I've Had A Couple Of People Ask If I Saw . . .

. . . this part of the front page Messenger story regarding the Texas First Lady's visit to Bridgeport. Some say it was a shot at Bridgeport by the "Decatur paper." What's missing is the actual quote from Ms. Perry. It's hard to get a sense of what happened without it.

You stay classy Messenger... the paper that begs everyone to believe them when they say they are a County Paper and not a Decatur Paper… and then publishes itself and proves it.

One of the few legitimate stories that actually comes around about a town in the county. And the mess doesn’t disappoint with its pettiness.

Sheesh…

From a Proud Bridgeport Resident.

Who gives a damn about what that woman has to say.

I think that was a really petty thing to include in the story. Pointless, immature, poor reporting. Why try and tarnish something that is cool for the whole county, not just Bridgeport? It's great that we have two Main Street cities in Wise County...why be competitive?

I guess you forgot the story took up the entire FRONT PAGE and the comment you refer to is but one minor paragraph within a MUCH larger, very positive story about the event and the success of the Bridgeport Main Street. Grow up. Bridgeport is to be commended on achieving their goal of being a Main Street city and the WC Messenger did a good job of covering their journey and related celebration.

They shouldn't have given it the coverage they did. They know it makes the makes the people in Bridgeport mad when they make comments like that. It wasn't necessary. Focus on the positive. It was a wonderful day for Bridgeport and all of Wise County to enjoy!

Just goes to show she is just as retarded as her husband.

Oh good grief. Some of you act like the Messenger never has a negative thing to say about Decatur .... which it damn sure does. It's a newspaper for crying out loud. It's what they do. Report and agitate. Every big story contains an irritation somewhere. It's what keeps people coming back.

This is silly. Bridgeport fans celebrate a victory over Decatur in the "Battle of Big Sandy". So do Decatur fans when they win it. So where's the "gaffe"? Hyper-sensitivity again on the part of the "Messenger".

the messenger didnt say anything wrong, it was perry's dumb comment that was silly and it was funny. i live in bridgeport and i thought it was funny because she was speaking of something she knows nothing about clearly did not research. i hardly think the paper tried to tarnish bridgeport. look at the great coverage with the entire front page of the "decatur paper" and i think there were even more pictures inside. if anything, i think they overcovered the event.
in any event, thanks "decatur paper" for a great job covering a big day for bridgeport.

GO BULLS!

I have a hard time believing that the Messenger is not biased. Especially since that was the beginning of the story. They just through a cheap shot at Bridgeport. I understand that The Battle of Big Sandy has gone the Eagles way the last few years and that is a legitimate point, but it did not need to go into a story regarding Mrs. Perry's visit.

Amen 6:58 - and did anybody read Skip Nichols editorial on how supportive everybody should be (and Decatur IS supportive) of any city that is deemed a "main street" town?

For years the Bridgeport folks spewed stupid jealousy over anything positive that happened in Decatur, which was no more than some childish Big Sandy football mentality.

Finally, visionary leadership appeared and is working for Bridgeport.

Nitpicking on what the governor's wife said or didn't say....

...good gosh, THAT is important?

why are people blaming the wcm for something that a woman of her stature had no business saying? it was dumb, unfounded and made her look stupid. i think it was valid being early in that story because it was the most stunning thing she had to say and it made her look stupid for reading a prepared speech that all she did was fill in the blanks from other speeches.
if she would had given that same speech and bridgeport had won the last 15 battle of big sandy games, the crowd would had errupted in cheer and may have rioted in downtown bridgeport. BUT, since the shoe is on the other foot and the fisrt lady put her foot in her mouth, its a bad thing?
i live in decatur and i thought a full front page of that stuff was overkill. so i ask, if the wcm is bias, why did they dedicate the whole from page to a bridgeport event? i think those on the west side need to get a clue and stop being jealous because our paper is so much better than their product that is only good for lining cat boxes.
in closing, i remember front page stories about the principal at decatur close to losing her job, the district having an extra athletic class and an editorial from the owner about how about the DISD is. so, if you think this is the decatur paper and is bias, you need to learn how to read and quit living with such a shallow mind and reading only what you want and forgetting about all the negitive pub this paper gives decatur when its deserved.

Good thoughts in your post 1:22.

A governor's wife is just as "under the gun" as her husband is. Why can't we just appreciate the woman taking the time to come into our county and support Bridgeport being named a "main street" city?

How many of US would perhaps mess up a bit in a speech when we didn't know anything other than what some person submitted to us about the subject matter?

Beats the heck out of me why Barry even started this with only "a couple" of people asking him about the Perry visit.

Some folks will do anything to get a response......

BG knows how to bait.

Maybe HE should apply for a job at the Wise County Messenger.
