season.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Bridgeport has the whole package. Great size and athletes on both O & D lines. Great speed and skill with the utility players, and good specialty teams. What really sets this team apart from all their teams in the past is the really good defense. Good luck to you in the playoffs. I plan on going to some of them as a Wise Countian, not a Decaturite.

I love these people who want to fire the coach after ONE yes ONE bad year. Lets see injuries, discipline problems (guess he is suppose to follow all the kids around 24/7), and youth comes into play. Story a god, no a Godly man. Love all the fair weather Eagle fans reminds me of the Cowboy fans.

Anonymous said...

From a Decatur fan; I thought allowing the Bulls offense one additional score after the half then putting in the backups showed justice the the great Bull players and class on the part of coach Henson. Much more than many of the B-port parents and fans you apparently can not get over past failures. For the most part the Decatur players showed the heart and style by never giving up and playing hard to the end. Congratulations to both teams and go win state Bulls.

Anonymous said...

Well, let's not rewrite history. One bad season? With the exception for one, maybe two years out of nine, the record can best be described as one-and-done.

Winning weak pre-district seasons and winning the Big Sandy more often than not may make some people feed good, but it is hardly something to get righteous about.

Anonymous said...

...and the winner of the "dumbass of this post" award goes to...........the parent of a decatur football scout team player9:32.

1:38, no one said to FIRE Story (although that's a great idea). Maybe you best read the post again. It is a BET concerning future events that deal with Story. You wanna make that bet that he won't ask for a raise,or for better facilities (as though the ones provided are a reason for such a poor season)? hmmm? Wait and see! I just hope to God that the board members use their commone sense and keep an understanding that they represent the taxpayers from Decatur and our tax base is NOT what Northwests or Southlakes is.
You must be a Story fan. Lot's aren't!

Good job, Bridgeport. We're behind you and want you to do our district proud. Great team!

As a Decatur native, I was very proud of our boys too. Coach Story has built a great athletic program in Decatur and everyone I know really appreciates him.

It's best to ignore cranky, negative people.

I'm from Decatur and my son played on the 2002 eagle team as a Sr. They went 12-1 first 10-0 season in like 20 years! My son and I still talk about that season! It was awesome something that we will remember for Ever!!!! Congrats to the Bulls! I hope they win state!! And to all you Bull's Dad's that have Sr. Wow I know how you feel!! Enjoy every second it's special! Trust it's over way to fast!! The worst part was watching my son walk off the field for the last time knowing that he will never play another game! So Dad's Mom's enjoy!!! It's priceless! I think Coach Story said it best! This is the best Bull team I have ever seen! I agree and Coach Story is not a god but he his a Godly man and my son learned a lot from him! Go Bulls win state make us all proud

Morgan said in the Messenger that this was Bridgeport's first perfect season. Didn't they go 11-1 Henson's first year at Bridgeport, following an 0-10 season the year before??

As a 2008 graduate of Decatur, i'm proud of Bridgeport. I wasn't at the game last night, or any game this season but I will say from what I've heard of friends who went, that Decatur did not have a good season at all. Anything from bad attitudes, problems at school like grades or trouble..they had a hard time keeping a team together this year.

I only hope that when Bridgeport won last night, they were classy and considerate about it, as well as the Decatur fans being good sports about losing. I would hate to hear that after waiting all this time for a win by Bridgeport in the Battle of Big Sandy, they would ruin it by showing off or being rude about it.

Go Bulls! Good luck against Abilene Wylie (if yall have to play them)

No 3:40 you suggested that he take a hike hopefully a long one. Others have said he needs to go. You appear to be quite angry. Sorry jr sits on the bench. So have you been at the booster club meetings? Are sitting in the stands from start to finish pulling for the Eagles? You're probably one of those that leaves early. Have to say I agree with you about the indoor facility.

Attention all you disgruntle Decatur taxpayers. We have someone in Alvoid, who calls himself a coach (A.D.). He has collected over $200,000.00 to be a (he's not) CERTIFIED Vice Principle, he destoried a girls athlectic program and a families life. Maybe ya'll might be much happier with him instead. I know WE would be much happier without him. If we got rid of him, then maybe there wouldn't be the need for 6-7 coaches on the field trying to teach the boys football.
It just amazes me that a classroom teacher can have 20-22 students in there classroom with no other help but the football team needs 2 coaches per 8-16 boys. Are tax money hard at work as usual!
OH PLEEEASE, take him off the taxpayers payroll because then the rest of the dead beats will follow. Thanks John Trice!

