I come to bury Bobby not to praise him. He won 902 games at three schools. He was controversial and did a lot of stupid inexcuseable things, but almost all of the great coaches in the game respected him. I don't think anyone appreciates the chair throwing and lack of anger control. He did make his players go to class, make their grades, work hard in practice, play as a team player no matter how good they were. He was never accused of doing any illegal recruiting, changing grades or violating any NCAA rules.
He was tempermental and could be obnoxious on camera, but a significantly higher percentage of his players actually graduated than under any other successful coach over the entire span of his career. And that says something about him that the media usually didn't.

I'm with anon 8:23, this mid-season bail out is awfully suspicious. Doesn't seem like the Bobby Knight we all know so well.
Whether he slapped a kid around or choked him out I don't know but,there's a chupacabra in the woodpile somewhere here.
