A Litttle Known (Recent) Texas Stadium Memory

A Euless Trinity football player has been disciplined for intentionally running over a game official during a playoff game two weeks ago.

"We did conduct an investigation and he is being disciplined according to the student code of conduct," said Judy Ramos, director of communications for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD.

Ramos declined to name the player, but internet video of hit shows the player wearing No. 47, who is listed on the Trinity roster as senior linebacker Elikena Fieilo.

Fieilo, a second-team all-state linebacker, was the defensive MVP in Trinity's 2007 Class 5A Division I title game win over Converse Judson.

The University Interscholastic League is also investigating the incident and could levy additional sanctions. Trinity football coach Steve Lineweaver directed all inquiries to Ramos.

The video, taken from two angles, is from the late stages of Allen's 34-21 win over Trinity in the Class 5A Div. I Region I final at Texas Stadium Dec. 6.

At the snap of the ball, the Trinity linebacker immediately runs to his right and knocks the unidentified official to the ground, even though the play is a running play to his left.

Ramos said the student has mailed a formal letter of apology to the official.

"He's very remorseful," Ramos said.

It will be interesting to see if this scum of a kid gets a football scholarship.

Welcome to the "pac-man" generation.

Typical "it's all about me" attitude on some athletes. The play went for a big gain right where he should have been. The team comes second.

I'm sure it was instigated and the retaliation was all the kid knows to do. Let's just hope the kid finds his identity and is allowed to be himself.

For pete's sake....he apologized. What else would you want?

Looks like he might have anticipated a fake handoff and a slant to the left receiver...trying to cut off the route and make an interception.

He's playing pretty deep for a linebacker.

So let me understand. Because the kid was running one way and the play evolved in the other direction, that's evidence of intent? Were there not also a couple of players in the direction he was running? Maybe his read was to cover an inside pass route. Isn't the whole idea for an offensive play to get defensive players started in the wrong direction sometimes?

B.S 1:54 he knew where he was going. The way he extended his body to make the hit suggest it was intentional.Just another example of I before we it's all about me.

522 has a point. Maybe the kid thought the ref's cap was a helmet, thought those big shoulders were padded, and the ref's outfit did look somewhat the opposing team. Just an honest mistake. And the apologized for Pete's Sake. The official was not killed, or even seriousely injured.
