Good sheriff better rethink DUMB policy or else this constituent will be looking for new sheriff come election time.

Who cares!

My question is why would our shelter not be working with anyone that is trying to help them save dogs. Is it just easier to put them to sleep than to work with a rescue. Who cares who takes a picture. This makes me think they have something to hide. This is a tax payer built facility that is operated on our dime as well. What are they afraid of? I think I may take a drive down there myself and see how my money is being spent.

No picking involved. Channel 11 did a good job at telling the truth. Pictures are important for rescues to help find homes for the thrown away pets of our county. Wise County citizens need to know what goes on in their shelter.

When people donate money to the shelter for the animals, what is it spent on?

I was wondering why the Animal Shelter is under the Sheriff anyway. Is their not crime to look at other than dogs and cats! Who gives a damn who takes pics of the dogs and cats. I see pics all the time on the Animal Shelter facebook. I am sure the Sheriff has good reasons for why they do what they do.....

I just called the Sheriff and he is busy on budget and told me to talk quick. He was very nice and told us that there are a lot of changes in the works. He did have a good reason for pics to be limited. I was shocked at the # of animals brought into the shelter. HOLY COW that is a lot of animals. He was also right in that their has to be some control on what goes on at the shelter. He mentioned to me that there are good rescues, good volunteers, good employees, and then there are some that just flat one way. "Their way or no-way." He said that a buch of people have greta ideas, but from some legalities may effect what they do because of county government. He also said he will be sending out some stats on the shelter sometime today. I feel that this is a lot about nothing and he agreed with me. He welcomed a meeting with anyone and said that he may set up a short meeting for anyone who wishes to come. He is crazy for doing that, the crazy people will be out in force and he will have his hands full.

10:46 - What was his "good reason" for limiting pictures?

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:56 -- Thanks for getting the answer straight from the Sheriff. If anyone has never been to the shelter, they need to go visit. Every time I have been there, the kennels are clean, the animals are being taken out for walks or are in the yard playing, the staff is EXCEPTIONALLY friendly and helpful. I appreciate the Sheriff taking the time to oversee the shelter. If they don't like what is being done, then they need to take it over.

Has anybody seen the quality of the pictures that the shelter takes???

Opportunity bungled! Several months ago when the sheriff was confronted with issues of mismanagement, mistaken rules and animal abuse at the shelter, he had a chance to clean house and make our new facilty a model of true shelter, humane treatment and placement of desperate little animals. What he needed was to SOLVE THE PROBLEM with a skilled administrator and sensible rules that would promote all of the community resources that were involved in saving the animals. In this age of electronic communications and imagery following everything, pictures of the animals is the ONLY way to reasonably promote adoptions. David should have been aware of this and should have appointed a COMPETENT AND SKILLED administrator to make it all work foor the animals and the public. Instead, he appointed someone whose only credentials are that he is the husband of his secretary.

The Commissioners should take charge of this mess without delay and make treatment and rescue of our pets a top priority by first overturning the pathetic rule that bans taking pictures of them. If this can't be done, let's really get this on a POLITICAL front burner and keep it there folks! They don't even keep records? Hmm....how would us taxpayers know if we are being served or not? MORE TO CCME!

I wondered why their website had changed. It was a wonderful tool to help find homes for the animals instead of putting them down. I hope they are able to get the website back up.

I'll be happy to see the stats, or the exact numbers of "intake, adopted, rescued, euthanized, or death by parvo or other illness while in the shelter." Our ACO said there was no running tally kept! (What? isn't that his job to insure our tax dollars are not being skimmed or wasted?)
I do not believe it is even legal to prohibit the taking of pictures in a public facility, especially one where animals are searching for homes or rescues to SAVE THEIR LIVES!
Sheriff, try this: To those who are "good" workers, back them! To those idiots who complain or say "one way only", tell them Wise Co will do all it can to help place animals in homes or rescues. Then do just that and ignore the crazies. If the shelter IS working with volunteers, with rescues, keeping correct records and keeping those animals safe, then there is nothing anyone can do to "attack" the shelter! If too many animals are being euthanized and the shelter continues to "fight" against those who do everything possible to find homes for those animals, then the shelter will stay under attack.
I'm not sure the ACO can handle the job. Perhaps the sheriff should look at hiring an experienced ACO that is not offended when people offer to help.

