Paradise ISD is the first one out of the blocks with school news saying it will open at 10:00 a.m.
Not to dog the great Paradise ISD, but that's a goofy announcement. If the ice comes in like the forecast says it will, they'll have to change it to "closed." This early announcement will just cause confusion.
(Credit: Sheriff David Walker for sending along the school news. But the "goofy" opinion is all mine. He loves Paradise ISD.)

The reason the Sheriff if on top of the news in Paradise is becasue his step son goes here....he is a good kid.
I hear Paradise is a great school.
What's so goofy? You go to bed knowing your early status and if the ice doesn't come, they get everyone to school by 10:00 and still get the credit for a full day. If there is ice, they've got til 10:00 to make their closed announcement. Sorry to dog you Barry, but if you think that is confusing, then who's the goofy one? Thank you Paradise ISD for taking the lead in the county one more time.
ROFLMAO at 9:57... Umm, yeah... GO Paradise... Take that lead! *snicker*
I had NO idea Paradise has a school district. I thought the children of Paradise attended Boyd schools. It makes sense for Paradise not to want their children to spend 8 hours a day in the Hell that is Boyd schools.
My bad!
Hey Paradise ISD! SUCKERS!!!
Paradise not only has a school district, it is one of the best districts in Wise county.kids from Cottondale also attend the Paradise ISD
7:47 - Congrats to Paradise ISD for being "one of the best in Wise Co"; however, it's comparing using a pretty low bar.
A lot of kids have left Bridgeport to go to Paradise because of it being a better school system!
10:30 Yea, ok...P'dise elementary has been rated exemplary how many years in a row...just because there are other schools in the county with lower ratings doesnt make "the bar low." It means those schools are rated something lower than exemplary. As my 9 year old would say "DUH!"
To address the real issue here, I thought it was silly to delay classes so early on. However I am glad they were concerned enough about their students to take action and not sit on their hands until the last minute.
10:54 - Congrats to P'dise elem for their rating (for whatever it's worth). What happened to the same rating system in the other P'dise schools? How many Nat Merit Scholars? How many advanced placement courses offered? Any International Baccalaureate courses?
Like I said, measuring against a pretty low scale. DUH.
alvord has exemplary rating as well...good school district but too many politics in high school as in any school i guess...and since when did the sheriff get married and acquire a step-son?
I hear that the Sheriff will have a step son if he goes through with the engagement.
I believe that two campuses at Paradise received an exemplary rating. This is not compared to the so called "low bar" of Wise County, but compared to the whole State of Texas. Exemplary is the highest rating.
I also hear that Paradise has a new phone alert system that they were anxious to use. That might explain why they responded so quickly to the doofus weather people.
I'm with 12:22 I know the sheriff and to the best of my knowledge he did not get married. for the schools how many other schools in the area have Nat Merit Scholars, offer advanced placement courses or offer International Baccalaureate courses?
I thought the sheriff was dating that news lady.
to panther dad ii, they did use the phone alert system and it was great I got the message on my cell phone about 6:30 on thursday night.
Uh, no one offers IB courses, few if any have NM Scholars - none regularly, if ever!
DHS offers AP courses.
Sheriff dates a woman long enough to get married to her? Seems like he always has a new one.
According to TEA, http://www.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/account/2007countylist.srch.html
Alvord and Paradise are rated the 2best schools in Wise County.
Might be why Decatur teachers flock to both schools.
Might not be.......
Whoooopie doooo! 2nd in Wise Co is only a relative accomplishment. 2nd in Texas would be noteworthy but still place it in the middle of the nation as a whole. Get real!
10:10:
Regardless of what you think, that is a great accomplishment. Alvord & Paradise accomplished what the other schools in this county didn't. I'm not knocking the other schools, but give credit where credit is due.
