This "church", along with MANY others, should have it's tax exempt status removed.

Hope this does'nt screw up the new Batman movie?

It's stuff like this that keeps me out of church. Don't get me wrong I belive in God but I don't need a church full of people to tell me how or what to belive.

Now there's a good rant! To wit; I kinda know what they meant, but don't understand it at the same time.
Maybe our salvation from these cretins is their psychotic hatred. Their rage keeps them from being clear headed enough to cogently get their message across.

Anonymous said...

By saying that Heath Ledger is in hell, is that passing judgment on someone?
Barry, you are 100% right, that church is very crazy!

Anonymous said...

You think they're crazy, but they're just saying what every Wise Countian is thinking right now. The two-faced people are scarier than this.

I really wish you would remove this post! How sad is this world today. I pray for Ledgers family - my he rest in peace. Let God be the only Judge in the End. I pray for the Crazy Church and again ask you to remove this sad post. You can replace it with one of your .......I love me some--cute girl in skimpy outfit!!

This so called Baptist Church will be the one's who suffer the wrath of God. I understand that the freedom of speech admendment allows them the ability to protest, but come on this is not the time or the place, when a family is grieving the loss of their son.

To all the young hot female fans in mourning:
Send in money and Heath Ledger will be forgiven for his gayness, rescued from the gates of hell and sent to heaven to await your eternal arrival.

Yes! That church is deranged BIGTIME!! And they will surely rot in hell for bearing FALSE WITNESS to something they know nothing about.

Heath Ledger was not a queer. He had a live-in girlfriend and a 2-year old daughter. Not even the Enquirer ever accused him of trolling the gay scene or making out with guys. He PLAYED THE ROLE of a queer cowpoke in Brokeback Mountain and that does not make him one.

Just one more example of an extremist church counter-culture out to make more money by creating an issue where there isn't one.

Now wait a minute.......Is there 2 judges in life now? How come nobody told me that WBC have the power to JUDGE a person and condem them TO HELL? Does PLAYING A HOMO CONDEM SOME ONE TO HELL? I guess SLY and all the others ACTORE that KILL people in the movies will also GO TO HELLLLLLLL!!!! AND ALL THE CHEATERS AND SEX that they are acting!LOL

Anonymous said...

Yes, clearly if you go to their church it's ok to stand in judgement of other people. I thought only the Lord got to judge others....this is disturbing!

Anonymous said...

That web site really exists!! I thought it was some horrible joke until I pulled it up.

How can anyone spew forth such hate in the name of God? I can only be glad that the church is not located in Wise County. We have enough problems.

Jehosephat said...

Special delivery to 9:27 - Uhh...excuse me but there are many Baptist churches in Wise County. They are all over the place! (Checking Yellow Pages)

Anonymous said...

You know...I had to explain to my children that what happens on tv and in the movies is not "real". They are all under the age of 10 and they understood it, should I break it down for this "church" as well?

As my 8 year old would say "Duh".

Oh....and don't forget to include a prayer request.(snort!)

Actually, I prefer the Landover Baptist Church myself.

DDM, Plz don't equate these nuts with all other churches. There are lunatics in every group.

Anonymous said...

This sounds like a cult, not a church. They must have skipped the verses in the Bible that discussed judgment, and that being a Christian and TRULY believing God died for your sins is what gets you into Heaven. Not your "status." Plus, I agree with an earlier posting, this guy was an actor! He didn't live on Brokeback mountain in real life!

Anonymous said...

Wondring...and confused! Doesn't the main man ... Pope ... board of directors ... president ... mahoof ... whatever of the Baptist Church have some call over what is preached in places called "Baptist"? If there is any kind of leadership over this denomination, why isn't there some official condemnation of such a stupid, venomous outburst of this kind? Can't anyone banish that sect and remove from them the name "Baptist" or are all Baptist churches allowed to go for anything an insane minister might come up with? All of this in the name of FAITH...and millions of $$$$$$$$ This is surely an outburst that could give all Baptists a bad name and they should have some means of dealing with it.

Anonymous said...

The thoughtful members of that church (if there are any) should picket the church for it's horrific judgemental attitude.

God will judge this man who died......not that self righteous bunch.

No wonder folks stay away from churches like that.

Shame on them. Shame!

Anonymous said...

I have one thing to say about the leader of that flock of sheep ... GET A ROPE!

Anonymous said...

I find it ironic that "Christians" in general are the first to judge in almost any situation. It seems that Christianity has become something of convenience. This church obviously does not represent all Christians, however, I have seen hypocrisy like no other in the church.

Gorilla said...

9:55 - Landover must be really whacked-out too - my employer has that website blocked!

Anonymous said...

jehosephat, live-in girlfriend? Wouldn't that be living in sin? And his daughter was born out of wedlock! BURN THE HERETIC!