10:46,,,,,the shelter is one of the cleanest and best run in the area, this a statement from the Texas Department of Health. I do not work there nor do I work for the sheriff. His decision to move Asa Moseley to be the supervisor is a good one. BUT, you have to know that the shelter is limited on funding via County restrictions. You also have to notice that there are other people over the shelter like Lt. John Thompson. There are a great deal of good leaders within the shelter organization and they have good common sense. DO YOU!? probably not. Volunteers are good, I happen to know one that is connected with the shelter. The volunteers are fighting each other and that is a shame. I do not blame the Sheriff in what he does. I am sure he has reasons and at some point maybe we will hear from him directly. Call him 10:46 you might be suprised what he tells you. I also do not blame the Sheriff if he steps back and says, screw it. Annimal Control is closed. I bet there is nothing that requires the sheriff to have animal control in the first place. I am appauled that people are so up in arms over damn dogs and cats.......damn it!

WISE COUNTY SHERIFF BUSTED? I don't think so! The animal shelter debate should not fall within the scope of duties of our sheriff. His job is law and order, confinement and process of prisoners, and leading and training top notch law enforcement officials. David Walker performs all of those duties better than any sheriff we have had here.

What doe this have to do with an animan shelter? NOTHING! That is all a responsibility unfairly delegated to him by the County Judges and it is entirely MISPLACED! Walker should not be taking the political heat for this dereliction of duties of the county administration and the job of managing the shelter should be taken back into their custody. The job there should make animal adoption, accountbility to the taxpayers and competency of work effort the top priorities of WISE COUNTY....not the sheriff!!

12:04 Amen. I couldn't have said it better myself! They got the wrong guy in charge down there. Talk about my way or the highway. This guy doesn't budge on anything.

10:46 ( and to our sheriff), this is NOT alot about NOTHING! Why don't you take a walk once each day for one week through our county shelter! Look at each little animal face, dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens and then tell us still this is alot about nothing!

Have you ever had a pet? When they were sick, did you care for them? Take them to a vet? Or are you the one who DOES dump beloved pets when they become ill and need our help!?

Your comment, and the sheriff's agreement, that this is alot about nothing speaks volumes of what caliber of human you and possibly our sheriff are! If that truly IS how our sheriff feels, then you can certainly count him a LOSS of about 15 votes, because neither me nor members of my family will ever vote to put him back in charge. His JOB could most definitely be in jeaopardy here! Whether you or others want to believe it, there are countless voters who will vote against him based on this ONE issue!
So, if he agrees with you that this is all alot about nothing, and if he's willing to make that comment to the public, then he's not too bright!

1:02, you, my friend, are stupid! Yes, let's just close it all down and see what happens then! County funds (tax payers money) was spent to build a beautiful facility to do what is humanely correct and if you haven't noticed, there are many many animal activists here. Sure, let the sheriff say, "screw it" and shut it down.

Talk about a really stupid comment!

The WCSO says they've received hundreds of complaints about the pictures in the past (as the video says).
So I'd say the good sheriff already IS concerned with what his constituents think.
Regardless, when there is as much concern about whether a battered woman has shelter or not I'll get as worried as anybody about whether some stray dogs live or die- otherwise hard for me to care.

Anonymous said...

Ok enough lies! the shelter knows the number of dogs and cats that are there daily. The drugs that are used to kill the animals are controlled. Therefore they keep records how much of the drug is used on each animal killed. The State requires they do that. Now about the State Inspection done recently was a joke. There were maggots on the floor of the shelter and she never even saw them. Ok to those of you that think these animals and their welfare is not important are proba ly the ones who dump their unwanted on the side of the road for others to take on your responsibility. If the people of this county took care and responsibility of their animals we would have no need for a shelter. These animals did nothing wrong in being in the shelter, but when they are there it is our responsibility to take care of them. These are GODs creatures.

After the horrible conditions of the last crap-hole shelter they ran, I imagine the feel they do not need to be under a microscope again. Yet, if they have nothing to hide, then why not post photos of the animals thru the bars. I tell ya what, those photos make folks come rescue an animal...

Anonymous said...

Personally Speaking, if the Wise county Tea party Repubs had there way we wouldn't even have an animal shelter. Cost the tax payers too much money.

High Sheriff doesn't want any pictures taken just in case he gets bad PR like he did over the last time the poor animals were being mistreated. Doesn't any of you remember the Joe Duty pics from the old shelter?

Anonymous said...

all dogs and cats that come through the shelter are recorded. The State makes shelter keep records of what comes in and out and what is put to sleep plus the drugs used. Taking pictures of the animals in a pen just make them look sad but that is the life they have in a shelter were are they do people want them to be kept? Mr. Mosley has not been in animal control but for a few years and he has no answers but will tell you it is his way. rescues are a great way to get to get the animals into homes and most of the rescue people are great to work with.

Anonymous said...

8:25 the last time Joe Duty took pictures the animals were not being mistreated. the shelter was in such bad shape and the County would not spend the money to fix it. So get you fax straight before you start posting lies. The building was the problem.

The Sheriff should tell all you dirks to kiss it. He has mire important things to do

Anonymous said...

