Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • A 26 year old referred to as an amateur photographer fell to his death in downtown Dallas this morning.
  • I completely missed that TxDot is actually going to install a red light on 380 by the Sheriff's Office at the Business 380 exit. To quote Antoine Dodson, "You are so dumb. You are really dumb. For real."
  • Reno (by Springtown) has one police officer who almost shot his pinky off on Monday. The Weatherford Democrat gets kudos for having the headline begin with "Reno 911".
  • I saw where there is a case in the County Court at Law where a guy allegedly exposed himself in the Decatur Walmart on two separate occasions. How did we not hear about that?
  • Switched my jogging routine to mornings when it is way too early to be jogging. It was still in the 80s today before the sun was up.
  • Dave Campbell's Texas Football picks Bridgeport to finish 2nd and Decatur 3rd in the district with Bridgeport wide receiver Garrett Mullins is the magazine’s choice for the district’s Offensive MVP.
  • Climbed up in the attic last night to inspect the AC Unit that is causing condensation to go to the overflow pan.  I'm this close to believing I can unplug the stopped up PVC pipe by taking my handy hacksaw to it and then repairing it.
  • The Soon to Be Third Grader In The House (who was the only one brave enough to go in the attic with me) said, "I think you might want to leave that one to the experts."
  • I was surprised to learn Rick Perry is 61.
  • Heard a conservative talk show host this morning say that Sarah Palin has a "Persecution Complex." Man, that is spot on.
  • The felony docket on July 11th in Wise County has over 100 people on it.
  • One weird thing on the docket is a Boyd teenager, who was originally indicted for Intoxication Manslaughter, is set to plea on three separate cases of DWI With Two or More Prior Convictions. I'm confused by that one.
  • Belen Rodriguez
  • WBAP's Hal Jay asked a guest this morning about this week's Supreme Court ruling overturning the ban on violent video games to minors. "That was a California Supreme Court ruling, right?" the guest asked. "Yes," Hal Jay replied. "Does anyone over there follow the news?" I asked myself.
  • Two teens in Haltom City place "two dead dogs" on a railroad track? Uh, where did two kids who would be so inclined just happen to find two dead dogs?

I think I had the same issue with my AC/PVC pipe. I learned there are two fixes, both unpleasant. If you check your insulated wrapped pipes, one is probably in ice. Turn the AC off and allow it to defrost for about half a day. If that doesn't work, new coils might be needed. But then again, I may have misinterpreted your problem.

Sarah knows exactly what she is doing........laughing all the way to the bank!

If she just had a little gratitude for McCain for rescuing her from Alaska and morphing her into a multi-millionaire.

I would give a paycheck to know what McCain really, REALLY thinks now of his choice and if he understands how negatively it has affected his reputation.

Surgery and a colorist can do wonders for a governor. Sadly it can't do much about character.

I'm with the Soon-To-Be-Third-Grader......call an expert!!! Do not attempt the AC job alone!

Re "persecution complexes" - Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean people aren't out to get you. Simply look at the media assault on the released e-mails a few weeks ago to see if maybe Palin's got good reason to feel persecuted.

Had that stop light been installed, it would have saved me an accident at 380 and Bus380.

I wonder how long the Weatherford Democrat has been waiting for something...anything, to happen in Reno so that they could use that headline

On the topic of home maintenance, sounds like the Soon to Be Third Grader In The House is already smarter than you. Listen to her!

Barry, use a wet/dry vac to suck out the drain pipe on your A/C. It probably just has algae in it. Then, it doesn't hurt to pour a little bleach into the pipe every now and then also.
So easy even a lawyer can do it!

Mr. Mike Honcho said...

Re: the AC problem. Been there and done that. Black algae loves to grow inside those drain pipes. The only reliable cure for it is to routinely pour a bleach solution down the drain pipe. A good way to remember this is to do it the same time you change your filters out on your return air ducts.

Now, once you have the clogged drain line, use a snake or fish tape to carefully force a hole through the algae. It is not that hard to do and will quickly return the drain to flowing. Once it is draining, mix up a 50-50 bleach and water solution and pour it down slowly. Let it sit for an hour and then do it again. A quart or two is the right amount.

