Let's build big wide open highways... skip putting in overpasses and entrance ramps... then act surprised when people wreck out... so we'll add a traffic light... and wind up with a big nice road that is so clogged up with traffic it just creates bigger problems.
Light next to Devon? Fail. Bus380 and US380? Fail. 380 and 287? Fail. Bus 287 and 287 south of town? SUPER Fail.
I know I suck, even had a good graphic close up and went to send it and accidentally deleted it..I'm no Shaun Raab, but Becky Oliver better watch her A**..coming live from the scene, back to you Mr. Green..I Love you Jane
Why did they change that road? It was a lot easier to merge to the right when heading East, and having a few less cars at the intersection, then it is to have every car at that intersection.
they don't need a traffic light. The exit lane needs to leave the roadway sooner, so the drivers crossing the roadway know if the traffic is exiting or not.
I agree- I drive through that intersection several times a day, and have seen many, many wrecks, including the death of a friend.
The exit ramp (lane) needs to be like it used to be, veering off to the right (east-bound) BEFORE getting to the intersection. There weren't near as many wrecks when it was that way.
Red light will not stop the wrecks. The only way to prevent these wrecks is for people to stop running the stop sign and coming out in front of people on the highway!!! The same people will run a red light too. Stupid, stupid people. You put everybody at risk!!!
I wonder how much money the county has already raked in for road repairs, and has yet to fix it... Seems hard to believe there's been this many accidents and the state hasn't given Wise Co any funding. If so, I wonder where the hell that money is going....
10:47: but they did change it so STAY PUT until you CAN see! Why would you pull out if you have ANY doubt about what a car is going to do? I can tell you that even if a car has a blinker (saying the are turning right), I STILL sit there to make sure. Once again, let's blame the road!
The 380 business exit is simply poorly designed and, as someone else has already stated, was much safer when east bound traffic on 380 angled off onto the business about a hundred yards farther west rather than at the intersection, somewhat like you see on the south end of town where north bound 287 traffic exits onto it's business route several yards before the actual intersection. The problem is not that cars signal right turns and then continue straight ahead. It's that, at times, so much east bound traffic is trying to turn right onto the business route that cars stack up in the turn lane for forty to fifty yards and completely block ones view of cars in the through lanes, particularly when you consider the stop line for cars coming off the business route sits behind the right turn lane which inhibits your ability to see even more.
I DO stay put until all is clear (and probably make the people behind me mad sometimes as a result).
My comment is that before they changed the off-ramp, I don't recall nearly this many accidents. I've been driving it several times a day for almost 15 years. My observation is that there are WAY too many accidents/deaths now, versus before the change.
Once again, does anyone know why they did away with the first off-ramp (exit) and changed it to the present?
Fix the road and exit back to the way it was before. No need for a stupid traffic light people are going to run anyway, or can't see when the sun is in their eyes, RE: Devon light Bport.
Until then, every afternoon I will be still pissing people off behind me bc I won't cross over until the blind spot clears..
8:28 & 5:11 You are both right on. I was waiting for a pick up to turn right the other day, the blind spot is on the other side North side of p.u. I almost pulled out getting hit by little car that I didn't even know was on the back side of that pick up headed east and I always sit there until it appears clear. Hope they don't put the new courthouse on 380 by the civic center but on the business 380.

Where did the term straight as an arrow come from?

Were drugs, alcohol, or illegal drivers involved?

I've never understood a traffic light in the middle of a highway.
Your number one is a bad spot.

Anyone know why they had to change it?

Like the math expert said in "Jurassic Park"--"save us from engineers".
7:41 - I am not blaming the road. What a goober.

9:14...They changed it to increase fatality accidents! We all like a good wreck!
