We all know how active deer are in the middle of the day. Headline should read: "Woman distracted by talking/texting on cell phone loses control, runs off road, plows over mailbox and flips car all because her text message/phone conversation was so freaking important."I just hope she was okay.Deer. Pfft. Whatthehellever.
I gots to agree with Jarhead. Driving with head up a**. Its so easy to tell the cops a deer caused the wreck because deer dont stick around to accept the blame
So how do we know that she wasn't out there bashin mail boxes and the Deer tried to stop her and she killed it?I mean, how do we know?
Stupid people who put masonry mailboxes in the public right-of-way are out of compliance with State of Texas regulations. Get em Barry.
That thing looks like a liquor cabinet to me, not a mail box.
When I do something stupid like that (and it's only a matter of time), I am going to blame a stupid cat or skunk. It's just unfair to blame Bambi.
Negative skepticism is running at a high today.
I smell a lawsuit.
If she files a lawsuit then she is stupid. She is the one who ran over it. not the other way around. I guess the mailbox jumped out in front of her. Did anyone see the deer? She was probably going to fast and talking on her cell and then ran of the road and over corrected. use your brain and pay attention.
Does said state regulation apply to county roads?
http://www.txdot.gov/safety/mailboxes/crash_test.htmThere is no excuse for someone building a structure on public property that can result in death with a small movement of a steering wheel. If I have a choice of constructing a crash proof mailbox that can kill a human or one that I have to replace occasionally, I will choose a break-away mailbox.
Someone needs to contact the Postmaster General so charges can be filed on this women for damage to that mailbox.Double fake uninterested third party
Not sure about the County maintained rules, but State maintained roads are required to have TXDOT approved breakaway mailbox supports. TXDOT will install one for free upon request.http://www.txdot.gov/safety/mailboxes/default.htm
...or you could just not text/talk on your cell phone while driving and you wouldn't have to worry about mailbox laws and flipping your car...Just sayin'.
jarlidWhile I share your disgust with people texting and talking on the phone while driving I doubt this was the case in this incident. Age of the victim (lady not the mailbox) being the reason for my doubt. Most folks over 50 don't text sitting still and can't imagine texting while driving. Confusing the accelerator with the brake after leaving the road probably added to the carnage. I live in the area and it's not unusual to see deer during the day.
The worst accident I ever experienced happed in 1987. A deer committed suicide by bashing into the side of my Bronco in the middle of the afternoon.
Only a Wise County deer would be stupid enough to be up and about before dusk.Maybe it was out looking to score some meth.Or going to WalMart. Before you all fly off the handle, lighten up. I'm only teasing. Have a good weekend!JH