3:09 I think we might need to re-write some history here to correct your mistaken post.

From 1999 to 2001 Decatur did not make the playoffs under Coach Story.

2002 Decatur was 12-1 (10-0) and defeated Glen Rose and Iowa Park before losing to Sweetwater.

2003 Decatur was 10-2 (9-1) and defeated Venus before losing to Vernon.

2004 Decatur was 12-1 (10-0) and defeated West and Gainesville before losing to State Champion Abilene Wylie.

2005 Decatur was 8-4 (7-3) and beat West before losing to State Finalist Gainesville.

2006 Decatur was 10-1 (10-0) and was one and done losing to Abilene Wylie.

2007 Decatur was 6-5 (6-4) and was again loses to Abilene Wylie.

In all there have been 6 playoff appearances with a record of 6-6 and only 2 of which were "one and done".

6:42 In 1993 (Coach Henson's 1st year at bridgeport), the Bulls went 11-2 losing to Perryton in the regional championship. They went 8-0 that year before losing to Southlake Carroll. Robert Morgan was right in that this is the 1st year in Bridgeport High School history that their football team finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record. Go Bulls! Win State!

Anonymous said...

Please Tell Me B-port didn't shoot off fireworks after beating D-town?

Anonymous said...

dhs08. I agree with you that Story won't leave until his daughter & son graduate. That means he's here several more years since his son is just an 8th grader this year. Some seem to think that he will be the the varsity quarterback next year as a freshman.

Anonymous said...

3:52...Don't think so highly of yourself. The fireworks were for the undefeated regular season. The running clock in the second half was requested by Decatur and honored by Bridgeport. To the person whining about calling timeout before the half to score again, all coaches try to score all they can in the first half. Most offensive starters for Bridgeport were removed after two plays in the 2nd half. Most defensive starter were out with about 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The only reason any starters were left in the game is because I don't know of any 3A program that is truly 2 deep at every position. Decatur has a great winning tradition but everyone at this level has down years. Story has done an excellent job over the years. I haven't always appreciated him running the score up on us but let's face it, if he had the opportunity and didn't take it, some people would want to run him out of town on a rail. I'm just glad my job doesn't depend on a bunch of high school kids and their crazy parents.

Anonymous said...

I think both teams have good coaches and role models. I think all our coaches need a pat on the back right about now. Not everyone can win all the time; that would not be competition, now would it.

Do I agree with all the coaches' moves or calls? Of course not, but we've entrusted them with our most precious cargo, our children. I would hate to have made some of the decisions Story and the DHS coaching staff has been faced with over the past two weeks, but that's why we hired them and keep them employed.

Fortunately for some of these posters, THEIR jobs don't depend on teenagers with emotions, and THEIR jobs aren't so public.

Thank you coaches and teachers for the battlefield you enter each day of the week.

Good luck next year, Eagles, and very best of luck and safety to BHS in the playoffs.

Anonymous said...

10:18, you think you have me pegged. Ha! Not even close. I said I hoped Story would 'take a hike' ...as in QUIT and go somewhere else! He gloats that other schools who have MORE MONEY, BETTER FACILITIES want him! Well... then he needs to take a hike and go to them. We do NOT have the tax base for what he desires, nor is his record at DHS one that evidences he deserves what he wishes. (Actually, it doesn't matter WHO is at the helm, Decatur does NOT have the tax base to invest in an indoor facility, new stadium or a HUGE raise for the AD!) Decatur school board members need to realize that and get off the DREAM PONY! I don't have a kid in school, I am simply an observer over the years and I have some inside input from those who know real incidences in the DHS athletic dept. Sorry you and the public have no clue about those, because if you did, you and many others would have asked for Story's resignation long ago. Actually, have you ever wondered WHY so many others want him gone? hmmm? Godly man!????? HARDLY!!! Are you people who back him snookered? yep! Time for him to go before his kids get in high school. If he wants "great" facilities for them, then he needs to find them at a district that already has them or that can afford them. Do you WANT your school taxes to go HIGHER just to keep Story here? Get real! I mean....really......get real!!