Another suggestion, buy some PVC Tees and cut the drain line in a few places and install them. Then, make some PVC risers out of pipe from the TEES and place caps on them, (don't glue the caps on.) Voila. You know can pour bleach down the line in strategic places OR deal with a clog should it persist.

Either way, make sure to resolve it soon, those drip pans aren't made for extended use and if some insulation or anything clogs the drain hole you will have water running off and onto your insulation and sheetrock in the ceiling.

Re: 380. Said it before and will say it again, every major entrance and exit to decatur from 287 and 380 is terrible. Rhome, Alvord, Bowie, Sunset, Haslet... the list goes on of smaller towns with Real entrance and exits onto major highways. Explain to me why Decatur is so screwed up?

Go sit in front of Devon's office if you want to see how terrible adding the red light to 380 will be. And then remember that bus 380 at the Sherriffs office has about 10x the traffic entering 380 that Pleasant View Road does. Enjoy driving in packs of rock haulers doing 30 and 40 mph until the get up to speed at Big Sandy. And try to avoid getting rear ended by them as the light changes and everyone is slamming on the brakes.

DOT? Fail.

Kinda sad, but the reality is that Bridgeport and Decatur just aren't football powerhouses.

For the A/C the pipe is clogged up, if you can pull it off and take a deep breath and blow the blockage out that is all. Once done put a small cap full of bleach down it twice a year and that will prevent the sludge from growing in it. Search the Google there are many tips and videos on how to fix it.

bag of nothin is full of sh$t. barry for pete's sake take a frickin saw and cut the frikin pipe. clean it out and recemtn it with a little frikin pvc glue and collar and save $120. simple as pie.
do it before it leaks on your sheetrock and you have to paint the frikn ceiling . again.

When they renewed 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport, they should have left that off-ramp thing the same for those east bound and wanting to exit onto business 380. It was a 1/4 mile or more before those sitting at the stop sign on business 380, waiting to turn left and proceed westbound on 380. It was much safer. Right now the traffic on the two lanes are blocked by the cars that are in the turn lane turning right onto business 380. They should have left it the same and many accidents and deaths and injuries would have been avoided.

My thoughts exactly, wordkyle. Sarah has more reason than anyone I know to feel persecuted. The lib media are harassing her constantly and picking apart every word she utters. Glad you're back to blogging, by the way. You are the voice of sanity in this otherwise insane venue.

Any news on the investigation into the Bridgeport hospital?
The city has been bailing them out since they exhausted their line of credit with the city.
I wonder how much we have given to them so far?
Will the bleeding ever end?

What is the speed limit where they propose to put the red light? Will this be another red light in a 70 mph zone. Only in Wise County. The TXDOT engineer for Wise County is a complete idiot. Does he get off from how many accidents he can cause through his traffic engineering skills? I am beginning to believe it. Look at how many died at the intersection of SH114 and FM2123 before he was forced to adjust the speed limit.

Unstopping the condensate line is something that real men do. It will take about 30 minutes. You will spend that much time dealing with the air conditioning servce man. Like staying home from work to meet him at the house.

You wimps probably call a plumber when a plunger would fix a stopped up sink.

Anonymous said...

My AC unit did this last year. The pvc pipe on mine runs to to the bathroom sink drain. This is where mine was clogged up. Had to disconnect drain under sink and clean it out. Since you have a house full of females now I suspect this may be your problem. Just as mine was. Females, long hair and sink drains don't work well together.

The Secret Police said...

10:17 It doesn't take an expert to clear a little bitty drainage pipe unless you are one of those "men" that, (how should I put this?) prolly should have been born a female.

Anonymous said...

10:33...I don't ever recall using a plunger on a sink, a toilet but never a sink. I just use my handy dandy little snake thingy! I got the feeling your one of those real men that cause thousands of dollars of damage trying to fix things better left to the pros.

A/C stopped up?.... get the smallest Drain King ( gtwaterproducts.com) ...available at most Hardware/ Home Depots. Works like a hose!.. ;)

A friend recently had the drain line plugged also, turned out it was a large snake. I wish I woulda been there when Pops got that thing to the end of the pipe. He won't admit it, but I know he crapped his britches.

Coolest A/C drain cleaner is the "Gallo Gun" check it out on youtube. They work great.

