Hell, the House and Senate both passed amendments condemning the personal attacks on Petreaus; these passsed with bipartisan support and by wide margins. When the dust settled everyone realized Petreus' accounts were largely correct. I don't really think any one party picked Petraeus...In actuality Obama picked him for several jobs, the CIA being one of them. Both sides played politics on this one but Petraeus was not betrothed to one party as you suggest. A great American hero and patriot for decades who has made a terrible mistake in his personal life marriage. Since it happened when he was still in the military, he could be recalled to the military, demoted in rank, and punished for this mistake in a military court. Anyone who thinks he did this to avoid testifying is an idiot! He can still be subpeoned to testify and would have to appear before Congress, and would gain nothing from revealing this affair except to have tarnished a stellar military career and reputation.