Barry I am new at this, but I was wondering if there was any way that you might could post an article that was in Sundays Star Telegram (first page of the sports page) titled "Unique Fan support lifts players' spirits".
As I read this article this morning with tears rolling down my face, I thought to myself now this is truly Friday Night Football in the State of Texas. However, I wondered would this had taken place in Wise County. Would a coach have gone to these lengths to welcome an opposing team? Would parents of a Wise County team sat on the opposing side and cheered for 14 young men who they didn't even know their names? Would sub-varsity cheerleaders suited out to cheer on the opposing team? And would Wise County provided a meal, baked goods, and waved bye to the opposing team as they drove out of the parking lot an hour after the game? Thank you Coach Hogan, Faith Christian players, faculty, students and parents for reminding me what True Friday Night Football in Texas should be about. For a team that was 0-9 on Friday night, left the game as the true winners. Faith gave fourteen young men memories that they shall never forget, ones that they will share with their families for the rest of their lives. The mission statement for Faith Christians athletic program is "to develop and graduate authentic Christian leaders." Good luck Faith Lions in the playoffs.

The statement that Coach Story's son will be the varsity QB next year is absurd. He has 2 excellent QB's coming up that will be Sophomores next year. Coach Story is a good man and an excellent coach--last year on this blog everyone was wanting to fire the Bridgeport coach.
Just hope that Coach Story knows that he has a lot of support and does not take to heart all of this mess that is written by disgruntled parents and students.

628 are you still stuck on your vendettas?

Come on the season is over and it isn't for lack of coaching or effort on the part of the boys, if you are airing out your issues on here some many months later, obviously you haven't paid a bit of attention to any of the sports of fall including the girls cross country who did well even with new coaches.

The boys did well as well if you watched any football you would know that the Jacksboro game was a big game that had several questionable calls that neither the boys nor the coaches had any control over.

If this has something to do with your kid then just call a spade a spade and move on, don't continue to punish the rest of the athletes at AHS by keeping the fires alive on your issues.

I am a taxpayer as well, and while I do not think everything is hunky-dorey all the time I think this one should be buried so chalk it up to 6 feet under put some dirt on the box and fly a new flag over some other issues.

I'm a fan of smash-mouth, down and dirty, tough as nails, football. I believe my thoughts on this is due to the era I grew up in. But, what drives me nuts is the fact we have kids walk onto the field with all the tape, towels, armbands, legbands, taped-up shoes, matching this and matching that, sweatbands on thier calves, biceps and no telling where else and the purpose it serves, I have no idea. You sweat above the band, you sweat below the band, what's the point? Looks I guess. They all look like a Big 12 college team and end up playing like a Junior high team. Bridgeport goes out, they all look the same, simply uniform, black shoes, white helments with a "B" and kick our butts. Bridgeport proved you don't have to look pretty to "Bring It" and boy did they "Bring It". It's an attitude thing. When you're more worried about looking the part than playing the part, you'll suffer for it everytime. I think Decatur needs to get back to basics and prove your ability on the field and not attempt to prove it by how you look. I hate it for the Eagles but Good Luck Bridgeport.

AS AN OUTSIDER THAT WENT TO BRIDGEPORT TO SEE A FOOTBALL GAME I WAS EMPRESSED BY BRIDGEPORRT. HOWEVER I DO NOT KNOW OF THE BAD CALLS SOME OF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. I THINK HENSON AND STOREY BOTH ARE GOOD COACHES. THE ONLY PROBLEM I COULD SEE THE OTHER NIGHT
WERE CHSAP SHOTS FROM SOME NOT ALL OF THE DECATUR PLAYERS. #20 WAS EJECTED AND THE REFS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WARNED PLAYERS. #33 SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR HIS ATTITUDE AND CHEAP SHOTS.

I would like to say that I have watched Wise County Sports for many, many years and have always been proud to say that I am from Wise County. When a team wins, I am happy, but there always has to be a team that loses and I am sad for them. I hope that the WCM was real proud of themselves for bragging about the scores for all the years, but can't you swallow some pride and congratulate the Bulls for a good year. Go back and look at the Football special and read the comments of the Decatur player and the Bridgeport player and see which one has CLASS.
Decatur, I was proud of you when you made the playoffs and hoped that you would go all the way.
Bulls, I am proud of you and hope you go all the way.

If you do not have a daughter in the AHS girls program, then you have NO IDEA what those girls have been through. Chaney is suppose to be the AD for ALL SPORTS not just football. He has NEVER at any time (during or since this summer's past events) called the girls together, and talked with them about their sports, or showed them the same kind of support that he has shown the boys. My hat goes off to the Schmucker's as they are trying to hold together a program that has been virtually ripped apart. To them I want to say 'YOU HAVE OUR SUPPORT, AND WE WILL BE SUPPORT YOU AS WE HAVE THE ENIS. YOU'RE DOING A WONDERFUL JOB!!!" Keep it up!!!!!!!

