Time Magazine Just Landed On My Desk

It's finally here. You know, if you look at any of those pundits (conservative and liberal) who break down the electoral college, it doesn't look like there's any way Obama can lose this thing. And that's the first time I've said that. And regarding that prayer time tonight at First Baptist, I suppose it's OK to pray that God's will be done. And I guess a person could pray for a McCain victory if it be God's will and still be on firm First Baptist ground. But can you just go in there and pray for a McCain victory because that's what you want? I mean, you can but is it theologically sound?

From your statement Barry, You don't know the Bible very well do you?

I think its ok for people to pray for a victory, one way or the other. That has been going on for a long time, and nothings wrong with it. If you have a church service and pray for one candidate or the other, you would be jeopardizing the church's tax exempt status, which is ok with me too. Keep the politics and religion separate.

Don't stir up the Baptists. They will bring down the thunder on you.

What's the over/under on the amount of cities that will have riots or looting after the election ( Win or Loss )? I predict 5 cities at least!

Anonymous said...

Go aheasd and stir up the Baptists. We are all fixing to be facing east anmyway. Bout the time he gets all of our guns taken up, gets his police force in place, and opens the gate for immigrants.
If you want to argue with this position please do so. But please first explain why Obama says in HIS book that in time of trouble, he will stand with the Muslims. If you want to flame my post, fine. But explain, his own words please.

Hey Jethro
Site the page # from the above mentioned book.

Hey 10:26, FYI a church can pray for whomever they darn well please without jeopardizing their tax exempt status. The IRS cannot dictate the subject of prayers the last time I looked at the tax code.

Would it be Ok to pray that Pelosi, Reid and Obama get so crossways in their rush to adopt every socialist idea proposed in the last 50 years that they get nothing done? (if we use the last 2 years as a guide of their accomplishments, it would be possible)

Or how about prayers for the health of justices Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts so they can strike down as much of what is passed as possible.

It is still OK to pray in church, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

Of course, you're NOT supposed to pray for what YOU want in these situations. How selfish is that?

I'm attempting to prepare myself if Obama is elected so I have a question. Now take your time with an answer, I probably have about two years before I am required to do anything. Which way am I suppose to face when looking at Mecca? I get mixed up with directions and don't want to look the wrong way. For instance, I would hate for my big ole fat butt to be facing Mecca at the improper time, when the muslim chant starts from the courthouse. Just axskin!

I'd like to know the views of people about the Oath taken on The Holy Bible.

If, Hussein Obama does win the presidency he will not take his oath on The Holy Bible, he will take his oath on the Muslim Quran Book.

How do you feel about this?

Anonymous said...

10:19/11:18
Is it that hard to check actual facts before you start spreading total fabrications, especially about a book you admit you have not bought? The statement "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction" does not actually appear in the book. Rather, it is a rewording of a passage on p. 261 in which Obama spoke of the importance of not allowing inflamed public opinion to result in innocent members of immigrant groups being stripped of their rights, denied their due as American citizens, or placed into confinement, as was done with Japanese-Americans during WWII. The actual passage contains no specific mention of "Muslims."

Here's the actual quote:

In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani AMERICANS, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

Barry, we don't really know how FBC will handle the prayer vigil tonight.

Personally, I think it is a good idea if folks are not coerced into voting one way or another.

Boy that can alienate folks in a hurry.

11:58 - Obama us not a Muslim - you must be one of those brilliant 23% of Texans that think he is. Unbelievable! You guys make Texas a laughing stock for the rest of the nation.

Here's a joke - I heard it on late night TV -

Barak Obama sat in a pew at Rev. Wright's United CHurch of Christ for 20 years, which makes him a Muslim.
John McCain doesn't go to church, which makes him a Christian.

Hardy Har Har

Seriously, make up your mind when judging Obama - are you going to bash him for being a member of Rev. Wright's church for 20 years? Or you going to claim he's a Muslim?

Oh, I know - you'll do both.

