A spare talk show hosts introduces John McCain by trying to rev up the crowd. He refers to Obama's middle name. McCain backtracks.
CINCINNATI, Ohio—A conservative radio talk show host who helped introduce Senator John McCain before a rally here Tuesday used Senator Barack Obama’s middle name, Hussein, three times, while disparaging him, prompting Mr. McCain to apologize and repudiate the comments afterward . . . .
“It’s my understanding that before I came in here a person who was on the program before I spoke made some disparaging remarks about my two colleagues in the Senate, Senator Obama and Senator Clinton,” he said. “I have repeatedly stated my respect for Senator Obama and Senator Clinton, that I will treat them with respect. I will call them ‘Senator.’ We will have a respectful debate, as I have said on hundreds of occasions. I regret any comments that may have been made about these two individuals who are honorable Americans.”
That should bring out the nut cases.

Good for McCain--and I'm a fairly "staunch" Republican.
Who cares if his middle name is Hussein? Hell I was in the Marines with a guy who's last name was Hussein and we were in Kuwait. I trusted the dude with my life for God's sake.
I don't like Obama, but not because of his middle name. If you're going to beat the guy down, do it because of his politics, not because of the name he was given. Sheesh.
It just goes to show that there are morons on both sides.
Right on Marine!
Making fun or a big deal out of the name someone was given by their parents is tantamount to making fun of the colour of hair, skin or eyes a person received from their parents. A rather childish act even for a Raging Right WingNUT Religican like Bill Cunningham. Cheers to John McCain having the INTEGRITY to smack down the grade school antics of Bill Cunningham.
I agree... don't blame him for his name... but how about we all think for a moment about the fact that he is MUSLIM... does not believe in GOD... will not say the pledge and will not place his hand over his heart during OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!!
Wake up people...
Hey 11:06;
Your one of Cunnigham's operatives, right? Go check out "snopes" before you continue to spread the right wing LIES!
hey 11:06:
While I agree that Obama isn't going to be the best man to be president, and as much as I would like to believe them, I do have to let you know that those things you said have been found to be unsubstantiated. They're just internet rumors. However, go ahead and attack him on the issues, that he's the most liberal senator in the country. Heck, even ted kennedy wants him. You remember him, don't you? He's the one who KILLED A WOMAN IN A DRUNK DRIVING CRASH and got away with it scott-free. He wants Obama so we can have "change". Well, Kennedy has been a senator for, what, 40 years or something? Let's change by making HIM leave!
and by the way, shame on you, barry, for trying to incite more ugliness in here. True, the talk show host was probably out of line, but McCain came back and showed a LOT OF CLASS! You need to at least give him a little credit for that.
And let that be a lesson for all you lib fanatics who ALWAYS resort to name-calling when you can't out-argue someone or bully them into submission! Admit it: The republican guy showed some CLASS!
I consider myself a staunch conservative but that guy is an abomination! An illustration of his deep conservative values ... After McCain rightfully put him down...this jerk immediately endorsed HILLARY! Get a rope!
Check this out "John Sidney McCain". No wonder he doesn't want anyone to make fun of O'bama.
Silly to make fun of Obama's name when there's so much about his politics to criticize. Not much "hope" in adding a United Nations tax to our financial burden.
This sure made McCain look regal/presidential.
I do question him saying, "I regret any comments that may have been made about these two individuals who are honorable Americans.”
Actually, I don't believe that remark. Also, I don't know if I agree that they are "honorable Americans".
But I could be wrong...
Ya'll need to go read the whole Cunningham speech. I have never heard of this guy before this, but you are not interpreting Barry's blip on it correctly. He was not making fun of Obama's middle name. He merely called him by his full given name three times. He also called him by his first and last name together and by his last name a couple of times. But he was not making fun of his name, he was attacking him on his record as a state senator in the Illinois legislature and some connection he might have had with Reznik and some possible sleazy deals he was involved in. He was definitely attacking him, but on his record not his name. Get the whole story before mouthing off.
11:06, Obama's not a Muslim. He's Church of Christ, just like a lot of folks here in Wise County.
You should wake up before telling anyone else to do the same.
hank u m&m
the leftys missed the point again
2:21 PM
His Church of Christ pays homage and allegience to Africa.
I don't know any Church of Christ in Wise County like that!
"You should wake up before telling anyone else to do the same."
Follow you own advice or shut up!
2:24 - leftys? where?
We could probably benefit quite a bit as a Country from having a Muslim President.
Church of Christ? I thought he was supposed to be Catholic? Its just a cover anyway. Does anyone really believe that he is a reformed Muslim & converted Christian? Hmmmmm? I smell a car bomb.
Since when is including someone's middle name "disparaging". Is it his name or isn't it???? Boy, have we put the kid gloves on for this guy or what? I don't want McCain to be my president if he cowers to junior reporters and apologizes in fear of reprisal for calling someone by their name.
All you right-wing DittoHeads remember that Rush does not like McCain. You have to do as you are commanded by El Rushbo, with talent on loan from God Almighty. You Zombies put on the Thriller CD, and start dancing. Change the lyrics a little to say: Rushler, Oh Rushler, we want to suck your Buttler, etc.
The reason he repeatedly used Obama's middle name, "Hussein," is defamatory is because it stirs up stupid prejudices. If his middle name was Muhammad as some errant emails claimed, it would just be false. How often do these people use Hillary's middle name (whatever it is) or Bush's (the W stands for Walker) or McCain’s (Sidney)? Obviously some simpleton wants to make some kind of deal over a name given to him at birth over which he had absolutely no control. My middle name is my mother's father’s name - so f---'n what?
4:57 - You're absolutely right. Stirring up prejudices would be as stupid as supporting Obama when you can't name any of his accomplishments.
By the way, what exactly has he accomplished? Or is it racist for me to ask?
wordkyle, It is possible to list several legislative "accomplishments" of Obama but how about you listing McCain's accomplishments? Like McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy or immigrant amnesty laws. When you list McCain's accomplishments, he comes out as a pretty solid liberal. Maybe Obama's biggest accomplishment is in overwhelming the Clinton machine to become the Democrats candidate. Second would be his demonstrated ability to actually "inspire" his supporters in a way not seen in my memory.
9:58 - I've been pretty vocal, as have many Conservatives, about McCain's similarity to the Democrats.
Obama's supporters, though, can't come up with anything he's actually accomplished, and hate to even discuss the subject. "Inspiration?" To do what? "Vote for Obama" is about as far as anyone gets.
The truth is that Obama is a classic Liberal in the traditional Democrat mold, exploitng class envy to get votes. Nothing new. No change. He's attracted followers by spouting hollow, meaningless phrases that add up to nothing.
Do you Obama followers agree with his legislation to create a new tax to be paid to the United Nations and given away to other nations? (That is, whatever's left after UN bureaucrats skim their share.)
Face it, Obama is a charismatic political opportunist who's been given a free ride by the media. The bumper stickers might as well say "Vote for Elmer Gantry."
