With the final game in that old place being this Saturday night (how rotten is that?
Saturday night and on the NFL Network), I've compiled my list of top things I've seen in person at the stadium.
(The
Dallas Observer's Richie Whitt
just posted a legitimate Top Ten list on his blog.)
But mine:
- I saw the first event in the stadium's history in the early 1970s: A Billy Graham Crusade
- In 1989 when Michael Irvin, I think in his second season, blew out his knee and was gone for the season. I'm pretty sure Steve Walsh started over Troy Aikman for some reason. The Cowboys lost because they always lost back then.
- Southlake Carroll vs. Euless Trinity epic playoff game (was that crazy fake punt game, played in front of about 50,000 people, last year or the year before?)
- A Paul McCartney concert (tickets via scalper in the parking lot.)
- A Monday Night Football game in around 1993 or 1994. Not too memorable because I can't remember who they played or who won.
- A game in the early 1990s against the Kansas City Chiefs. I just remembered that I had a blind date. I don't think we ever went out again. She wasn't too bad.
- The1992 playoff game against the Eagles -- the first season that Jimmy Johnson led the Cowboys to the Superbowl. (Odd event: A group of about 12 of us, without game tickets, rented an RV and bought a parking ticket next two the stadium. My very good looking girlfriend then persuaded an attendant to let the two of us in the stadium during the game. There weren't any seats, but I saw a few minutes of the playoff win.)
- Bridgeport High School vs. Niceville, Florida on 9/29/00. Pics.
- Edit: Forgot watching Baylor vs. SMU in, I think, 1985.
- Edit: Forgot watching Eric Dickerson score for SMU against North Texas in 1981 or 1982.
- Edit: It's ridiculous that I left off one of the most amazing things I've ever seen: No. 9 Colorado 39, No. 3 Texas 37 on 12/1/01 (First game tickets I ever bought off Ebay.)
- Edit: I just remembered that I went to a Cowboys/Eagles game in 1987 during the NFL strike so the game was played with replacement players. The first Cowboy play was a reverse that I thought was a little cheezy.

Who was the Bulls QB at the time they played Niceville.
Memories........
Mid to late 70's preseason game,,,,hot as heck. Drew Peason runs for about 40 yards for a td, bends over and immediately pukes. Rowdy then slips in the mess and breaks his neck. Crowd goes crazy.
May have made that last part up from my Rowdy death dream.
Iused to go to the Thanksgiving game every year because it was the easiest to get good seats. I got to watch some wheels off football.Gary Hogeboom, Clint Longley, Leon Lett (The Immaculate Touchback)...
That was back when everyone used to bring margaritas in those pump thermos'.
Ah, good times.
Here's my Top 10 List:
1) Who cares? I guess I do a little since I’m wasting my time on this stupid list.
2) Yawn
3) Cowboys aren't "America's Team, they're "Mexico's Team"
4) Michael Irvin is a cokehead and should get the Pete Rose ban
5) Jimmy Johnson was the best thing to ever happen to the Cowboys and those glory days, my friends, are long gone. Never again.
6) Dallas has the most fair-weather fans on the planet. Even if you say you stuck with them when they sucked, you're lying. You're a fair-weather fan and deep down you know it to be true.
7) Barry Switzer? Come on...
8) The Steelers still own you, 2-1.
9) You're the Oakland Raiders of the new millennium and Jerry Jones is the new Al Davis. That ≠ success, by the way.
10) The Cowboys just plain suck.
Jarhead
I would disagree with you on point #6. Back in '89 when they truly sucked, with a 1-15 record, I worked at night and got up every Sunday afternoon (in the middle of MY night) to watch them play, and get beat all but one game. That, sir, is a FAN! I've been a fan since I was a little kid, and will continue to be, regardless of their record, their owner, their coaches, or their players. The team isn't just those things. It's the organization, the franchise. It's who you root for against all others
Late June, 1974, Allman Brothers Band with Joe Walsh and the Marshall Tucker Band.
What was the final score of Bridgeport vs. Niceville?
I bagged a drunk chick from Iowa in the restroom one time.
Double Fake, Other Drunk at Iowa game
bridgeport won 27-16
Wouldn't it be nice if Jarhead just blew away?
Never happen. Keep wishing, though.

I have several memories of Texas Stadium, but my favorite is the concert I attended on June 28th, 1974. I was honored to see Joe Walsh, Marshall Tucker and The Allman Brothers Band. I was 19 years old and in my "experimental stage" of life. It was a blast!
