Wise County Messenger Here is what's posted on our website: CARSON ELEMENTARY, DHS ON LOCKDOWN -- Decatur Police and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were posted at the entrances to Carson Elementary and Decatur High School Tuesday morning after both campuses were placed on lockdown due to a threat against a Carson employee. Police were alerted to the threat posted on Facebook, and contacted DISD officials Tuesday morning. An automated call to parents with students at those campuses went out shortly after 8:30 a.m., and within a few minutes some parents were up at the school to pick up their children. Superintendent Rod Townsend encouraged parents to "let us do our job," noting that "security is the top priority here." Townsend said both the employee and a child who is a student at the high school are in a safe location. The plan at this point is to keep the campuses under lockdown with heavy security until the suspect has been located. "We're going to stay on lockdown until we know the safety and security of everyone's children is not an issue."

Wow, what nice things to say about someone. I don't know this man, but I do know those type of comments are the #1 reason I didn't get treatment with my particular mental illness for years . It's not like anybody asks for mental ilness, and it dosen't descriminate.
It's a lifelong battle in most cases, and the stigma associated with mental illness is the equivalent of social suicide. 40% of people surveyed said they would not want to work with someone with mental ilness, and 60% said they would not date someone with mental illness.

I'm sorry if you're sick but I'd be the first to lock you up as well if you threatened the lives of others, especially if it were the lives of children in schools! How DARE you or anyone else defend him in the name of mental illness as though we should all excuse him because of that!
If you're not receiving medication for your illness then maybe you should be because it is not those who are upset with this man who are the ignorant ones, but they are those who live in fear of the fact that we have seen too many mentally unstable people take the lives of the innocent.
Schools have an absolute ZERO TOLERANCE for threats against their employees or students. ZERO! That means the mentally unstable are not exempt and that's just as it should be.
Maybe this man would be in better shape if he was on medication for his instability and wouldn't have lost it to the point of threatening people. Maybe you better think about that if you're too ashamed to get help yourself.

Like I said, ignorant. Most mental illness patients are very non-confrontational, and peaceful. Look at the stats. I guarranty if you had a family member that faced this, you would see it differently. The facts are mental illness is grossly misunderstood, and difficult deal with or to understand.

Oh I do have family members who are dealing with their own mental issues and they have received medication and treatment just so they can cope. You can refer to me as an asshole all you want, but when someone starts threatening another Newtown and my family could be victims of that threat, whether carried out or not, well, that breaks all compassion! Sounds like you all feel sorrier for the Newtown shooter than you do for his victims!
I am not compelled to feel sorry or have compassion for anyone who threatens the life of another, especially children! The fact they even verbalize such a threat is enough to suspect insanity and if they have weapons about them that would help them to carry out that threat, then the LAW will take that threat seriously - mentally unstable or not!
If you are friends with this guy who wrote this threat, then it is up to you, his family and friends, to get him help. I happen to be the parent of school kids involved in this soft lock down that occurred because of his threats! I don't feel sorry for him - I want him locked away!
And for the record, it was THIS MAN who caused his own family this emotional turmoil. It is not the fault of anyone else but him. Put the blame where is lies.
If you have mental disorders, then get treated for them before you end up on the wrong end of a conversation or news event such as the one that occurred today. My family members certainly have, and they lead very good lives because of it.
And before you get all riled up saying we are discriminating against the mentally impaired, remember that anyone can snap at anytime. It's just those who have the warning of a mental issue are lucky enough to know that and seek treatment before they might snap.

Sorry, society isn't giving a "get out of jail free" card to anyone because they have mental illness. I have a nephew who knows this all too well. Know why he is incarcerated? Because he wouldn't take his medications and his mental illness "caused" him to do some very bad no-nos.

You're a total ididot. Mental illness cannot "fix" itself with medication. All the medication does is help alleviate the symptoms, the illness is still there. Do us all a favor and educate yourself on mental illness before you spout out your theories to "fix" mental illness.
I wasn't the one who used the word, "fix", you were! What the hell does the medication do for you then? Repair? Smooth over? Control? Alleviate? WHATEVER word it is that you choose to use, those who are medicated can cope and do live much more of a normal life. I do have empathy for the family. I did stop to imagine myself in their shoes. However, before friends of the family get too upset, they need to remember, the threat was picked up on FACEBOOK. The police are treating the situation exactly as the public would expect them to, especially in the light of recent horrific events. I would say threatening any school employeee would be a real (for lack of better word) STUPID thing to do on a public forum as fb any time (mental or not) but especially at this juncture in time. My child goes to Carson. The woman threatened was her teacher last year- So- I am pleased with the reaction of our police and grateful for our school district. I have all the respect for the families privacy in the world, but I have more respect for the right of my child to be safe.
