Mall Shooting

With the bad deal in Omaha yesterday, I was reminded by WBAP this morning of the shooting at Irving Mall in 1993 when a guy got shot in the head at the food court. I think the victim had a famous name, but I haven't looked it up yet.

And I'm convinced the WBAP's Hal Jay (who is now co-hosting a one hour show between 8 and 9 with Mark Davis) may be the dumbest man in America. He asked this morning whether it would be legal for a licensed conceal and carry guy to shoot the killer yesterday if the same mall shooting had happened in Texas. Then he asked if the shooter in Omaha did it for publicity. Uh, the suicide note where he said he wanted to "go out in style" might answer that question. But Hal, who had been listening to the news all morning, didn't know there was a suicide note.

legal or not, an armed citizen would be obligated to shoot him, maybe he would of kill only 3 or 4 before being taken out.

what would you do? call mall security.

God help us

A good poll for you Barry.

How many people have:

a) license to conceal and carry but don't carry.
b) license to conceal and carry and carry sometimes.
c) license to conceal and carry and sleep with your gun.
d) don't have a license to conceal and carry.

Answer to the impromptu poll:

I have a CHL, I carry in my car, at work, at church (yeah, I know but remember what happen in Ft. Worth several years ago), when I sleep, when I go to Wal Mart, when I get gas... bottom line is that one never knows when these crazy asses will strike, so I'm always ready to defend myself and my family.

I guarantee that these guys are real tough when they have all the power but all it would take is one round zipping past their head to get them running out the door.

My wife won't let me have any guns :(

.45 - do you wear a helmet when you drive your car? Because you and your family are more likely to die in a car crash than from a lunatic gunman. Better stay away from swimming pools too.

In reality, you are probably not really concerned about stray bullets at work or church; just carrying a gun around like that makes you feel like a real bad ass.

You're the "crazy ass" that I worry about.

Barry- lighten up on HAL J. He really has his funny moments. I miss his old bit with Haywood U. Suemee. (Are you a closet anti-semite, the current popular flavor in the Democrat party?)

1:23,

Just lock yourself in your house, sit in the corner naked rocking back and forth sucking your thumb and you won't get hurt. Is that simple enough for you?

I'm not going to let a lunatic deter me from going to the mall or out to eat. It's my right to carry so by God I'm going to do it. If some road raging jackass wants to follow me home one night and take out the fact that he got fired from his $20,000 a year job driving a garbage truck and has 10 kids to support on me, then I will protect myself accordingly. I've seen crazy people driving down 287 smashing their cars into each other because one guy cut the other one off, so they pulled over for a fistfight. I've been in a Subway where two homeless guys came in and started digging through the trash and threatening the employees. I just ain't gonna be caught with my pants down and let myself be a victim. Chances are I'll go through life with no conflict. But that's what those people in the mall in Omaha thought too.

I'm sure you'd feel differently if we were in the same restaurant and a disgruntled employee came in blazing away and a CHL hold took a shot at him forcing him to stop shooting long enough for you and yours to get to safety. Then you'd be singing a different tune.

Yeah the chances are slim, but I'd rather be armed when I don't need it than unarmed when it's crunch time.

I have LEGALLY carried a 9mm Glock since 2000 when I obtained my Texas CHL. The ONLY time I do not carry my Glock is while I am skiing or while I am traveling via commercial transport.

I sleep with my big Glock in my hand and sometimes during the night it discharges accidentally.

People actually listen to Mark Davis and Hal J......
Why?

mzchief - you wish!

My friend's mom was at the mall when it happened.

Thank goodness for JC Penneys.

Look nutjob, how can you reasonably believe you might be the target of a crazed gunman? That sort of thing happens sooooooo not very often at all. So, some homeless guys digging through trash gets you all frightened? Or worried another guy might challenge you to a fistfight? If so, you need to grow a set. But, instead, you'll lug that pistol around with you for the rest of your life because you're a little scaredy cat.

BTW - I have many, many guns - even pistols - and have even considered getting a CHL. But I would never carry a damn gun into work, church or even a restaurant.

Rayguns don't vaporize Zorbonians. Zorbonians vaporize Zorbonians.

an armed society is a polite society.

truth is its harder to by and own and carry a gun now than it was 20 yrs ago. all the background checks and waiting periods and regs and the brady bill did nothing to deter crime, but it has given a tyranical government an acurrate list of the law abiding citizens who own and carry guns, and thats what gun laws are really about.
