Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • There have been two arrests in the death of the Tanglewood homeowner who found the teenager dead after a botched robbery.  Recall his body was found in a burnt out car on what would have been the teenager's birthday. Police now believe he was strangled beforehand.
  • We had to dog sit three dogs last night due to an "emergency".  I felt like a Petsmart manager.
  • Conservative talk radio is discussing everything from changing its stance on immigration and abortion to "finding a more attractive messenger to convince those people we are right."
  • I never thought TCU and Kansas State the Aggies would do as well as they have in their new conferences but they've also done about as well as anyone could have predicted. (Does that make sense?)
  • I just don't remember as a kid the temperature being in the 80s as high school football season came to an end.
  • The first openly bi-sexual member of Congress is also a "Hey, Now."
  • I've watched probably 15 minutes of Pee Wee football/practice over the last two years but some of the coaches are way too hard and physical with those kids.  (I was a TXI Mustang, by the way.)
  • Kay Granger will speak in Rhome tomorrow. That's surprising. As in surprising she crosses the Wise County line.
  • Darrell Royal retired from coaching at 52.  Mack Brown is 61. (And everyone says that this long article about Royal published this week is really good.)
  • High school geometry looks harder than I remember.  And I saw words on a "biology spelling test" last night that I had never heard of.
  • "Mortgage giant Fannie Mae earned $1.8 billion from July through September [and] paid a dividend of $2.9 billion to the U.S. Treasury and sought no additional federal aid." Funny how all that worked out after all.
  • Great photo of a model of the re-creation of the assassination of JFK. (If that makes sense.)
  • I've seen one James Bond movie and that's because a girlfriend made me go see it in theaters. I don't even remember which one it was.
  • The new outfits by the Mavs Dancers are catching attention.

Republicans need to quit attempting to manage women's lives, get real on immigration, and genuine tax reform. Close all the loopholes and put that money toward our debt.

There is a case for conservative vlaues, but TEA party idiots are going to keep us out of office for the forseeable future.

And yet cut spending, but not just on those people we don't like.
Cut military spending as well.

We are probably 2-4 years away from having an open pedophile elected as well. Good to see these social stigmas fading away. Maybe in another 4 years we can elect elect a zoosexual!!! Hurray for America

I'm with you, BG. Was a cheerleader back in the day, and we had to wear sweaters in the last half of football season due to the cold. Now I'm not sure cheerleaders even have sweaters to wear. The autumn weather we have had this last week is the kind of weather I remember beginning in September - when September was part of fall and not the end of summer!

Republicans are not going to change their stance on abortion (I hope). Just change the way they present that stance. We never say that we want to outlaw all abortion, just let the states decide if they want to allow it or not. It is not a federal issue. Nor is it a Presidential issue. And if you think all abortions are OK, then you are a sad individual. Look at those new daughters of yours and think of how it would be if their mom had decided to abort any or all of them.

Anonymous said...

The fact that you think the Fannie Mae situation "worked out after all" only illustrates that you are not burdened with a clue. Trillions of dollars in debt, and you think it's a victory that they paid a miniscule portion in a dividend and didn't require still more "aid". No wonder you find junior-high geometry baffling.

But the Dems will have you believe if we don't raise taxes we are going over the Fiscal Cliff, which will happen no matter what. Good job Obama! You take all the money you want from the people and it wont be enough.

Guy burnt in car:
I called that one, although it was a fairly safe bet. Usually, when a person is "found" in a burnt car, they didn't die from fire/smoke inhalation.
Also car-related:
I forgot to comment on your goofy statement yesterday about the fatality-free day on Texas roads. It might make sense if you're talking about highways/interstates only, but if it includes all Texas roads!? Consider the thousands of miles of road in this state, and the thousands of drivers every day. It's amazing that there ever was a single day when there wasn't a fatality!

You'd think the average person would accidently watch several Bond movies over several decades. What's the reasoning behind purposely avoiding them?

"Only one Bond movie? If I didn't already know different, I'd think you was African-American. The only reason a black man got to watch a Bond movie is because of that one with Halle Berry in it. Otherwise, we've always been in the background playing chauffeurs and housekeepers. Might as well call 'em Still-in-Bondage films. You've watched one Bond movie. One!? ONE! I guess that's how you was raised."

Back in the old days, district football games ran to about Thanksgiving and I can remember one year where the last district game was after Thanksgiving. Only 1 team went to the playoffs back then and the districts were bigger. That means more teams played into late November than they do today.

I looked up the district from my Jr. year:

District 11 AA

Bridgeport
Decatur
Keller
Lake Worth
Northwest
Springtown
Whitesboro

Tea Party candidates were elected because voters want reform. They are about limited government and debt reduction;supported by the majority of voters according to polling on election day. More Republican governors were also elected to hold office. The Tea Party is not the Christian right social issues.

Fannie Mae worked out? Better check the facts. A quick search shows a report by AP in Feb. 2012 shows the the government had spent $116 billion in bailing out Fannie Mae. Doesn't sound like it worked out too good to me. And if you think they are done your nuts. Wait till the coming layoffs from Obamacare hit, not to mention the foreclosures that will happen when interest rates rise.

And they also bailed out Freddie Mac

10:13 and 8:48, Now let us just wait and see if Obama cuts spending on just those who he doesn't like! Sounds like to me he made it perfectly clear he was targeting one specific group through higher taxes and spending cuts...but anyone with a brain knows that was just to get elected, and he will have to dip into the middle class. When he realizes there are simply not enough households making over 250K to put a dent in the deficit the middle class will once again be called upon to make up the difference through taxes. Lets just see if his plan can restore enough jobs to the middle for this to even be a viable option. We are smack dab in the middle of the lost decade somewhat like what Japan faced.

