New Spin Material

Paradise has a new newspaper. (And even a URL but with no website.)

Although the first issue sets a trend: Put the name of every kid in Paradise in the paper. (Heck, it works for Dave Campbell's Texas Football.)

Way to go Paradise!! Now, just be factually accurate and fair in your reporting, and you'll already be ahead of the Messenger!!

Uh-oh, Joe Duty better watch out, he's got some more competition!

It will probably go the way of The Boyd Banner.

Messenger haters annoy the hell out of me. I think they do a good job for a small paper.

haha, what businesses in paradise are going to keep that paper afloat in advertising? the timeout? they better sell a lot of crispitos.
i'm glad to see it surface, now maybe we can read more about decatur in our paper than paradise.

about time they got their own paper. probably tired of only hearing about Decatur in the COUNTY MESSENGER like the rest of the towns in this county. Way to go Paradise!!

Agreed, 10:27.

If Chico can do it, then I would think that Paradise could do it. You'd be amazed at what a small town can do!

i just saw it.
wow, is that the high school newspaper? that was about the quality of it.

12:17, Chico doesn't do it. The Chico newspaper is published by Bridwell Publishing, the same as the Index. Its almost a exact copy of the Index every week.

What is the over or under on the number of issues it takes before Andrew Rottner has his picture in it ?

Two...I'm just saying

So what if Paradise has a paper. Good for them. I don't think it's hurting anyone. The negative people should give it a chance. If it makes it, great. If it don't, then oh well.

if i was going to throw my money away into a small town paper, paradise is not the place i would lose it. i would go for:
Rhome - at least the news there is worthy of reading on a daily basis (not too mention the boom will hit there before anywhere else in the county)
or...
decatur - a decatur-only paper would do well with all the business. the WCM does not cover enough of it and im beting the day is coming where someone does this.

I don't think the Paradise paper is charging at this time. I bet if there were half naked chicks or the sexy firemen in it, no one would complain! ha

Don't belittle high school newspapers.

Years ago Chico did have it's own newspaper. It was four pages I think, and was called "The Chico Review" and contained all kind of local news. News like, so and so's aunt came down from Bowie for a visit Saturday afternoon and the like. It was interesting, because at that time Chico was not the booming big city it is now, and everyone knew each other. This made it more interesting as to who had a visit from whom, and who went where, and why. It was really a small town paper. Had a little advertising and local news. The Texan pretty much killed the Review when it came along, even though, as someone else stated, it was a re-hash of the Index.

Yes 1:53, all correct, but the Index puts a lot about the doings of the Chico schools and Chamber of Commerce.........

.......good, because that town is growing.

The Chico paper was owned by the Index at that time. At least it was back about 15 years ago when I worked for the Index (what a mistake) and wrote the Chico 'news'.

The Index is the only paper I know that will accept non-signed letters to the editor. It's almost the same as a blog - no repercussions for whatever you want to say about whomever. At least in the Index's letters, you could also bash someone by name, and NOT print your won. What a libelous mess waiting to happen.

11:52, I can't speak for when you worked there, but I know that they do require letters to be signed now.

Let's see...THursday March 13th edition of WCM. Front Page: Burn ban lifted (county), Appraisal district flooded (county), Mock Trial wins state (Decatur), College goes to vote (county), assault in Decatur (decatur). Sports cover: Chico baseball (Chico), Bridgeport tennis (bridgeport) Eagle baseball(decatur)....yeah, seems pretty onesided with only Decatur matters reported.