If the Sheriffs office is keeping up with the number of complaints about photos of the pets at the shelter (and I seriously doubt there were hundreds - really???) then why can't the shelter keep up with the number of dogs taken in adopted, euthanized, etc.?

Anonymous said...

The Ex Assistant Chief for the Rhome FD will clear out all the mess in the shelter with his drugs.

Anonymous said...

A 30-06 is a lot cheaper alternative for animal control. I dont need my taxes paying for Rhome strays.

"Their way or no-way" is how Wise County has always been at the Sheriffs Dept.
I have never voted for Walker and he has yet to give me a good reason to vote for him. He's given me plenty of reasons not to vote for him.
He's a local boy and that is the only reason he's elected.

Wise County has alot of record keeping issues. They'll even tell you there is the Law and then there is Wise County Law! They don't give a rats butt about what they should do.

You are all dumb asses with nothing else to do but bitch. One way or another you will find a way to bitch about something. You all would bitch if you got hung with a new rope. Move to Ft Worth and get the he'll out of Wise County. I like it here and the rest can kiss my dark ass

I have been in this shelter many a times and it is a GREAT one!!
If the shelter were to keep every dog that came in until it was adopted then there would be no room for them all and they would not be able to properly manage them they way they all need to be.
A lot of animals may be brought into the shelter and then need to be put down due to health reasons, disease, or aggressiveness.
I would not want someone whom had a chip on their shoulder to come in and take a picture of an animal that is fixing to be put down, that is an aggressive animal trying to bite through the bars or being so sick that it brakes your heart and then trying to post those pictures saying, "oh look at the poor job So And So is doing". There are animals that just don't need to have their pictures taken because they just can not be saved. Who wants to see that!!!
Like Moseley said, the pictures in the shelter "make it look the like animals are in jail" and that is heart wrenching to some also. Now yes, they may need some better sites and pictures of the animals that are savable but that doesn't mean that they are not doing their jobs to the best of their ability.
You saw the footage from the news, I didn't see any neglect! I saw water and food in the bowls and animals happy to see you. If they were being neglected they wouldn't jump to be pet when you come in.
They also offer ANYONE to come in at any time to have a look for themselves!!! They are NOT trying to hide a thing... just make things better for all.
The only ones that are griping about this are the ones that are not getting their way and don't want to abide by the rules. Instead of trying to come up with a poor excuse to get your way, try coming up with a compromise that helps everyone! Like offer to come in once a week and take a picture of the animals, that are adoptable, OUTSIDE of the shelter.
There are reasons and rules for everything; grow up and understand that.

Army Wife said...

I called the shelter myself and they told me that they do NOT allow pictures inside the shelter walls BUT you CAN take pictures outside the walls such as in the yard, on walks, so on and so forth. This only proves my point even more that this is only a person not getting their way and to get attention.
Get all the facts before you go to the news people!

ARMY WIFE, You have not a clue of what you are talking about. Are you involved in fostering, regular adoptions, rescues or transports that SAVE the lives of these animals?
I'm glad you spoke with the shelter personnel. I'm glad you've listened to their perspective. It's only one piece of the pie! There are many many more pieces and ALL have to cooperate in order to get as many animals out of the shelter and into homes. With your attitude, oh well... save 25 percent and so what about the other 75 percent.
You're a LAZY A$$ who swallows what pablum you are tossed!! STUPID!

Anonymous said...

For all you people who are complaining about the "poor mistreated animals in the shelter" where the hell ARE you??? Get your asses in there an ADOPT them!!!! Get all your friends to adopt one, then there won't be any animals there for you to complain about !!!!!!

Army Wife said...

To 9:12pm,
No clue what I am talking about... ha, ha, ha. I happen to know about the adoption process and I know that if an animal is too aggressive, unable to be trained or to ill, they can not be adopted. It just so happens that SADLY, a lot of the animals that come into ANY shelter are "not adoptable".
Where did I ever state anything or even the idea of save 25% and so what for the other 75%. Way to try and make a sensible person look bad by putting words that are not theirs, out there.
I am far from a lazy a$$, as you call me... I am willing to understand the reasoning behind the choices made and not just throw a fit.
The shelter is willing to let anyone come and handle the pets, take pictures, training and what not "outside" of the shelter walls. You know, the handling area right outside the door, where anyone can see what is happening.

Anyone wanting to really help these animals can go up there and help them. So why don't you stop trying to pick at something there is nothing to pick at and take advantage of what IS available to help those animals.

I have adopted plenty of animals myself and I find nothing wrong with what the great men and women are doing at that shelter. So why don't you stop griping and complaining about something to petty and focus on something REALLY important. Like harsher punishment on those that abuse the animals in the 1st place.
