Skiing Is Dangerous

That's American downhill skier Scott Macartney crashing at the World Cup at Kitzbuehel, Austria yesterday. He's doing fine and is expected to make a full recovery. And his helmet tracking him down was insult to injury.

Ewwwwwwww.....that twitching at the end freaked me out. He looked like donor material to me right then. Glad he's OK, apparently.

Thankfully the fall was close enough to the finish line. At least he didn't embarass U.S. Americans by failing to finish.

That'll leave a nasty looking rash on his face. Those downhill runs are solid ice.

What's up with a helmet that flies off on impact? Any skiers out there wanna borrow my Arai? They stay put at much harder impact than that.

Yeah, they don't explain why he was having a seizure at the end. It was creepy to see him limply sliding along the snow. It also looked like to took too much time for someone to go help him. At least the (Germans? Austrians?) were kind enough to cut the shot away when he started spasming.

I guess being knocked cold caused the spasms. The helmet may have flown off after impact, but it probably saved him from a severe to fatal head injury--he really whipped his head into the ice when he hit! OUCH!!
