Wise County Burning

(Flag pic taken at Boyd Post Office around 12:30 p.m. )

Just a rumor. Anyone know anything? With these winds, it could get crazy.

Edit: As a commenter pointed out, it's in the Update.

Edit#2: 11:42 This is a phone in post live from the scene: This looks BAD! 114 is shut down in Paradise. Thick smoke is extending all the way across FM 51 where it makes driving hazardous.

Stay tuned for bad pictures.

Looks like firetrucks and Troopers are moving east to cover the scene.

Edit #3: 11:55am Westbound Hwy 114 being diverted to FM 51.

Edit #4: 12:00pm Hearing of unconfirmed rumors of another fire in Chico.

Edit #5: I'm back at the office. I left from Decatur and headed down 51 to 114. It was amazing the amount of smoke that was coming from the Paradise area. Lots of firefighters using that area as a command post. I turned right on 114 to head into Paradise. A frightening amount of smoke. Saw the cops shut down 114 and turn everyone around. The wind had been out of the West but it seems like it was more from the North as time passed. If anyone has any better information or photos, just pass them along. blog2[at]wisecounty.com

Edit #6: If I had to GUESS (and this is only a guess), I would think the fire began in or near the blue circle below.

Edit #7: WBAP reported at 1:30 p.m that "300 acres" had been consumed, "14 structures", and that firefighters were battling to keep the fire out of the Stonegate Subdivision.

Too close to my house! I have a friend who lives in Stonegate. I am told evacuations are soon in that area.

I just went thorugh Paradise. I saw flames that I would almost swear were 8 feet tall. There are not enough firemen in Wise County to contain the hellacious beast of a fire that thing is. Geesh! Oh and there is a fire in Chico and there have been 5 structures burnt in Paradise. At least that is what is being relayed acorss the scanner. Hwy 114 is at a stand still.

Lots of prayers going out to everyone in Wise County right now. Mostly to those that are fighting the fires and the ones inline. Try and stay safe out there people. Hope to check in later today.
side note:if you smoke, please carry a bottle or water or can of unfinished soda with and place your cigs. in them.

It makes me wonder who the idiots are in this county that keep setting these fires?!? And if it was caused by a cigarette, don't ppl know to put it out before you throw it out?? D*MB*SS!!!

Thank goodness, I live in PCE and it hasn't crossed the highway yet.
My friend got thru the road block on 114 awhile ago to retrieve her mom (Stonegate) who is visiting from out of town. And, my hubby and my friend's hubby are headed that way from Fort Worth to check things out.

Crazy! I'm a nervous wreck.

it's the rock hauling-suv driving-
liberal dems that voted for Bush-
that watch porn movies with Barry,
or maybe..just maybe the wind causing electric wires to arc that is causing these fires..

Anonymous said...

1:57, winds causing electrical lines to arc or trains causing sparks on the track? I'm betting train sparks, especially with the location of the fire in Paradise, according to the blog.

RPM said...

Train sparks are not likely. They used to be a problem years ago but they have much better maintenence now.

Cigarette butt, spark from powerlines, kids with matches... It could be 100 different things.

Hey now, ya'll need to cut Barry some slack. Looks to me like he's all over this.

...Paradise being evacuated...
Oh heavens no.
Is it time to panic NOW!

12:57pm, please don't tell people it's okay to throw cigarettes out. Even if they are out, they're still ugly litter. Just put in the ash tray and empty them in the garbage.
