This One Even Makes My Head Explode

Can a county inmate legally be denied the access to an abortion clinic if she is willing to pay for the procedure herself? From a legal standpoint, no wonder the ACLU got involved -- it's a fascinating legal question.

An "undo" burden? Methinks perhaps the article's author meant "undue". The Startlegram needs better editors if the writers don't know how to spell.

As one who does not believe in spending public coin for abortion, I would nonetheless agree with you, Skippy, that this presents an interesting legal question, inasmuch as the procedure is under the laws of the land, presently legal.

Well, what is a jail/prison's policy on other elective procedures?

I say abort them both and chalk up a win- win for society!

Sure is interesting how hard people, ALL of whom were not themselves aborted, will work to make sure an abortion is done. It's a lot easier issue once you're safely in the tent, isn't it? Can there ever really be a fair discussion on this issue. When only non-aborted people are at the table, how can there be?

Here is my question on this deal. Sure, this woman was going to pay for the procedure herself, but was she also going to reimburse the county for the use of a county vehicle and employee to take her there?

If Parker County did that, then we would be paying some of the indirect costs of this abortion.

8:07 That's the dumbest anti-abortion argument I've ever heard. As a woman, I have the right to determine what grows or doesn't grow inside my body, incarcerated or not. If they don't allow a legal one, there are other ways to abort and not nearly so aseptic. The county could end up having to pay for a major hospitalization and surgery if she decides to take matters into her own hands. No one can FORCE a woman to carry a child to term.

I she has money to get an abortion, she should have money to bail herself out of jail. I would bet money that she has a court-appointed attorney as well. I guess she just puts her money toward her own priorities.

Abortion is a medical procedure like any other. If religious fascists have a problem, then we need to be aborting them. The future has no room for stone age superstition.
