My professors never took roll. You're paying for college; if you don't want to use the ticket(s) you have already paid for, that's your decision and your consequences.

I started college in 1996 and we had to swipe our ID cards for attendance in every class then. I assume it has to be very common now.
Very common. My favorite are the clickers at some school. You can give them to friends, too. Or click them through a window or door, then take off.
those damn clickers cost $40!!!!
