Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Today is the day. Fortunately, I don't think the fate of the free world depends on the election.
  • The only thing that makes me worry about my Obama prediction is the "enthusiasm factor" which, admittedly, seems to favor Romney. Then I realized I live in Texas and that the rest of the nation doesn't feel like Fox News.
  • If I heard correctly, early voting across Texas was down. So why was Wise County higher this time?
  • That lady in the middle of the above photo is the mother of Alabama's starting quarterback, A.J. McCarron.
  • Something may have happened to an Alvord coach yesterday.
  • A top level DWI prosecutor in San Antonio committed suicide yesterday morning.
  • During the Tech/Longhorn game on Saturday, a UT player got jacked up on a helmet to helmet hit on a punt return.  That guy was absolutely knocked loony for a bit and then they carted him off. Stuff like that is beginning to bug me more and  more.
  • Bruce Springsteen campaigned for Obama yesterday. His music has never done a thing for me. (But Fox News was showing its age yesterday when a panel said that the only people over 50 who should have an earring are pirates.)
  • I don't know what happened but we had a bunny death. I picked it up from the back of the cage before I realized it. Ugh.
  • I think the Fourth Grader In The House might have suspected we had bunny issues when she told me, "You can go ahead and feed them tonight." Up until then, feeding them had been like Christmas for her.
  • The Mark Cuban / Donald Trump twitter fight is what I expect out of both of them.
  • The Update has huge news about the Bridgeport Hospital.
  • Wasn't there a time when liquor stores were closed on election day?
  • Question from one of the Kids In The House last night. "What's the difference between carmel and caramel?" I think I answered it correctly (after checking the Google.)
  • An arrest of a a Bridgeport football player for a minor offense?
  • I-35 got completely shut down in Dallas this morning due to a car fire. If you have access for Fox 4's Facebook page, here it is
  • Jay Z campaigned for the President yesterday and sang "I Got 99 Problems But Mitt Ain't One."

Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger, the former member of the American Communist Party, sang the Woody Guthrie song about communal ownership of America at Obama's inauguration (This Land is Your Land..). "As I was walkin I saw a sign there. And that sign said - no tress passin. But on the other side it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me!"

Do you realize that our constitutional rights have been slowly and covertly eroded since the passage of The Patriot Act? From executive orders to blatant orders by the current president to assassinate US citizens without charges or trial by jury, we are losing freedoms a little at a time. Sadly, you're so blinded by your blue goggles that even as a lawyer, you're fine with it since your golden boy passed the order to kill an American citizen. Had it been Bush, he would have been impeached that afternoon. If that doesn't make you angry, then you're beyond hope. I'd love for any liberal to rebut that point, but they can't.

RTG? Obviously, BG, your excitement level is down today! With good reason. You know deep down in your little chicken fried heart that even if your man wins (and he won't) that you have no hope that anything about this country, especially the economy, will be any better 4 years from today. You won't admit it but it's true. And it's true for about 80% of Obama's 2008 supporters. The thrill is gone. The thrill is gone away for good! That's why Romney will win today!

Ordinary folks have two enemies: big gov'mint and big wealth. Big gov'mint means well and is incompetent. Big wealth does NOT mean well, is sneaky, and is way more competent than the gov'mint ... which it pretty much manipulates (i.e., big gov'mint budget is spent on things which line the pockets of big wealth ... and big wealth don't have to pay for it).

Big wealth scares me way more.

But there ain't no winners down here in the rank and file, either way. We're all just appetizers.

Folks need to wake up, quit buying all the finger-pointing crap, and make up their minds that the thing to do is to be less tasty.

Obama will win.
Haters will hate.
Wordkyle will fume.

Well no, not exactly.

Bush signed The Patriot Act. What's your point? Show me where I sang any praises for him, please. Try to discredit my point another way.... Here's a hint, you can't. You're golden boy ordered the execution of an American citizen without trial. Just once, I'd love to hear an Obama supporter say that they can't excuse that, but they won't do it! You people would blindly follow that sorry excuse for a president off a cliff.

9:37...A Volunteer fire department is socialism? WTF man. What part of essential services do you not get. We are fighting against a socialized economy, not trying to eliminate essential community services, paid or unpaid. Once again, fire and police have nothing to do with a socialized economy like we see in the EU.

