Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • You've got to see the video of the plane hitting the car at the Roanoke airport over the weekend.
  • And that airport might be cursed. If I remember correctly, that's the third small plane crash at it this year, and that doesn't include the fact that it was the originating airport for the plane that crashed killing four people from Southlake.
  • We've got a twofer over the weekend: A wrong way driver hit a cop car.
  • A 14 year old will play in the Masters next year.
  • It's amazing how the popular vote is fairly evenly divided in every presidential election. I mean, we don't even see a 60/40 split these days.
  • And, no, I'm not backing off my President Obama pick.
  • I did the rare school drop off this morning. I needed someone in a tower to give me directions.
  • I watched 30 for 30's Ghosts of Ole Miss over weekend. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
  • I'm now into the second season of Breaking Bad. It's everything you told me it would be.
  • I fed three bunnies with an eye dropper and then dumped them in the small bathroom for a second while I cleaned their cage. When I opened the door one of them was staring at me from inside the toilet. Alive but wet.
  • I drove by the site of the big crash on 287 last week and saw about four people walking around the median looking for stuff. I thought they were just family members until I saw one guy with survey equipment. Lawsuit.
  • There was a 109.9 yard return of a missed field goal for a touchdown at a Texas high school football game on Friday. And the most amazing part is staying in bounds before he took off.

I've been reading several different blogs about tomorrows election.......in every blog, there is someone who makes a comment about straight ticket voting, either R or D......IF you vote, and every person that you wanted to vote for happens to be a Rep, or a Dem, then fine....but straight ticket voting for the sake of a party is just Ignorant. When the party lines become more important than the issues at hand, we have all lost.
Period.

I totallly agree 9:02!

Anonymous said...

9:02 - you are correct that the issues should drive our voting decisions; however, when one party insists on placing items in its platform that are inconsistent with an individual's own personal beliefs, then why in the world would that person consider voting for a candidate from that party? Personally, I think the Democrats as a group take a more humane approach to many issues that are important to me; however, the party leaders insist over and over again on making abortion a key part of the platform. As I don't personally believe abortion is appropriate, I can't vote for any candidate that runs as a Democrat, unless that candidate wants to tell me he or she doesn't take money from the party and doesn't endorse the platform (in which case he or she really isn't a Democrat, doncha think?). So yes, be guided by the issues, by all means.

9:02, You may be right, but someone who will even dare hang a "D" next to his/her name in these times will never get my vote. By doing so you side with the people hell bent on turning America into a nanny state. I will live with a few bad apples here and there but on Friday I enjoyed my first straight party vote ever! It was awesome!

Serious question. It has been stated here and there that there will be rioting if Obama does not get reelected. Do you think that could be true? Thoughts anyone?

I wonder how many of the good honest white folk that are on Food Stamps (over 1/2 the Food Stamp users) in Wise County will vote for Romney? I mean it's OK if white folks are on Food Stamps, it's just Negroes and Mexicans that are riding the gravy train.

So fundamentalists, after Obama wins tomorrow night, will you accept his victory as God's will?

wordkyle said...

1020 - Riots and violence after the election are less important than violence, threats of violence, and blatant cheating during tomorrow's voting. Obama supporters reportedly took over an early voting site in Houston, openly promoting Obama to those in line, while election officials sat by and did nothing. After getting away with voter intimidation in 2008, the New Black Panthers plan to "monitor" polling places again tomorrow.

Stuff like this is why I've maintained all along that Romney is the underdog in this election. When such activists have nothing to fear from authorities, they're capable of doing literally anything to ensure an Obama victory.

Anonymous said...

10:45...The "white folk" you mention are unlikely voters, maybe 1-2%. I doubt many of the people "riding the gravy train" have really educated themselves on the issues. I think most of the people in this income bracket vote based on skin color of the candidate. Obama could be announcing to the world that he planned to cut all welfare programs and he would still get all the black, low income vote. Sad but true for all races!

Anonymous said...

9:02 I would NEVER vote for a Democrat or Liberal, NEVER, no matter who they are.

The only qualification a Democrat or Liberal has is to run social programs. They are not qualified to run this country.

"So fundamentalists, after Obama wins tomorrow night, will you accept his victory as God's will?"

I know he is going to win and I am already at peace with it...you know the whole thing about worry about only what you can control. You see, God gave me a really good gift about 40 years ago...it was a brain. I use it to look past all the noise coming from pundits, the media, and really all the nutjobs on both sides politically. Wednesday morning I will wake up, go about my work and continue to do the things I love. If Obama intends to take more of my money to give to the masses so be it. I have always found a way to make more money, but I only got so much time and I don't intend to waste it worrying about him.

Abortion existed before him, gays were there before he took office, class warfare and racisim were there, gun laws were under attack, the American way of life was also under attack. The way I see it is I still will not kill babies, I still will not get poked in the butt, I will still love all no matter the size of their paycheck or skin color, if someone breaks into my house they will still get dead, and I will still have a nice dinner at the table with my family every night in a house I built, bought and paid for....and win or lose Obama will have little impact on my life because I will not let him.

plane hitting the car at the Roanoke airport

So, who was at fault? The moron driving across the approach to the runway with a plane coming in or the moron flying the plane trying to land on the first 3 inches of runway?

Anonymous said...

Why the polls are wrong is because their sample is based on the number of Demoracts and Republicians voters in 2008. Look at these numbers very closely:

wordy and the right-wing have already changed the narrative to blame Romney's loss on cheating. Ha! Yes, by all means, continue to ignore facts.

I certainly don't endorse voter fraud, but the number of documented cases of voter fraud in recent previous elections is miniscule. Additionally, while your reference to improper activity at a Houston voting site bears investigation, there's absolutely no chance that Obama will carry Texas. I'm not saying the activity should be allowed, but it has the same weight as running a stop sign in an abandoned town when there's not another car within miles.