1:29 - Change is not good when you have a state team brought down. You are wrong and do not know what you're talking about. The girl's athletes suffered at the hands of John Trice and school board and no matter what, they will always be responsible for the tears shed this year....and for what? A jealous AD that set up a football schedule that PeeWee could look good in. We are caught up in good 'old boy and the district has suffered measurably and the board it too caught up in their personal glory to do the right thing. God help us. We can't seem to help ourselves.

10:34, my my, aren't you the class act telling me to shut up! Typical. If you will READ my posts, I have said I BET Story asks for a raise and a new indoor practice facility or something new of that kind. I BET! And you're telling me to SHUT UP??? I must have struck a major nerve! (have I let the cat out of the bag?)
I have every right to my opinion which is: the man needs to go! Just have you have a right to say you want him to stay. But I won't tell you to shut up! I may disagree with you, but I'm a little bit beyond the childishness of saying "shut up!"
I'm not a board member, but have years behind me and I have paid attention to how things work in DISD. Again... wait and see! There will be a push for a raise and a new facility of some kind! If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but if I'm right........I'll say it AGAIN. I do not care to see my (or your) taxes go up to fund a raise for Story or to appease his wish list! Good coaches come a dime a dozen and if the school board doesn't realize that, then we may all be stuck with a major tax increase.
I'm most certainly not a "wannabe" because I'm a "already been there done that" one! Figure that out.
Decatur is a great school with wonderful teachers, but the coaching staff needs some major revamping NOW! That's my opinion and I'll speak it all I want. If you don't like it, too bad.

1:29, "the Enis's" have not left Alvord. Curtis has, but not Rhonda. Pay attention to what you say.
You folks who make "friends" with coaches need to take a look at the complete job they do! Just because someone is a "nice person" doesn't make them the best person for the job, especially if they are NOT doing their job as they should. I kinda believe that when a person is paid money to do a job, then, ya know.....the job should be DONE, and done correctly. Chaney has not had a winning season ...ever? in Alvord. He does not support the girls' programs and when the man comes into a dressing room full of clothes and sets off a toxic fogger, then I have to wonder about his sanity! (Those clothes all belonged to kids who were out for PE....... when they came back, the fogger was still covering the entire area. That was a TOXIC fogger for those who didn't quite get that.) Do you realize how LUCKY AISD is that those kids are not all sick? Chaney really does need to look elsewhere for employment, and preferably in a place where NO KIDS are. It's time for a more responsible man to come in and BUILD ALL athletic programs in AISD. Too much bad blood remains and that can only be fixed by a cleansing. Starting at the TOP! Athletic Director. byebye

I have seen a lot of schools and very few did the AD ever if he was an active coach ever have a sit down with the other side of the program in a manner apparent to the athletes. Most of the work is done behind the scenes, so if that is the same in Alvord how would anyone know what is really going on if there weren't there themselves? This is just one of those to be flies on the wall, you can't take the word of a coach who is on the way out for gold unless you know the entire truth of what has happened behind closed doors.

It isn't about friendships it is about the work that is done to make sure the programs, winning or losing are in line with compliance. I know a lot of people in Alvord would argue that that hasn't been done either, however no Title 9 verdict has been made so until that time, all it is is talk and more talk about how the programs are not balanced.

The crazy thing about some of those transfers is that some of the people that were the most upset about the issue took their children out of the school system and placed them in another before they even gave new coaches a shot rather than keeping their kids in the system and having backbone enough to continue to work toward a positive solution. Instead in a sense they made waves and ran leaving the ones that had no intention to running to foot the bill and carry the burden they created. Now I don't know about you, but where I am from that is called YELLOW.

Some of what you said was sensible until you got to that last line and called some good people in Alvord cowards. Your intent from the beginning I think.

Alvord would love to have a transcript of what took place behind closed doors with Trice and Chaney..........and I am sure those two wouldn't want that revealed.

The public can only make judegments about what they see.
Two of the latest examples. The operative word here, latest.

An AD does little if nothing to combat staph infections in his dressing rooms until the school is turned in to the health dept then a bomb is set off in the dressing room without checking to see if kids were present or about to be present. Result: a kid spends time in the ER.