Hey Sparky, your comment about Fox News and the earring comment was taken, as you libs usually do with any conservative comment, way out of context. That comment was made during a rather long comment by Greg Gutfeld on the Fox show The Five, yesterday afternoon as a joke when talking about Springstein being with Obama the night before at an Obama rally.

Socialism and Communism look great on paper. Let’s all have the same stuff, the same social status, Government will provide free health care, and food, and energy, and housing………… everything will be all butterflies and rainbows.

The problem is that history, and human social sciences have proven that is not a possibility. There is always someone that “needs” more, or is “entitled” to more. In all other countries or societies that have attempted this way of life, the government officials are the ones that usually have more “needs and entitlements”. They play political/economical chess with the citizens. Trying to get “near” communism and/or socialism is a joke. It’s an all or nothing system, and since there has never been an “all”, and never will be an “all” example, then it’s all folly.

Those that are pushing for that system are already government officials, so they know they will end up being on top, even though everyone is supposed to be the “same”. The constituents down below that fall for all the “equality” BS, are so ill informed, or ignorant, that they don’t understand that things will only get worse for them, not better.

Well I know that our election numbers are up this time for where I live, at least for early voting doubt it really has anything to do with the presidential election though. We are voting to see if our town can go wet or stay dry, more people are up in arms about this, on both sides, than the presidency this time around. Pretty much every street has several "For" and "Against" signs in people's lawns, radio and TV spots, as well as newspaper articles, and that is all the opinion section of the paper is about. On the other hand I have only seen about 7 or 8 Obama or Romney sings in the entire town.

Rex Kramer,

SpanishWarDonkey said...

11:05, I agree that both parties blow. The republicans want what I've coined "Corporatocracy" which will devolve eventually into something similar to communism, I believe, where if you aren't connected to a Google or Wal-Mart,
you get nothing. The democrats want to see us in an Eastern European style socialistic democracy. France just raised taxes on their wealthiest citizenry to 75%... You can't run a country like that because all those that can will leave. It's time for a 3rd party to emerge in the country. The banks control both sides of the aisle and its sickening. I just wish more people would see it.

Anonymous said...

Listening to Rush just now, he put out a scenario just for discussion. It goes; What if we divided the country along the Mississippi river and all the folks voting for Romney lived on the west side of the country and all the Obama supporters live on the east. How long would it take for the folks on the east side to start trying to sneak across the river? Dig tunnels? Sky dive into the west?

Anonymous said...

11:34, Hopefully Graham will stay dry. That way Bryson and Newcastle trash will stay there.

Anonymous said...

1:25
Probably wouldn't take long for the tunnel digging to start. Republicans would want to sneak across to get healthcare because they couldn't continue their outrageous premiums cause by the monopoly created by insurance companies.

"Rule by an oligarchy of corporate elites through the manipulation of a formal democracy." While I generally agree with you on about 70% of the issues, if you can't see that this is one of the two places out country is devolving into, I can't help you. I'm by no means a 99% nutjob, but when you have a handful of
companies controlling most of the capital, they're going to be the ones dictating policy. Republicans generally want to lower taxes on companies that have the lawyers to see to it they pay nothing in taxes (see GE) and reduce regulation. In principle, I agree with these ideas for small business. Companies like Standard Oil and J.P. Morgan didn't get control of 90% of their markets by playing nice. You can say that can't happen again, but I would tell you men that deny history will soon repeat it.

Anonymous said...

1:25 We would have to work harder to keep our new border along the Mississippi safe from the illegal libtards than we ever have any other group coming into the USA! Once all the "Rich" people are gone, who in the hell would pay for all of their entitlements? I would certainly love to see that scenario play out! I can't stop laughing imagining their faces when they realize how their Utopia doesn't work without people that actually do!

Anonymous said...

2:18

You libs started this medical fiasco when you implemented Medicare in the 60's. Health care costs have been rising faster than the economy ever since the government got into the picture. How can this be so difficult for you libs to understand. If the government gets involved, the cost goes up and the quality goes down. Let the customer be the final decider on the service.

Anonymous said...

So, are you saying that the Bridgeport football player should have been cut loose because he is a student-athlete?

Anonymous said...