Jesus Wordkyle, is there no end to your dishonesty?

First of all, that "takeover" took place in Acres Homes. If there was a single Romney vote in the blackest part of Houston, I'd be surprised. Second, the County Attorney openly disputed the account you cite, and it has been discredited by everyone there. If you cited an actual source, like the Chronicle, you could have seen that.

But I suspect you knew that, and are (as usual) being dishonest.

10:20: "It has been stated," eh? By whom? Could it -- might it possibly -- ohmygosh HAS IT BEEN -- by Fox "News" and fellow travelers? That's some vile, stupid race-baiting trollery right there, friendo. You'd do yourself a favor by learning to recognize it as such; you might live a less fearful and constricted life.

11:33: Speaking of fearful and constricted -- yikes.

11:41: You're speaking, of course, of the ballots tossed in the dumpster by Republican operatives? The registered Republican who just this day was arrested for attempting to vote twice? The voting machines in Ohio produced by a company Young Master Matt Romney invests in? The slashing of voting hours in places that lean Democratic? Yes sir or madam, there actually is a lot of cheating going on. Finally, something upon which we can agree.

11:52: Mighty, mighty big of ya.

Barry: I saw Ghosts of Ole Miss this weekend too! It was amazing -- and I ended up learning a lot. I thought I knew most of that stuff, but I had no idea how violent it all was, and truly terrifying. Top-shelf filmmaking on ESPN's part, once again.

Oh, wow, I feel so privileged to be off of the ignore list.

What you ignore is that the heavily Republican-controlled county attorney's office has denied that the polling place was "taken over" or that nothing was done about it. The County Attorney also says there was no wrongdoing. It boiled down to a group of activists asking people to let the disabled ahead of them in line, because the lines were too long. Local officials did not have an express line for the disable, which upset the activists. I assume that your argument is that the disabled are more likely to be Democrats? That's a stretch, even for you.

The blogger (!--are you now citing blogs as authority?) "Texas Sparkle" is a known Republican hack here in Houston. And you also cite Breitbart? Jesus. Neither of those people were at the scene, and the county did investigate.

You act like Obama drove up in Air Force One and unloaded AK-47-wielding black panthers to exclude Romney voters. And you cite bloggers for authority.

You could have cited the Chronicle where it quotes to the officials who were there or that led the investigation. That is not the Chronicle making things up. Instead, you cite two Republican bloggers and a second "story" (again, by a blogger) about the paper's credibility that is unrelated--and again is based on a blogger's version of events.

Finally, upon reading the "articles" you cite, the accusation appears not to have been made at all in the text. The original author said that the actions of the tea partiers drew complains and petitions by civil groups to various government entities. He did not say in the article you and Breitbart link to that they were "under investigation."

In fact, I searched the article for the quote mentioned by Breitbart (specifically for the phrase "under investigation"), and it was not even in the article he cited. Is he quoting from one article but citing a different article, or, like you, outright lying about the article's contents.

I know you pride yourself on providing links, but it appears that either you do not read them, or you do not expect others to. Not only did what you claim not happen, but at least one of the bloggers you cite is misquoting the guy they're complaining about.

Stop lying Wordkyle.

Right there with you.
While I voted for Romney, there is no serious impact on my life if Obama wins. Granted, there is an incremental change, and it is a change in a direction that I abhor. But I will not let it make me bitter or fearful.

My life's pretty good. House and land paid for, vehicles paid for, more work than I can actually handle, kids grown and finished college and doing well.

Selfish? I'm not sure why one who refuses to live in anger and fear can be considered "selfish." I'll continue to do what I've always done-make the best possible life for my family, help out neighbors when they're in need, and mind my own business.

The rest of ya'll just carry on with your fussin'. I'll stop by here once in awhile and gawk.

Anonymous said...

12:33 and 1:02...You missed my point. Obama being President has only the amount of impact on my life as I let it (speaking from MY experience is not selfishness)! I may not like it but it isn't the end of the world. I'll adapt to any changes he brings about.

Selfish, hah! I would bet my total charitable contributions last year alone were close to your yearly salary.

336 - You know what, you're right. The Houston Chronicle story that Breitbart linked to was the wrong one. The accusation that the Chronicle reporter made, but later backed off on, was in this story from April 25 (and not the linked story from April 28.) The Wordkyle Chronicle regrets the error.

Look at history! This election looks just like 1980! Carter was even in polls or just slightly ahead. He had an edge in electorial votes. Media said Carter would win but just barely. Economy was bad, people were mad, mood in America was not good! But media said Carter would win because Reagan was bad! Reagan got 489 electorial votes to Carter's 49! Reagan had 8 million more popular votes. History will repeat itself tomorrow! Romney wins with at least 300 electorial votes!

3:36 here. So the guy has backed off his statement that they were investigated by the DOJ, but you fail to mention that the Republican group still drew lawsuits and claims of voter intimidation? That's some pretty weak support for a pretty petty complaint you have there wordy. In griping about a newspaper's tendency to be honest, you provide proof of Republican voter intimidation. You should go back to logic 101. Work on some venn diagrams or some syllogisms or something.

wordkyle said...

718 - "Voter fraud" wasn't in that particular post, so your point is pointless. Your "facts" also seem a little...incomplete. Here's the poll watcher's account, which adds quite a bit more detail that your version.

825/336 - The Chronicle link was provided to show that newspaper's history of false reporting about True the Vote. As far as "lawsuits and claims of voter intimidation," that's the standard tactic Democrats use against any Republican effort to prevent cheating. The claims do not have merit simply because Democrats made them. The incident I cited in Harris County was an eyewitness account. The New Black Panther voter intimidation was on video.