An AD finds time to travel to Stephenville to testify in the punishment phase of the trial for a child of one of his coaches .(who pead guilty to intoxication manslaughter by the way) but can't find the time to be present at girls regional Cross Country meet the following weekend. The title 9 report may not be back, but what conclusion would any sane person draw from this?

People who could, fled the Alvord athletic program based on their fear of retaliation by the Trice Chaney crowd. A fear based on the track record to date for speaking up against these two. All parents who could, would protect their children this way. That isn't cowardice, but good parenting.

Just in my opinion, but aren't there a lot of people who could have done the same that chose to stick it out and stand strong?

I don't know about all the allegations on the pesticides or staph but I do know staph cases have been reported by girls as well and it isn't for lack of sanitation in their department. I believe that staph is actually spread in many ways not merely athletic facilities. I don't know I am not a doctor, but that is what I have been told by a doctor so I am assuming his knowledge would not lead me astray.

8:05....your problem is going to be finding a sane person in Alvord. I think y'all should rope off downtown and have the two factions duke it out. God knows everyone else is sick of hearing you whine.

Anonymous said...

More girls would have left had they had the means. Think it thru.
Sell your home, buy another in another district during these times?

Regardless of the reason, those you stayed are to be admired. They are going to endure "rebuilding" years that simply were not necessary had Trice/Chaney not gone on an ego trip.

It is a good thing that the Smuckers have turned out to be good people.......good for the girls who have stayed. However, as long as Chaney is around they are endangered species........working against the culture.

The very bottom line, the girls program and the girls themselves have been hurt when it wasn't necessary.

"Smuckers are good people" unlike the last girls COACH !

"girls did well", "call a spade a spade"????? Were you at the Regional meet? Obviously not. You were probably out fishing with the AD. Have you ever been to a cross country meet? Very doubtful! Here's the spade. The new guys are trying their hardest to clean up the emotional mess that the AD and others created. They need to be commended for that. Hopefully the AD won't do the same thing to them he did the the Enis'. I hope history doesn't repeat itself, just because they are actually doing a good job for the girls. You know, Chaney may feel threatened again.....I'm just saying.

Anonymous said...

Why would the old coach come back? He's moved up in status, pay and support. Why would he bother to come back to Alvord where he has to do the job they hired three new people to do and put up with no support from the AD?
Fact is, 12:51 - or Mr. "C" - Those that left did so because the AD does not support the girls program. He and his loafers only came to the district cross country meet so that they could take a day off. If they were truly interested in helping out, they would have been at the junior high cross country meet that afternoon. If they really wanted to support the girls program, they would post the name of the new track coach on the website. But they don't. WHY? Because they don't want to see the girls succeed and make their own coaching ability look bad.
The Jacksboro game......was the worse display of coaching the fans have ever seen. The bad calls were not the only reason we bombed. It should have never come to that. The question is, why would you still support the guy that put a kid back in the game with an obvious head injury? Why would you support a guy that has NEVER supported the girls unless it means a day out of the class room? Oh yeah, that's right, he doesn't teach a class. Could that be because HE'S NOT CERTIFIED?
Yes, football is over - hopefully you people will open your eyes and see that you got rid of the wrong guy. If the old guy would come back, maybe he could be the new football coach and show you people that are still in the "trice trance" what a good coach looks like.
Now, get off the computer and get back to work. Honestly, we are tied of you wasting our tax money!

Was Enis in a classroom more than a toutorial class his last couple of years? From what I have heard he was not because of TAKS scores so if he wasn't teaching what was he doing during all that free time? There has been a lot of talk about what Chaney has done in his spare time but has anyone really looked at what Enis was doing during that time during "tax payers" time? If they had I don't think they would be completely pleased either.

Anonymous said...

It's obvious 12:19, you do not have a dog in the fight. If you did you would know what Enis was doing. He spent his time building three good programs as his record reflected. In his spare time, he did Chaney's job. Why do you think it took three people to replace him? He taught math - TAKS scores - go look! You will be surprised. So what you heard.....I would consider the source before you take it for the truth.

Anonymous said...

TAKS scores were in fact down in his area when he was teaching...hmmmm

As for him focusing strictly on his programs I guess that is why on any given afternoon during school hours on many occasions he could be seen going for a run or tanning in the local salon. Great use of tax dollars there let me tell you!

I am not discrediting his record, but winning is not everything there is to be had within a program. If it is all that matters then clearly there is something wrong with the big picture what happened to the educational end of the situation?

With those TAKS scores down something wasn't right, now was it? Maybe focus was so much on the program that it wasn't in the classroom as much as should have been.

