Probably More To This

But this overturned car in the median on 287 south of Rhome was causing traffic to be diverted to a service road this morning

OOO yeah. That's much better than my camera phone picture. I got there late when all the emergency vehicles were leaving.

I'm just a rookie... :(

I have got it on VERY RELIABLE information, that a rock truck lost part of his load, leaving gravel covering both lanes. The rocks made the highway like an ice rink, and the woman lost control of the vehicle, and ended up turning her vehicle on it's side in the median. of course, the rock truck never stopped, and probably spread rock all the way to wherever he was going.

How can these rock quarry outfits survive? Aren't they legally liable for accidents caused by their drivers? When they employ drivers with questionable skills and licensing, they have to be making lots of big settlements for the carnage they create almost weekly.

I got hit by a rock hauler in a minor accident and when the police came they told me that the driver had just got his license back from his THIRD SUSPENSION!! And he's hauling around 80,000 pounds of rolling death?

There definitely needs to be more oversight in this industry. I realize we need these jerkoffs for our civil infrastructure, but at what cost? It's a well known fact that they are at the bottom of the pay scale for truck drivers and illegally paid by the load by their employers and sleep deprived. All this = driving too aggressively, not paying attention to what they're doing, ignoring the safety of their trucks (as we saw with this example), and generally being a menace on the roads.

We're all guilty of bad driving from time to time, but "regular" commuters don't carry the weight that these monster death machines do.

I'm sorry, but I'm just sick and tired of these fools and it seems there is no recourse to reign them in. I've had too many close calls because these guys are speeding and recklessly changing lanes so they can squeeze in an extra load that day. I'm not willing to die or lose my family over a truckload of rocks. Something needs to be done but I don't know where to start.

Second longest post ever.

10:28AM, they fight you tooth and nail if you have a claim. They'll even use the "Well, we're helping build this county!!1" crap, too. A rock hit my wife's car and shattered the windshield. The impact crater was seven inches across, it wasn't just a chipped windshield. My wife got the name of the company, the truck's number and license plate. DPS, Decatur PD, nor the WCSO would assist. Ended up going to the company with the car and they finally paid for a new windshield.

I like the way rock trucks have a sign on the back that says stay back 200 feet and were not responceable for the rock that fall from our trucks a hit you. first of all you can't read that sign from 200 feet away.and can I get a sign to warn rock truck drivers that I have a gun a like to shot trucks that hit me with rocks.

Not sure about the gravel. Didn't see any when I went by. When you think about how much gravel it would take to make you lose traction on a straight roadway "that's a lot of gravel." (Earl- Cops episode)

9:01 im not a rock hauler but im am a truckdriver and i agree with a lot of comment you and other make on the blog.after thrity years of driving with no accidents i like to see you post about what know instead hear and assume.truckdriver are not fool there just a lot of fools driving trucks as for pay most of then make 40000 ayear or better so i dont think there at the bottom of the pay scale.mabe you all could start judging the people for the idiots they are instead of the job they repersent.there a lot of rockhaulers out there doing a good job even tho there fewer&fewer everyday.i wish all of you could ride with real truck for one day to see what they everyday.

12:38 - Any kind of sign that says "Not liable for ..." is pure BS. A sign does not exempt anyone from liability.

Do rock companies get sued for damages caused by their trucks or not?

Oh my Lord.

I ran that 12:57 post thru my spell check and the damn screen lit up red squiggly lines like it was the 4th of July. I had to drink a 6 pack to understand it.

OMG that comment left at 12:57 is so hilarious. I couldn't understand it either. Yeah that made my day with the 1:38 comment I laughed so hard. Next time you leave a comment 12:57 make sure you proofread. Especially if you are going to put everyone else down on this page.