Anonymous said...

Indeed, a sad state of affairs, both the death and the church. There is only one judgement, and that comes from no church, only God. If this offends some, so be it. People living in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones, only blessings for the departed, they live in a better place now.

Please pray for the family remaining.

10:27 I have come to the conclusion that everyone is a hypocrit to varying degrees, but some are much more honest about their hypocrisy than others. Also, the further one moves away from the love of Christ, the greater is the tendency to condemn, judge, criticize, etc.

The WBC has been around a while. It's not an associated Baptist Church. It's a "church" led by a nut-case fanatic and all of the members are his family. They're the one's who gained notoriety by protesting and spewing their filth at military funerals. For anyone to associate them as a typical "church" or "baptists" is ludicrous.

House of R & R said...

10:27 I agree.

Fred Phelps is the leader of these morons although he has been sidelined with Parkinsons. His daughter who had at least one child outside of marriage is running the show.
Want to see something creepy? Find video of them together or even her talking about him and tell me there isn't some weird vibes there! Definitely daddys little girl action goin down in Topeka Kansas.

Anonymous said...

10:56 - That really didn't answer my questions. Their name says -- "Baptist Church". Is there no headquarters empowered to maintain some kind of ethics or rules that represent the standards of that church? That they have been around for a long time implies consent to, or worse, support of such behavior. As an "outsider", I can only suppose that is the case with all Baptist churches.

Anonymous said...

Nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevant or consequential. Wonder why they are so worked up about him then?

Anonymous said...

Their leader is a disbarred lawyer from the state of Mississippi! What does that tell you?

Anonymous said...

This is a sick joke just as the Landover Baptist Church website.

Anonymous said...

The Landover site is of course a spoof meant to be an answer to these kooks, funny thing is it can't look ALL that much crazier than the real thing so people confuse them or think one is an offshoot of the other.

Starting to think there's 2 ways to handle monsters like these, either stab them in the face as hard as you can, or ignore them entirely.

Denney Crane said...

10:27 AM

You don't think there are false Christians out there? You don't think there are people out there just waiting for the chance to give Christians a bad name? Religion is a convenience, Christianity is a faith and way of life...it should be fairly easy to differentiate between the two.

I don't agree with your statement, "This church obviously does not represent all Christians, however, I have seen hypocrisy like no other in the church."

I don't know of any other sect more deviant from it's theology of the Koran than the radicals of the Islam faith. But I could be wrong.

Anonymous said...

I think Denny points out something (possibly unintentionally) that there are deviant nut cases in all religions - including Islam. That's why some of you Christians who criticize the WBC should also realize that "radical" Muslims don't represent ALL other Muslims.

M&M said...

10:16 I don't think there is any governing body or person. A baptist church has the option to belong to a baptist convention and if they do they have to abide by and teach the doctrines and policies of that convention. Otherwise, if they are independent of a convention, they can believe and teach what they want.

Anonymous said...

1:01 - Thanks! As long as the neme isn't registered, I think I will go out and set me up a nice little Baptist Church.

Anonymous said...

To Johosephat: I didn't say there were no Baptist Churches in Wise County. I was referring to this particular church when I stated that I was glad that it was not in Wise County,.

THAT CHURCH NEEDS TO BE CLASSIFIED WITH VICTORY FAMILY CHURCH

Anonymous said...

10:56 WBC is showing their ignorance, but in an effort to remove yours, This is a rogue "church" that has chosen to include the word Baptist in it's name. It has no affiliation with any recognized Baptist Convention. Even Baptist churches that are aligned with a convention still have the right of self governence, meaning there is no pope, chairman, Imam, or Grand Lizard that appoints each church's pastor or tells them who should be in leadership. So apparently all the enlightened people that believe that the Baptist denomination is the most dogmatic of organized religions, are guilty of ignorantly labeling a group for the actions of a few. If that is viable logic, then ALL white people are hate mongering Klansmen, whether they are conservative or liberal.

And Barry, doesn't that make you guilty of blindly promoting a prejudice against a whole group because of the action of a few, of trying to cause fear through misinformation? Watch out or someone will mistake you for one of those radical right wing Evangelicals that are so good at that tactic.

Think Frustrated said...

Um, but was he gay? I think not, he just plays one in the movies. I love how sensitive and humanistic some Christians are.

gern blansten said...

Just my two cents worth:

Barry, a post like this doesn't do anyone any good - except getting people to read your blog. The hatred spewed forth in this subject toward other people (especially Christians) is appalling. But then, it's your blog...