His oath on the Quran will be 100% more accurate than George Bush's oath on a STACK OF BIBLES.

Has EVERYONE forgot about the last eight years and we want to vote in McSame? Mr. I voted 90% of the time with George W ... McSame ???

Congressman Keith Ellison, the first Muslim to be elected to Congress, took his oath office using the Koran. He used a Koran that belonged to Thomas Jefferson. Guess Mr. Jefferson didn't get the memo on Islam in America.

If an elected official's religion is such a contentious issue, it may be best just to do away the holy-book oath altogether.

I'm not tired of the election coverage, I'm tired of the ignorance and racism which has become so apparent since Obama became the Democratic nominee. He stands for change, and that's what everyone is scared of- oh and that little box beside African-American that's checked.

McCain says he's pro-life, but "he's glad young girls aren't having to obtain abortions illegally because of the health risks." Oh and he does think abortions should be legal in the case of rape, incest, or risks to the mother's life. Umm, that means he's pro-choice. Oh and he doesn't want to legalize same sex marriage, but he does think same sex partners should have the same rights as married couples.

I'm sure the continued racism in America is much more of a dissapointment to God than if we elect a Democrat. And besides, if Obama is elected, it is God's will.

Anonymous said...

12:48 - so true. Bush - ah such a dedicated Christian...before he was elected he bragged about his ties with the "elite" of the Christian community - namely James Robison and the likes.

Bush and Rove USED the Christian community to get the Republican party into control.

Spare me from that kind of Christians. And some of THEM are the ones spreading this Muslim crap about Obama. Shame on them!

Glad Bush and ilk are about gone.

None of this will make a shit anyway. The Congress and Senate will still be for sale, whether it is Republican, Democrat, or Muslim. The President aint gonna do shit cause he is paid off too. Lobbyists win, life goes on. Joe Biden has had 29 different refinance mortgages thru Countrywide on a 3 million dollar house and he makes 135k per year. Hussien Obama has kinfolk in this country living illegaly, off of the government tit.

Bush is NOT a liar. If he was, he would have planted weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
I think William "i did not have sex with that woman" Clinton might have been a liar.

I swore I wouldn't get caught up in today's weirdness, but I can't help myself.

1:25 - What exactly is Obama going to "change?" And whatever it is, what will it change to? These are questions he hasn't answered, and his supporters can't answer. Obama's history -- what his campaign has not erased or scrubbed -- indicates that he prefers a collectivist/socialist economy, rather than free enterprise. Obama voted that babies who survive abortion should be allowed to die rather than intrude on the mother's "choice." There's more, but that's a couple of things I disagree with Obama about. What's your response?

And yes, there is racism in America. Racism is an unfortunate but universal part of the human condition. (See Spike Lee's School Daze if you don't believe me.) But no other nation in history has done more to combat racism than America. It is foolish and blind to try to single out America as an "example" of racism.

12:48 - Name something specific about the "last eight years" that you are condemning Bush for. That seems to be nothing more than a convenient shorthand phrase for "I'm a Democrat." America has not been attacked on its own soil in seven years. The economy recovered quickly after 9/11 and continued to grow for several years. The housing mess can be attributed to lack of regulation and oversight, which Democrats fought (which has been well documented.) All in all, except for increased partisanship (due mainly to Democrats and the media,) Bush has had a rather successful presidency.

As for McCain being part of the "same," Obama voted with Democrat leaders 97% of the time. There is no instance of him crossing party lines or reaching out to the other side. Yet he's called the candidate of "change." Why? Could it be because propaganda works?

1:25, you prove the point of the Democrats using the race card. It has nothing to do with his race but has everything to do with his associates, lack of experience, flip-flops, half truths and socialistic views. I didn't say he was a socialist, don't go jump on that. I said socialistic views. You people piss and moan about change yet no one can explain it. You want change, get rid of that heap of crap Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the others who have been in charge for the last two years. Oh yea, if your boy wins the White House you better pull your 401k, Nancy and Harry want to begin taxing it.