Anonymous said...

Cleverly Disguised ,

Let's be honest on the pro/anti abortion stand. There isn't a politician out there that is going to touch this thing with a 10 ft pole if they get elected. Why? Because even IF all abortions were made illegal, there would still be back alley, black market abortions being done by crooked docs. Women would still use a coat hanger or broomstick to do what they want. IF all abortions were made legal, and a doctor was allowed to kill the baby on the way out the canal, there would be more clinic bombings, social unrest, and religious outcry. Is all that even worth going after once their in office?
Nope.

So why is it a hot topic? Far left, and far right like to stir the pot, and make their points known. Bottom line....I foresee some legislation being done to regulate it, but not abolish it. When one regulation goes too far one way, then it will be argued about, protested about, and end up going back the other way. The pendulum will continue to swing each direction. Like everything else in society, there will be more red tape.

Conservative talk radio is discussing everything from changing its stance on immigration and abortion

Wait. The Republicans on this blog claim they won't compromise principles for votes. What happened?

Oh yeah, they'll compromise any principle for votes. I forgot.

They might also consider thinking that rape is a bad thing that God abhors, not God's Machiavellian way of bringing a life into the world.

to "finding a more attractive messenger to convince those people we are right."

Yeah, because that Obama is such a good looking guy. That's why he gets votes.

I've watched probably 15 minutes of Pee Wee football/practice over the last two years but some of the coaches are way too hard and physical with those kids. (I was a TXI Mustang, by the way.)

I'm with you, and I played football for 16 years, and rugby for five.

Darrell Royal retired from coaching at 52. Mack Brown is 61.

Mack Brown brings in cash. His winning record is of secondary importance.

"Mortgage giant Fannie Mae earned $1.8 billion from July through September [and] paid a dividend of $2.9 billion to the U.S. Treasury and sought no additional federal aid." Funny how all that worked out after all.

Maybe Bain Capital should buy it. That would make it lose money again.

We are probably 2-4 years away from having an open pedophile elected as well.

Wise County Pastor, is that you?

Was a cheerleader back in the day, and we had to wear sweaters in the last half of football season due to the cold.

Ahhh, that brings back memories for me, too. Cheerleader sweater puppies. I'll be in my bunk.

We never say that we want to outlaw all abortion, just let the states decide if they want to allow it or not.

That's what GWBush said about gay marriage. The Massachusets allowed gay marriage. First words out of Bush's mouth: "We need a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage."

Fool me once...

It is not a federal issue.

Then your Republican Congressmen should STFU about it.

Nor is it a Presidential issue.

The Romney shouldn't have endorsed the rape baby Republicans.

Look at those new daughters of yours and think of how it would be if their mom had decided to abort any or all of them.

It'd be quieter in the house, that's for sure.

When you win an election by compromising values, what do you have?

Control.

Tea Party candidates were elected because voters want reform.

No. They were elected in small pockets or red states where the tea party has hijacked politics. They will never win a true state-wide election where there is a moderate alternative. They will only win in areas where the Republican they pushed out of the nest would have won, too.

Again, all you abortion supporters out there always forget that there is an innocent life involved in that decision and they pay the ultimate price for the wrong decision. Do they not deserve a voice? We constantly try to educate the public on this but the media always turns our words around to make it look like we want all abortions ended and mothers to be saddled with rape and incest babies, and that is not the case. Open your minds, discuss and listen to the opposing point-of-view. You don't have to agree, just listen and try to understand.

I am curious where libs would draw the line? just prior to birth? just after birth? after 1 year of age? after 5 years of age? When does it become murder and not "a womans right to choose?"

11:16: [sigh]. Again, all you forced-gestation and forced-birth supporters out there always forget that there is a living, breathing, already-born human woman involved. She's got her own rights, body, health, responsibilities (which over 60% of the time includes other living children, btw) -- does she not deserve a voice?

Your side always says "a woman's right to choose" with such dismissive contempt. There's no way to understand that attitude without seeing it for what it is: part of your overall dismissive, contemptuous attitude toward women, period.

And to answer your facile question: It's murder when the person involved is on its own a functioning human being -- as in, no longer dependent for its next breath upon the body of another specific human being (i.e. the person gestating it).

I know you probably stopped reading this some time ago, but you low-information types are always asking your bullshit rhetorical "when is it murder??" questions with the picture in your mind of healthy, almost-full-term infants growing peacefully inside the uteruses of lazy shiftless sluts who change their tiny little minds at the last minute (again, contemptuous dismissal of women FTW!), so I'm going to finish by re-(re-re-re-re)stating another fact: 88% of all abortions are done in the first 12 weeks of gestation. Later-term abortions are almost always either because finances or legal impediments have delayed the woman seeking the termination, or because there is something fatally wrong with the fetus or life-threatening to the mother. You find me one of the lazy, shiftless sluts who would abort an 8-month fetus just 'cause, and I'll eat the computer I wrote this on, Chuck.

You will run with anything you can find, no matter how suspect, to back your side(re-read your posts about the nationwide polls). I just think you are too entrenched in your own ideology to even realize when it is time to call BS on something. Your a spin machine, any attack on a conservative talking point, conservative ideal, or person and you put the blinders on and go to work. If you caught Todd Akin in the middle of raping a woman, you would spin it into that he shouldn't be in trouble because he was just trying to prove out his points that women cannot get rape preggers!