For those of you out there who do or don't profess to be Christians, PLEASE DON'T LUMP US IN with this group of quacks. God is the one true Judge, and this church is so blindly ignorant that they are way, way off the path Jesus wants Christians to take. Matthew 22:37-40 says the two greatest commandments are to
1. Love God with all your heart, sould and mind, and
2. LOVE EACH OTHER as yourself.
When those who call themselves Christians get wrapped up in anything else other than those two things, they need to stop and take a look at where they're at, and make some changes.

Also, FYI, there are several different organizations who call themselves "Baptist", including Southern Baptist Convention, American Baptist Associaton and Bible Baptist Association, just to name a few. The word "Baptist" is typically only a sign of the basic beliefs that some churches have, just like Church of Christ Churches and Assembly of God churches. Incidentally, there are both concervative and liberal factions in all Baptist organizations, especially the Southern Baptist Convention.

I don't quite agree w/blasting Barry for posting the church notice (bulletin?). It's shocking; it begs for commentary. I would've posted it too...I mean, hell, he called the church "crazy."

Now, on the notice itself? Hateful, hateful stuff. And, it makes the authors look like morons; Heath Ledger wasn't gay...he "lived in sin" and had an illegitimate child w/Michelle Williams. He pretended to be gay for a film role. I guess they'll be picketing Hillary Swank's funeral (Boys Don't Cry) too? What about Brad Pitt's and George Clooney's? Hell, they played thieves in at least three movies.

Hateful people just look stupid and ignorant. Whether it's in the name of God or otherwise...

Over 50 hits! Is this a new record?

I hope people who read this and are angered by the stance of one church won't judge all churches by that standard.

All the churches I have attended had at least one sinner present. If they are going to kick me out because I've done things in opposition to God's will, so be it but they will need to turn the mirror on themselves.

I'm fortunate to attend a church that hates sin but realizes that everyone there needs the grace of God, not the judgment of other sinners.

House of R & R said...

If these wackos are quoting actual scriptures from the bible on this flier doesn't everyone who claims to be a Christian read the same bible and believe the same scriptures? I am interested to know what a "normal" Christian would interpret these scriptures to mean.

Please add "For the Bible Tells Me So" to your Netflix queue. The Bible has been used as a tool of hate for a 1000 years.

I no longer attend church, because I cannot get past the hate.

Whatever happened to, "God is love?"

Anonymous said...

This may be a really stupid question but....what are they trying to accomplish by picketing a funeral?

The man is already dead and I'm guessing they will go ahead and bury him...picketers or not.

Anonymous said...

Guess the Bible was just meant for guys, since reading that as a woman would indicate that you should not lie with a man but rather with a woman. In that, I guess a "strict" and "faithful" interpretation of God's holy word would mean all women should be lesbians.

Anonymous said...

Have there ever been any Christians who acted in movies in which a sin was portrayed? Stealing, murder, unfaithfulness? I mean, what celebrity death would these people NOT want to picket if their basis is actors who portrayed something sinful? Think any members of this church engage in anything at all other than the missionary position?

Anonymous said...

9:54,huh? you just mumbled something I couldn't quite understand.

Anonymous said...

The passage of scripture the church uses to commit the dead guy to hell says you should not lay with a man as you would a woman. It promotes lesbianism, if taken as written. (and aren't we supposed to?)

Anonymous said...

That's quite a stretch,but if that's what you need to believe-rock on.

Anonymous said...

If you are honestly wanting to apply some logical deduction to that verse my guess would be we'd have to assume it would be a no-no for the girls also.

House of R & R said...

9:58 From what I saw on the documentary of this crazy church, (good times - you have to see it to believe it) they don't get too excited over anyone stealing, committing a murder, or being unfaithful. Their main focus is someone acting, living, etc. as a so called "fag" (their words). They also believe that the present war is punishment from God due to all the "fags" in the world. That's why they picket military funerals. The link to this flier (thank you BG for stealing my glory-if you did) contains www.godhatesfags.com.

9:05 - you do have a good point. In Wise County, you have too many church choices. These days it's either a "feel good" church, or one that beats you down so much you feel like you've already entered hell's gates.

Sheesh.

NOT!!!

I played Satan in a church play when I was a kid. I guess when I die these folks will picket my funeral and rejoice in the death and punishment of me and my evilness.

Naw, gays are the WBC target. They picket soldiers funerals because God is angry at America for their acceptance of the homosexual. Unfortunatly, WBC are not the only'Christians' spewing such hate. Jerry Fawell on 700 Club after 9/11 blamed homosexuals, ACLU,feminists and other groups. Pat Robertson agreed with him. Most churches have some 'Christians' who believe the same, sitting in their pews every Sunday.

Anonymous said...

1:02 P.M. WBC is only interested in homosexuals as their targets to picket. They picket heterosexual soldiers funerals because 'God is angry at America for accepting homosexuals'. Unfortunately, they are not the only 'Christians' who feel this way.