Theologically speaking, there is no authority except that which God has established, and all Christians are to submit themselves to the governing authorities (Romans 13:1).Yes, obedient Christians will submit to their authorities because ultimately this honors and glorifies God, the ultimate authority. We as Americans have lived a blessing unparalled by any other nation in this world's history. We have benefited from the fore sight of our founders to operate under the Judeo/Christian code of law, which has no rival in it's protection of an individual's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have honored God in our founding documents, in our pledges and songs,on our government buildings, and even on our money. None of this has MADE God bless us, it has just been the result of His perfect will. But our forefathers believed strongly in honoring His sovereignty.

Also, theologically, it is God's will that believers know His Word, pray in all things, and trust Him with all of your heart. If through this we know Him intimately, then His will and ours will be the same.

First Baptist won't be the only ones praying. And whether you ascribe to the theology of this or not, no one can deny that the act of sincere corporate prayer for God's involvement in this election will be the only honest and constructive action that has taken place during this entire election.

Prayer vigils are not uncommon in the Christian community. It is hope that most the the prayer will be confessional so that God will bless and hear their suplications.

I doubt any prayer asking for anointment for either of these two characters running will go much higher than the ceiling.

God's word in repleat with account after account of using God-fearing and God-less men to accomplish his purpose.

My largest fear is that we will get the man we as a nation deserve!

Obama supports abortion and considers babies born to unwed mothers punishment. My religion is Christian and my God does not allow abortion. So, Christians can pray to their God to give us a president who does not believe in killing 20 week old humans.

Voting2x said...

I would consider myself a pretty religious person but don't see where God has put His stamp of approval on our country. We are a nation made up of many different religions and many people are Christian. If we would all talk and act Christ-like, maybe more people would join the Christian walk. That said, I really don't believe God cares who wins the election but He does care about how I act, what I say and the things I do. Neither candidate will make me a stronger or weaker Christian and the policies and rules made by the Democrats and Republicans cannot affect my relationship with Christ. Only I can do that. While the "separate religion and politics" line is tiresome (can one separate their thoughts and ideas from what they truly believe?), I may be even more weary of some Christians who seem to abdicate their responsibility to government. Does it matter if our kids pray in school if mom and dad aren't praying at home, aren't studying the Bible? I could go on and on. I'm pulling for McCain because I don't like the idea of someone telling me I have to redistribute what I have - I prefer the Republican way of just slipping it in quietly.

WELL WHADDAYA KNOW...

Sarah Palin has been cleared of ethics violations in the so-called "troopergate" scandal.

Of course, the report is released after being in the headlines for two months, and repeated so often in Democrat talking points that the report's conclusion is irrelevant -- the public has already made up its mind about the matter. I wonder if the media knew that running the story for several weeks would have an impact on the election, hmmm?

Gosh, I wonder if the media has as much curiosity about the video of Obama that the LA Times has in its possession, or the reason Barack "my brother's keeper" Obama has relatives living in squalor, or the names of all the "anonymous" contributions to his campaign....maybe we'll find out after the election. That kind of stuff needs thoughtful, quiet deliberation before it makes the news, y'know.

If Obama wins, I think buyer's remorse is going to set in pretty quickly.

(In related news, Tom Delay is still awaiting trial on the charges that prosecutor Ronnie Earle pursued, needing multiple grand juries to get the result he wanted. Torquemada had nothing on Democrat prosecutors during political campaigns.)

Anonymous said...

Barry, if Obama wins do you know if we can start getting our free stuff, checks, and free health care immediately or do we have to wait until he is castrated, I mean inaugarated?
Obama is saying he is going to "cut" my taxes. I have never had to pay any taxes, does that mean I can get some extra stuff for free?
Can I get free stuff when I vote tomorrow?
If Obama does not win can you help me file a lawsuit or something cause I want him to win, I got some cousins in Kenya and I heard he can get them in here, no problemo.