Anonymous said...

At least he wasn't sitting behind a desk and blogging on this thing like you are. Just saying!

Anonymous said...

3:26 agreed I think someone said it best a few posts ago "Curtis Enis is gone" point blank let it go

Anonymous said...

You best check Enis's TAKS scores.

Enis's assignment had more to do with Trice attempting to get him to leave.

Once again check Enis's TAKS scores. Don't blame him for kids he didn't teach.

I think one school professional commented after looking and the droping scores (for the whole class) they might want to put Enis back in the regular classrom

Anonymous said...

Think you might want to differentiate between Sophomore TAKS math scores being down and Enis's kids TAKS scores being down.

The last year Enis taught regular math he had 100% passing. Trice moved him to special ed (it was supposed to get him looking for another job, instead Enis did the job assigned him)

I think it was Trice himself, upon looking at the Sophomore scores mused that they were going to have to put Enis back in the classrom.

Not sure about Enis in the tanning booth...........ask the elementary faculty......under the current principal I think they might know if he was there.

Running during his conference period? Shame on him!

I'm sorry, did someone say that Alvord's Athletic Director is NOT CERTIFIED to teach? What certification does he have? Now, let's not be "just sayin'" here, but be factual.
If he is not certified as an educator, then WHY does Alvord have him there?
Please, someone verify this allegation of 'no certification.'

Kim Redman said...

To begin with, my name is Kim Redman. I am just clarifying the comment made about my son. He DID NOT PLAY after he was injured. He was on the field for one play and Coach T had Coach Chaney pull him off because he was acting funny. Coach T, Coach Deweber and then Coach Chaney all checked on him and all agreed that he should go to the emergency room. Thank you for your concern about him but the coaching staff was not neglegent where he was concerned.

Anonymous said...

He's certified in PE and Health. If he was or is getting paid as a VP, he holds no certification for that position. Don't know if he's ever taught a class. What a scary thought if he did.

I have one more response to 8:05 am. Are you seriously comparing a kids life to a cross country meet. I understand everyone has their point of view and people get angry and upset if things don't their way, but to compare such a tragic event to being present at a cross country meet. I have to say I sit through the trial and supported the families involved and it is not something to be thrown around in comparison to a cross country meet attendance. If your kids every make a bad choice 8:05am you had better hope that you have a coach that will be there as a character witness for them. kr

KR as a outsider reading this blog,You are the only one that seems to really know what you are talking about. rest sounds like sour grapes from people that did not get what they wanted. From what I have seen Alvord's TAKS scores are some of the highest in the county

Those sour grapes are just as bitter on the BLIND side of the fence.

Ladies and Gentleman:
Like a nose, most everyone has an opinion. But this line of discussion, accusation, innuendo, and smear has no place in the educational process of our young people. And like it or not, public comments about ANY school become part of the educational process, regardless of the forum. So please, whether you are a tax payer, parent, school employee, or individual looking to cause a stir, consider the young people and the effect your comments will have on them today AND tomorrow.
Thank you,

Can we all say AMEN?

Mr. Wood

Your point is valid to some extent.

However, 7 young ladies fought their way to the Regional Cross Country meet after you and the AD decimated their program (two of their faster runners fled the Chaney climate)and put them in the hands of a young (but showing signs of being a young Enis)coach instead of their very experienced former coach.

It appears to me that as a board member (worrying about kids futures) you would expect, no demand, that these seven young ladies be supported by their AD and their campus principal.

Neither happened. The young ladies were not supported and the young coach was not supported by his AD or his campus principal.

It is noble indeed for you to be for "love and world peace" but you were elected to serve kids and teachers.

So for you have failed as badly as the AD and the principal.

Your point is valid, except for one small detail. Mr. Wood voted in favor of keeping the old coach.

I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But also as adults and parents I believe that everyone should share their identity and not hide behind "anonymous". From what i have read over the past 6 months everyone who enters a comment is very passionate about their views but it seems that no one really wants people to know who they are. Like I said everyone is entitled to their opinion, but why hide behind an anonymous identity. KR

Could it be because we have all seen what happens when you disagree with the lynch mob? You get smeared, lied about, black-balled and run out of town. It's easy for you to sign your name, you're the mob princess.

If the coach set off insecicide (?) in a locker room full of kids clothes then the kids must have had to put these clothes back on when they came back in from outside? Did anyone wash those contaminated clothes before the kids put them back on? This sounds very dangerous to me. That toxic spray or fog can lead to serious problems evn later in life. Is that coach still there? I hope he was fired immideatly! There is no telling what can come from that kind of poisoning! Was he fired?

