Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • Headline today: "Texas last fatality-free day on Texas roads was 12 years ago today." You'd think that would happen a heck of a lot more frequently than that.
  • Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh were all smiles and optimism yesterday.  I thought the future of America depended on the election?
  • Mrs. LL got up at 5:00 to do swimming/exercise.  Then we almost hit each other as I left for work and she returned.
  • The Fourth Grader in the House has yet to acknowledge that there are only two bunnies and not three in the cage.  She absolutely knows, though.
  • Fox 4 had a story last night on a dilapidated trailer park in Parker County between Azle and Springtown.  It was awful. No one should have to live in those conditions.
  • The NFL channel had a one hour documentary on Jimmy Johnson last night. It was great. Man, it's fun to see him and Jerry Jones in the beginning.
  • Maybe the best explanation of the election: There's just not enough old angry white guys.
  • WBAP's Hal Jay keeps saying "We need to get back to an Andy Griffith way of life."  Chris Matthews would interpret that as "code" for something else.
  • Heard by me: "It's yoyo for dinner." Me?: "Huh?" Her: "You're on your own."
  • Heard a million times on the news yesterday: "Fiscal cliff."
  • There's a Danny Thomas and a Burt Lancaster listed in the funerals in the Update today.
  • Those Obama girls sure have grown up, haven't they?
  • My blood sugar turned out not to be at a diabetes level but still high. I think I'm going to take a class on how to control it.
  • In honor of Darrell Royal, the Longhorns will line up in the wishbone on their first play on Saturday.  But I can't imagine them doing anything other than handing off to the fullback because running the true triple option isn't easy. And passing out of that formation would be very un-Royal like.
  • Sarah Palin was on Fox on election night and had a really drawn in face.
  • Ted Nugent on Obama's re-election: "I cry tears of blood for The Last Best Place & the warriors who died for this tragedy." "Goodluk America u just voted for economic & spiritual suicide. Soulless fools." "What subhuman varmint believes others must pay for their obesity booze cellphones birthcontrol abortions & lives." Sheesh.

The truth is that Rush & Hannity absolutely love that Obama won. In their constant state of angry, it's so much easier to just blame the President for everything. If Romney had won, they would have been stuck with blaming the Senate Democrats for legislative decisions and stuck supporting whatever Romney did otherwise, whether they liked it or not. That's not nearly as entertaining for their sheep.

The story on the trailer park I have always lived in a mobile home not always in a park and have always hated the expression trailer trash, it is the same with people and houses some take care of their places, some don't, people can be clean no matter where they are, then we have land-lords that don't care just want their money. I hope the little girl in this story comes thru okay.

8:36 you do understand that the Fiscal Cliff was created by the Congress b/c the R's & D's couldn't agree on things, right?

While W isn't to "blame", Obama really isn't to "blame" either. The Fiscal Cliff is a classic, "we can't agree what to do, so we're putting off our decision for a while, hoping that we have a better chance to get what we want when we have to decide."

Both the R's & D's allowed this situation. Since we still have a Senate/House split, we're likely to either get compromise or another delay.

I have become totally disgusted with the media post election as they now look to inflame we the people on some new issue to bring in advertisement revenue. For God’s sake Mark Davis was talking about who the republican nominee will be in 2016 even this morning. The conservative talking heads like to lament the “main stream media” as if they are not part of the same system owned by the same corporations. The media leaders are marketing geniuses. They decide what shows will take a liberal and conservative stance and then they polarize the people in the name of advertising profits while real debate is muted. I got rid of my TV 2 years ago. I'm ripping the radio out of the dash of my truck next.

8:38 you are spot on! People choose to live this way, you can give them anything & they will still choose to live like that. It's called "I don't give a crap living!" My ex-wife used to live in that trailer park. Shortly after she left me for a meth head loser, she ended up living there with him and some other meth heads. That place is a dump for sure. Then I realized it was all about the drugs and never had anything to do with me.

So sad about the little girl at the trailer park. These kind of people are the ones who seem to be born and bred to fail. They don't have to live like that. There are ways to live better, they just don't know how and don't know how to find the help they need. The property manager's hands are tied because the owner probably won't agree to pay for the repairs needed. There should be laws in place to shut these slum lords down. I hope the right people see this report and go in to get them out of there. It is a dangerous situation. Get the kids out! And, some of you sit back and brag about your money. These people are ignorant from the day they were born. They need compassion and education to stop the cycle. It has and can be done.