Anonymous said...

10:55, you use a snake to unstop a sink when a plunger will do it in five seconds? You do need to call a serviceman for minor problems.

Anonymous said...

Secret Police...I built my own house, contracted the parts I couldn't do, did the parts I could...A/C, Electric, Drywall-T/B and Texture, Plumbing. Funny, my condensate line never clogs because of how I installed it. As for being born a female, my wife helped me with a great deal of the work and I would put her up against any weekend DIY'er.

I am a pro, and I get a lot of calls on the weekend..I fell through my attic trying to fix this or that, I don't know what a GFCI is...these calls usually come from real tough guys like yourself. Sure the condensate line is a simple fix, but if you let it go that long chances are the system is ready for a checkup anyway. People have a tendency of letting things around the house go to the point a pro is needed, a quick service call will probably save you mucha $$$ in the long run.

You'll think I'm kidding or lying to make you do something goofy looking, BUT first use an air compressor with a blow attachment and making a tight seal with your hand blow up into the drain pipe and see if it becomes unstopped.
It is actually possible to dislodge the algae by blowing up into the drain with your mouth, but I KNOW you'll think I'm messing with you on that.
Once it drains- Mike is right- pour a diluted bleach solution into the pan every month or two.

Anonymous said...

If the a/c was installed to code then the primary condensate line goes into a wet trap, meaning a trap in one of your sinks or a trap in your laundry. Usually the laundry trap is the choice and it is behind the sheetrock. So you can't get to it without tearing out some sheetrock. The bleach routine may work. When the primary stops up then that is when you see water in the pan and dripping out the line coming out of you attic to a place where it will be noticed. Your evaporator coil may have so much dirt/mold on it that it is falling off and entering the drain. If you call a serviceman be sure to watch him take off the cover and inspect the coils. They like to skip this routine because it can be time consuming and attics are hot. If it is not cleaned then the SEER of the unit goes to zero and you may have premature failure of the system including the compressor. Since you don't mind going in the attic yourself then you might remove the cover next to where the refrig lines enter the cabinet and take a look at the coil to see how dirty it is. I do this first and then call the service company and ask them to clean the coil, clear the condensate line, and check pressures. And don't buy the cheap filters. They let fine dust through and it settles on the coil.

10:25 Not sure how you got your comment in because Barry edited mine out. But your question is a good one and I suspect Barry is just editing comments out of the blog related to the demise of the B'port hospital due to special interests, which is truly a disappointment. Now that the city is being sued for the money owed by the failing hospital, why aren't taxpayers more upset? Could it be that the true story is being quashed by not only Barry, but the index and the city fathers? The truth will come out, whether you try to deny it or not. A bad investment is a bad investment.

"10:55, you use a snake to unstop a sink when a plunger will do it in five seconds? You do need to call a serviceman for minor problems."

Sorry buddy, but you are ignoring a bigger problem, and probably plunging your sink on regular basis. Better to just fix it right the first time and be done with it. Plunger=chitter!!!

10:25 comment on the hospital debt is a good one. The citizens of B'port may be slower than most to understand due to a high level of denial, but even they are beginning to see that the bleeding will not end until someone takes a stand and forces it to stop. You can't revive a dead horse, even in B'port.

About your A/C. Not sure if someone beat me to it. If the main drain is like mine it drains into a sink in your bathroom (from the attic), or even if it drains outside. If it drains under the sink disconnect it to make sure its not clogged there. While it is apart take an air compressor and blow air back out to the unit. It may make a little mess at the unit. Mine has like a ptrap right at the unit and this is where it usually clogs. The air trick will work. Once you get it open pour some water down it. Of course remove any debris that is blown out. Hope this helps.

1:44, you are exactly why we do not need women to tell us what to do. No one said anything about an a/c unit being froze up. Barry said his condensate line was stopped up. That is not frozen anything. About three of the posts here, including Honcho, know what they are talking about. The others better call a serviceman. I have watched a/c people blow them out with freon. That might not be good on the ozone but it cleared the line.

Secret Police, I was 11:50/10:17...I understand you were assisting him with a specific problem, I was just looking at if from a different perspective. You are right that the manly man is dying, and I will also admit I haven't even changed my own oil in years....don't take my man card!
