Sketchy

Don't know much about it, but about 2 miles north of Decatur on 730 a guy ended up in a ravine after swerving to miss a deer.

On a similar note, the Star Telegram had an article today on the dangerousness of 380.

That Startlegram article made it sound like 380 was a 2 lane all the way from Decatur to Denton. The Wise County section is a good road. It's the Denton County section that needs work.

I noticed they tried to work in some blame for rock trucks. They either are too fast or they are too slow. They can't do anything right. (Note: check out what you are driving on before you gripe about rock trucks.)

Of course the poor old state doesn't have the money to widen the road (I thought Republicans were supposed to be the ones good with money???)so we will just flood it with DPS and turn it into a revenue road. Ka-ching! Problem solved (cough).

The real problem they did get right, bad drivers. People have to realise they do not in fact own the highway. Their car is not a Mechwarrior battling thru traffic on to victory. They are not Dale Earnhardt or Junior. They are on a public roadway and have to behave.

What ever happened to the old Texas motto, "Drive Friendly!"?
I don't know if it worked or not, but it couldn't hurt. I guess in the meantime we will have to watch the herd continue to thin it's self and take the innocent along with them.

Wow, the article actually brings up the unsafe driver angle instead of just blaming the road. Excellent.

"That Startlegram article made it sound like 380 was a 2 lane all the way from Decatur to Denton. The Wise County section is a good road. It's the Denton County section that needs work." THAT STATEMENT 1:08AM IS A CROCK OF CRAP. THE CURRENT CONTRACTOR IS OVER A YEAR AND A HALF BEHIND, MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THE CONSTRUCTION, AS WELL AS MANY INJURIES. I LIVE IN SEVEN WIRES AND WE HAVE ASKED THE DECATUR MAYOR TO HELP, THE SHERIFF, THE HIGHWAY PATROL, AS WELL AS TXDOT. TXDOT'S, BILL NELSON IS A F$#&ING JOKE. APPARENTLY SITE CONCRETE HAS GONE BANKRUPT, FINED $200,000+ FOR BEING BEHIND AND THE DAMN ROAD GOES UNDER WATER EACH TIME IT RAINS..........HWY 380 FROM JACKSBORO TO DENTON SUCKS

Drove to Denton and back on Saturday - didn't see any DPS - where's the flood? Did see cheaper gas at $2.78.

Calm down, 8:12. When 1:08 made that comment, I think he was only talking about the Wise County portion of 380 between Decatur and Denton; NOT the 380 fiasco between Decatur and Bridgeport.

I have 3 points:
1) While the article focused on the Decatur to Denton stretch, it ignored the Decatur to Bridgeport construction fiasco. As earlier noted Bill Nelson continues to make excuses for the 1 1/2 year delay in its completion. As a project manager he must be among the worst TxDOT has. I think Nelson should be required to personally apologize to anyone injured on that stretch of road since its original completion date passed. He should have to attend every funeral of those killed.
2) How in the world are the statistics from the state on accidents current only through 2002? TxDOT says "Statistics do not include 2003 because the information has not been entered into the Transportation Department database. The 2007 statistics may be incomplete". Just how long do you think it should take to enter those numbers? About as long as my current rant on this blog? Do you think it would help to ask Phil King to fix this.
3) Highway money from the Feds has been cut. Sure. It's because we spend $15 BILLION a week for Iraq war expenses. We should add these US highway deaths to the daily death tolls in Iraq!

In other news: The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wesley Center in Decatur for its annual Christmas dinner. For more information, contact Steve Hilliard at (940) 627-6851.

Funny how Republicans even get blamed for road construction delays. Demos are the best at finger pointing.

FOR THE PERSON WHO LIVES IN SEVEN WIRES, WHY WOULD YOU ASK THE MAYOR OF DECATUR FOR HELP YOU LIVE SEVERAL MILES OUT SIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS HE CANT DO ANY THING FOR YOU AS FOR THE SHERIFF AND THE HIGHWAY PATROL THEIR HANDS ARE TIED ALSO , TRY GOING TO THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND TX DOT IN AUSTIN FOR HELP.I KNOW IT PROBABLY WONT HELP EITHER WE ARE JUST THE LITTLE MAN IN A BIG MANS WORLD.

Anon 8:12, the last time I checked 7 wires was between Bridgeport and Decatur not Decatur and Denton.

You can also sign your post instead of hiding as an Anonymous poster if you want to trash my post.

BTW, good luck gettingt the City of Decatur to fix a State of Texas roadway.

I drove 380 almost everyday last week and didn't see one cop outside of Denton city limits.

Wonder what HD Boswell would have to say? He'd help us out!

the reason you dont see many dps units out there is because it is too dangerous for them to make traffic stops on this stretch of road

I still think Bill Nelson needs to attend to all accident victims of that Decatur to B'port strech due to the prolonged delays in its construction.