Crystal Carroll said...

I have left my voice unheard on here, but I think Kim is correct, someone else over the summer said something similar to just that, you should "own your post" by putting your name on it... i think kevin wood is to be commended that he at least represented himself and attempted to put out some of the fires that have been going on within this message board.. unfortunately like with everything else even if he voted the way that you are protesting for you still are not happy with his comments, even if he was on your side with that issue... i realize it hurts a lot for the girls, but talking about it on the message board solves nothing at all... the only way you can make a positive reflection of what you feel and believe as citizens is to talk to the superintendent, meet with the school board members, do things like this.. this board is merely venting at other people who are not even from Alvord and potentially casting a darker shadow on the community which is in a fragile time... i don't know if you are aware of this, but should you search for Alvord on some search engines this blog comes up... if a potential educator happen to look into the school before they apply and see this mess, do you think that encourages them to move forward and get in the middle of the hornets nest? i personally would not want to have to jump into the middle of it and it would shy me away... now if even a quarter of the amazing educator hopefuls for Alvord's future feel the same way, we are in fact hurting our children even more so in the long run by the venting actions on this board...i realize sports are king in the small community but education has to come first and anything to jeopardize that becomes a problem much bigger than what you have mentioned on this board... jeopardizing the education does not effect a single group, it has no gender barriers.. instead it hurts the entire student body and the district... let's try to keep it a little more positive and work our way through the proper channels rather than venting about all our dislikes on here... i think everyone owes that to the kids especially in these times...

Anonymous said...

"i personally would not want to have to jump into the middle of it and it would shy me away"

Then why did you chose a side early in the game instead of just printing the facts.

"i realize it hurts a lot for the girls"

Your actions indicate that this is not your true concern. When was the last time the Gazette was at a girl's event?

"unfortunately like with everything else even if he voted the way that you are protesting for you still are not happy with his comments, even if he was on your side with that issue.."

WHAT?????

Just words......no substance

Anonymous said...

Crystal - you really should be ashamed of yourself for what you have done. You hide under ths umbrella of "free speech" in the local paper, yet your words are very biased. The article referring to the missing "link" - Is the link that is gone, the coach, or one of the 3 girls that left? You are not a very good writer, but that could be overlooked if you really wanted our community to heal. But I forget you only print what Lynn and Danny tell you to. This will end and those of you that relish in power at at the expense of family's and kids, will be nobody.

Anonymous said...

um, was that coach let go? surely he is not still coaching or teaching right? Im not from Alvord or around but it seems to me he should have been fired. I think you people have a mess there.

Anonymous said...

Nope, not let go. Hard to believe, isn't it?
But that's the way things go here. After-all, wouldn't want to hack the guy off, he's part of the lynch mob. (And, your boy won't see the field either.)

Crystal Carroll said...

6:55 (odd that I must call you that instead of addressing you by name, but I guess by hiding behind such an ambiguous title assures that you are not "retaliated against", because afterall everyone wants to waste precious hours doing that)

But back to my point, quite frankly I am happy you have an opinion as to my writing style. It is always good to hear what people have to say. I pose the question however, do you not like the way I cover stories because I "leave out your side" which by the way, I cannot print things which will pose liability issues. Or do you not like my writing style because you feel as though it is lacking in other ways.

If it is indeed the first, I can understand that you upset and acting on emotion. However if it is indeed the second, I believe there is a disconnect that should be addressed slightly. Far beyond the walls of small Alvord I work within the realm of writing, with no conflict to be heard. My coverage is similar, my writing style the same and yet in only Alvord does anyone seem to object.

Now no offense, but those who address me merely as time signature are not making me lose sleep at night.

While throughout my time in Alvord I have heard little complaint until these past few months, I have greatly enjoyed my work, put hundreds of miles on my own vehicles, many times on my own dime, supported ALL Alvord activities and attempted to cover the positive to bring about positivity within the community instead of running the dirty headlines which do nothing but destroy. There are a lot of things which could be said and I have not said them because they were not going to bring about anything positive over the past few years, not just with this issue.

I have never flown a flag for someone, I will never fly a flag for someone. I support all those who teach, coach and are parents but moreso I support the kids. They are the ones who have been put in the middle.

My point of my post before merely said that we need to think of their educations. Feelings get hurt, sometimes people play sports while other times they don't but education is constant no matter how the sporting landscape works out.

