The AP is on the story of Rick Perry's expensive rent house.
But, since I am the most trusted source in news, faithful readers of Liberally Lean learned about it in November of 2007.

I don't know why more people in this state were not throwing a fit about this. When they first made the decision, I thought how ridiculous it was.
I remember about ten years ago or so when Arkansas did so remodeling to the Governor's mansion. Seems that, instead of renting an expensive house, Governor Huckabee just had a double-wide moved onto the property to live in. Sure, this was Arkansas, after all, but it would have been nice if we had had a governor who looked out for more ways to save the State money than to make sure that he had a really nice place to live in.
Yeah, same thing - taxpayer's money vs. personal money. You've got a great point there. Man, have you got some debate skills - compare things that have nothing in common and hope no one notices.
10:34, I guess I don't get your reference to Al Gore. Why is that relevant to this story? Gore is no longer an elected official and as far as I can tell, he is not using tax money (other than utilizing his Senate/VP retirement package) for housing.
The Rick Perry rental is a story not solely because of the amount of $ involved, but because he is choosing to pay for his lavish housing as an expense of the State of Texas.
We understand that he needs a place to live during the renovation of the Gov. Mansion. This issue is that he is being careless in choosing such an expensive alternative.
I accept your hatred of Gore and his party affiliation. It just doesn't seem relevant to the Perry situation. Are you trying to say that Gore's wealth somehow makes Perry's decision justifiable?
I'm all for the governor, regardless of party politics, having nice accomodations. But for $600,000 shouldn't they have bought a decent house? Then they could have sold it afterwards and gotten some of our money back
Algore's digs dwarf Rick Perry's. Everything's bigger and better in Texas anyways by Gawd! All you little lib weanies and you Texas transplants whining about our gov can move back to Michigan. After all their warped lib policies there, they are bulldozing homes everywhere that you little pricks left when you moved here.
11:40 - every President (I assume the beloved Republican ones too) have had the Presidential perks. It's part of the job. And they have all used Air Force One to campaign from. So?
The governor's accommodations were not acquired with an open checkbook. It is appropriated by government. Government on any level is not efficient on anything outside of their realm. Our Federal Government should first control borders...it doesn't. So it grows and moves to something it should have nothing to do with...health care....you haven't seen wasteful spending and inefficient incompetence yet....more to come..
12:08, Isn't it a little liberal weenie hypocritical that when millions of people are out of work that the almighty annointed one is living life largely on the backs of the hardworking tax payers? How many times has this jerk played golf or hoops since being selected President?
I'm sure you were similarly outraged with all of the brush clearing and mountain biking done by the previous resident, the extensive "renovations" done to the presidential "ranch," as well as the number of times the secret service had to follow around and cover for the party twins. You are an idiot.
10:34 here. I was trying to be pithy because of the blog venue. Of course, other than the similarity of discussing housing, the Perry story has nothing to do w/ the Gore story per se, and if I wanted to make a statement to Barry, I should have just made the statement, which I will do here in a moment.
To 11:21 - I did not mean to convey a message involving the feeling of hatred toward anyone or anything.
10:53 - You point out the significant difference between these two stories in your opening sentence, but you are commenting on the obvious, as far as I'm concerned. I suppose I was too brief in my comment, which caused the confusion in my meaning for you and for others.
10:56 is absolutely correct, but more specifically, my comment was directed straight at Barry, whose blog I enjoy reading, by the way. He exhibits a definite trend, which is to be consistently partisan in his blog, which is, of course, his prerogative. It is also his prerogative to publish my comment. In my opinion, it is possible to be consistently liberal in social views without sacrificing one's credibility. However, not so much, when one routinely brings attention to shortcomings (sometimies resorting to distortion) of the members of one party only, ignores those same people's actions, , and ignores similar transgressions by those in the other party. In other words, I allege Barry has two distinct sets of rules of acceptable behavior regarding politicians. Again, whatever floats his boat.
I neither condone nor aplogize for any of Gov. Perry's actions, many of which are reprehensible to me. I can't believe Texas hasn't produced a viable opponent that can push him out of any elected office from now on. Kay Bailey wasn't it, neither is Bill White. That is not to say I don't think White can win, he might, but he won't be any better Gov. Maybe we should just let another shyster have a turn, I don't know. VP Gore is apparently becoming wealthier at a rapid pace while not walking his talk. Texans keep re-electing Perry, and Americans keep buying Gore's snake oil. There is legitimate environmental science supporting valuable and effective conservation efforts out there, but that's not what Gore is peddling, nor living. And you won't read about that in Barry's comments.
I can't imagine any Democrat being unhappy with the government spending money on a government official. It seems to me that you guys love government wasting money. You usually think it is a wonderful idea and that we don't do enough of it....spend more...give the guy a couple of new cars while you are at it...doesn't matter...it is just government money and that belongs to the government...right? Hypocrites.

Rick Perry is a jerk. Aren't Republicans supposed to be conservative? I hope Bill White uses this to the hilt against Perry.
Ten thousand dollars a month?
I cannot stand that beady eyed idiot.
I don't recall, Barry, have you commented on Al Gore's recently acquired California digs?
Oh, wait, wrong party affiliation.
Never mind.

I think the point is both parties have more than enough arrogant, hypocritical douche bags. Perry and Gore have a lot in common!

I am a Republican and I am seriously thinking about voting for Bill White in the next election. This man is nothing but a RINO and a crook.

What's it costing us to house Obammy and his Klan, and to fly them to date nights with security shutting down the parts of town they are visiting?

Thanks for pointing this out. Again. Must be a slow news day.

I'm tired of Rick Perry. And I plan to vote that way in the fall...anyone but Rick Perry.