Anonymous said...

9:17 If what you say is true, I am not surprised your ex would choose drugs over you cause that is what drugs do to you. Something had to fill the media vacuum caused by that pesky campaign-ending election. I barely watch or listen to any news/commentary programs, and I'm already sick of the "fiscal cliff" term. I'm sure it's a real thing, and needs attention, but why do we have to hear about it (and the cutesy term they coined for it) non-stop?

I think you're thinking of "a Deputy Fife way of life". See, ol' Barn was nosy, suspicious, distrustful. Andy generally left people alone unless they were breaking the law. Even if he disagreed with a particular law, he enforced it.
And some folks still attempt the "Andy Taylor way of life" (see: most of middle America - you know, that big swatch of red states). Small town rural America, as a rule, needs fewer rules.
Didn't JesusSanta found this great republic with nothing more than a land grant from the king in one hand, a pair of stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments in the other, and a Teddy Roosevelt "Big Stick" "Don't Tread On Me" flag in yet another hand? With a bald eagle perched on his shoulder?
Those were the only laws we needed until some wiseguy yankee from one of them "New" states (not the Mexican one next door) started wondering "What if the a$$ I'm coveting doesn't belong to my neighbor - it belongs to a guy two blocks over?"

Yes. Please, Republicans, get back to "true" conservatism. You see, so far you just haven't been conservative enough. That's the problem. Rape babies? That's not the real issue. The real problem is that when women are returned to their true status as property, they won't be able to cry rape at all. They just become your property, because you made them yours. Reproductive rights? What does that even mean? It's not in the text of the constitution, so Jefferson never intended women to have that so-called "right". And what are all these Mexicans doing without a lawnmower or weedeater in their hands, anyway? Let's send them back to where they came from and make English the official language of America. If it was good enough for my grandparents, it's good enough for them.

And let's get rid of spending on social programs, and let the churches handle that like they were doing before the income tax existed.

That's the problem, we're just not conservative enough.

Conservatives will not abandon principles to win elections. The same cannot be said for Democrats. If you would study the history of your party, you would see that. Go look up some of JFK's old speeches on youtube. (You won't)You'd think he was a conservative compared to his party today! The truth is that liberals voted for themselves. Not morals, ethics, or the good of the nation. They voted for themselves and what the government (us) can do for them. That's it. Democrats, the party of me,not we.

Many of the Romney voters would happily describe themselves as "angry white guys". Many posters on this blog have described themselves as such. Perhaps the racial angle is not the best way to make the distinction, but it's not derogatory or negative.

Conversely, no Obama supporter would characterize themselves as "worthless bloodsucking leeches". That is derogatory and offensive, no matter whether you believe it or not.

When you say, "that characterization is just as accurate as yours" it is false, misleading and offensive.

There wasn't any mandate handed out, just an extension of the existing gridlock in DC.

The office of president gets the credit for good and bad budgets and defecits. Obama has built the highest defecit ever. And from this election you can bet NOTHING will be done to improve upon it. We can skip over the whole excuse game for him... after 4 years, its Obama's defecit. Period.

PS - I would like to see the exit polling that identifies votes by tax brackets... i.e. how much did you pay and who did you vote for. IMHO that would be incredibly interesting.

Democrats have sold minorities in America a huge bill of goods. Democrats have worked their economic and social plans on American blacks for fifty years, and what's the result? Blacks are as bad off now as they were originally, except Democrats have convinced them that they can't succeed without the help of their Democrat masters. Republicans would love to have more minorities in the party. But as long as minorities view themselves as victims and Democrats as their salvation, Conservative ideas won't appeal to them.

If we remain divided we will be unable to stand as a country. We are already becoming irrelevant to the rest of the world and it will only get worse. My heart breaks for our past, our present, and our uncertain future. The country I love is being destroyed by hate more than anything and every party is to blame. Not just one. My children's future is bleak at best but no one cares. Their only concern is me, me, me. We have sealed our own future and will reap the seeds we have sown. Ultimately this great experiment in democracy is waning. The destruction unfortunately is by the very liberty it was meant to create.