I have seen a lot of comments which have bordered on flying a flag at the expense of naming children's names. I personally have a problem with putting names of students all over the place to support a cause. Furthermore when someone had mentioned too much and apparently been censored they then began masking names but with the same implication. This is a big example of what is wrong with this situation. Rather than going about things in the correct manner the kids have been forced into the issues even more by these actions. Take for example the false statements about the football player above, all misinformed comments.

In an ideal world everyone could just kiss and make up or whatever other phrases could be cliche enough to put in the same state of mind, but we don't live in an ideal world. Instead we continue to be upset and will have a long road ahead.

I just hope 6:55 that you at least understand a little more that part of the problem is making accusations and statements such as "not a good writer" and "only print what Lynn and Danny tell you to" that your lack of education on the matter is part of the reason the wounds stay open. Open your eyes and realize that no one is pulling my strings making me dance and do what they would like. People in a small community are friends, they do know one another and talk at games or in random places like the grocery store, just because you know someone doesn't mean they are manipulating your response to situations.

I never took a side, I sat in silence and saw how bad everyone hurt. I wrote what I wrote because it was supported in the way it was and can be documented. If you base your opinions of my collective works on your own emotional response and draw conclusions painting me to be a puppet, then sorry Mr. or Mrs. perhaps Ms. Anonymous, you are very wrong and you obviously do not know I am a strong independent woman with my own mind, opinions and abilities.

Anonymous said...

My! Yes, emotions seem to be running very high. I just don't understand what emotions have to do with anything when people are looking at employees of a school district. Either they are doing their job or they are not. Either they are protecting the kids and putting their safety first or they are not. Coaches either win or they do not. These are what people need to base hiring/firing on, not emotional issues. I recall the "old" coach who recently left has a phenonminal record in Alvord. I don't believe the AD has the same. I don't believe the AD was putting the children's safety first by "covering" staph problems in the athletic depts and then by endangering them more by exposing them to a toxic fog DURING SCHOOL HOURS! (Shouldn't that have been done when the building was empty?) How many more times of covering/exposing the kids to dangerous infection or chemicals does an employee get before someone says it is enough? I'd bet a hourly employee would have been fired immediately for such an action. How many more years of poor records and no teaching before taxpayers say they are tired of their money taking care of a "friendly" coach?
Emotions are part of human nature, but running a business/school takes a tough hand, one that can let those who do not do their jobs go. Especially one who does not hold their athletes safety as a priority. Keep sending him Christmas cards and stay buddies, but find someone who will DO THE JOB RIGHT! Common sense is not emotional.

"I pose the question however, do you not like the way I cover stories because I "leave out your side" which by the way, I cannot print things which will pose liability issues. Or do you not like my writing style because you feel as though it is lacking in other ways."

We don't like your writing because you CAN"T WRITE honey. The above is a perfect example. You pose questions w/o question marks. Your grammar is horrible and most of the time we can't understand the facts because you install your dramatic run-on sentences with your biased opinions in them.

"Far beyond the walls of small Alvord I work within the realm of writing, with no conflict to be heard. My coverage is similar, my writing style the same and yet in only Alvord does anyone seem to object."
There's no "conflict" because no one reads it but Alvord. Why would anyone else bother?
"I have heard little complaint until these past few months, I have greatly enjoyed my work, put hundreds of miles on my own vehicles, many times on my own dime, supported ALL Alvord activities and attempted to cover the positive to bring about positivity within the community instead of running the dirty headlines which do nothing but destroy."

The reason you are just now hearing complaints is because you stood up at a board meeting, and voiced your one sided opinion, which was "You are just hurting the boys program!" You have no reguard to what these girls are going through. As someone said before, when was the last time the Gazette was at a girls event? You guys just wait for all the parents to give you their snap shots and use other newspaper's stories to create your own. That's not coverage or concern.
As far as the "dirty headlines" - Life isn't always pretty and neither is the news. If it happens, negative or positive, it needs to be printed. That way, maybe some people will read your paper instead of looking at the WC paper for the facts.

"your lack of education on the matter is part of the reason the wounds stay open."

Look in the mirror when yu say that. It might sink in.
And one more observation - "Take for example the false statements about the football player above, all misinformed comments."
There were hundreds of people at that game that saw what happened, how it happened and have come to a conclusion as to why it happened. Misinformed? No. See if the AD will cough up the tape and see for yourself.