My biggest issue with Graham being "dry" is that it already isn't. You can go to most in town restaurants and purchase drinks, then drive yourself home, it seems that the "dry" people are ok with that, as well as the Internet gambling places and the head shop. On the other hand you are not allowed to go the a store in Graham and purchase the same stuff you just drank at the restaurant to drink at home, makes a whole lot of sense. Yes keep the tax dollars, umm I mean trash, in Newcastle and Bryson, just like any sensible person. Prohibition ended in 1933, it's time to move forward.

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle
I noticed you used car insurance instead of health insurance as your rebuttal. My wife and I spend $24000.00/year on health insurance. If I could find another company I could get insurance from, I would. The reason given by numerous companies is my blood pressure even though it's controlled. So I have a choice of dropping my insurance and have none or continuing to pay an outrageous premium. Yes I consider it a monopoly!

Anonymous said...

3:23
So should we eliminate Medicare?

Anonymous said...

3:06 You talk about the lawershelping republicans keep their corp money. How many republican lawyers do you know. The lawyers like democrats because libs do not believe in tort reform.

lkm

Anonymous said...

3:45..If you don't take care of your credit you will pay an exorbinant amount on auto insurance. In your case you failed to take care of your health and you are paying for those poor decisions. You probably have good credit because you valued that more than your health all these years, like so many of us do.

My point is, bad decisions come with a big price tag and for good reason. Can you imagine a world where healthcare was free to all...what incentive would you have to maintain a healthy lifestyle? What if you were never penalized for not paying your bills? How would that world look....we may just get the chance to find out in the next 4 years!!!

SpanishWarDonkey said...

Lkm, my sister-in-law and several of her law school friends are all republicans/conservatives to the best of my knowledge. If republicans really wanted tort reform, they would have pushed it in during Bush's early years when they had the opportunity. There's a difference in paying lip service to your constituency and actually doing something in DC. You should also note, lawyers work for the highest bidder, it doesn't matter what your customer's political leanings are as long as they pay their bill. Money spends the same, regardless of where it comes from.

Anonymous said...

Think you will find GE a
democratic butt buddy.

Anonymous said...

4:21, what a load of crap. You think that the only preexisting conditions are those that come from not taking care of yourself?

Let me tell you, there are plenty of diseases, conditions and/or cancers that don't have Jack $#!t to do with whether a person took care of themselves or not. And guess what, those people (hundreds of thousands BTW) get screwed by health insurance companies daily. Why, b/c health insurance companies don't care about taking care of people, they care about making $.

That is, until the new health care law was passed. Now, a high risk pool exists so that people with preexisting conditions can get insurance at reasonable rates.

I wouldn't wish an incurable disease on you just to make my point. But, if you'll get out of your bubble of BS, maybe you'll meet someone that does.

How about that hospital deal?

Bridgeport taxpayers are the big losers in the deal!

The DOCs got their new houses in p,aces like Holly Ridge so they did okay!

The Wise Regional gets the last laugh!

Sorry Bridgeport taxpayers. Better luck on the next deal!

wordkyle said...

345 - While I sympathize with your plight, it doesn't fit the classic definition of a "monopoly." For example, at ehealthinsurance.com you can compare plans from more than 180 different companies. So while you personally may be limited in your options, other options do exist.

On a related note, it doesn't take much imagination so figure that once the federal government starts controlling your insurance, your options will still be limited (even though you may feel "covered",) but in different ways -- rationing, long waits to see a particular doctor, refusal to treat (i.e., pay for treatment for) certain medical conditions, etc. The government will limit treatment for the same reason private insurers do -- to control costs.

A fire department is only essential if I call 911 for them to come to my house. School taxes are paid regardless if I have a kid in school or not. Both are examples of socialism, but the rednecks on the fire department will be the first in line bitching about Obama, while Bexar and Travis county burn, and Perry refuses to help the departments.

Corporate income tax is dbl taxation on the same dollar earned. It is one more way gvment hides the true cost of gvment from us. The corp. earns a profit, pays income tax on that profit (I believe that is up to a max of 35%), then when the remainder is passed through to the owner/s as income, the owner/s pay personal income tax on what's left (65 cents) of the same dollar of profit. Don't forget (actually, if you don't own one, or sit on a board, you would have no reason to know) all the other taxes corps. pay besides income tax. It is a very effective scheme these guys in D.C. have developed over the years!
