That was too cute. What would have been cuter is if it had been aborted and the stem cells could have been used to make Michael J. Fox quit shaking

You are truely a sicko. There are unused embryos being destroyed everyday that could be saving lives.

6:44, You are a dumbass. There is no promising research with embryonic stem cells. All the promising research is with cord blood stem cells or adult stem cells. You are being taken for a fool when you are told and that you believe that embryonic stem cells will cure parkinson's or spinal cord injuries. I was making a joke and you fell for it. Please inform yourself before you make stupid statements.

I saved this clip, and I promise to refer to it prior to posting any evil comments on B's blog. It made me laugh. I enjoyed it. I still think I will post evil comments on this blog though.

Anon 8:18 You’re the dumb ass for falling for the bogus crap the Bush admin is saying about stem cell research. Some of the people on this blog are not only lawyers but scientist. Look up words such as blastocyst, totipotent, therapeutic cloning, and take about 6 years worth of chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics. Then come back and we will have a serious discussion about this. Other wise keep your uninformed comments to yourself.

Hey 10:50, Present some facts and then we will have a discussion. Embryonic stem cell research is like throwing money down a rat hole. Like I said, cord blood and adult stem cell research is what is showing the most promise.

Start here. Then pick up any college biology book, look up stem cell research and read.
This has been written up by the Mayo Clinic. Grab a dictionary you will need it.

The following is a direct quote from this article:
Embryonic stem cells have tremendous therapeutic and research potential to produce any tissue of the body and to grow unperturbed in plastic culture dishes for many years. Adult stem cells do well in repairing their organ of origin but have limited capabilities.

Here is another:

http://www.stemcellresearchfoundation.org/About/FAQ.htm#4

Scientists think that embryonic stem cells have a much greater utility and potential than the adult stem cells, because embryonic stem cells may develop into virtually every type of cell in the human body.

Anon 11:40 What you are saying about adult stem cell research is just bullshit propaganda. You can say it until you are hoarse, scream it as loud as you can, type it until you fingers are bloody, misquote the info I gave you, you will still be WRONG.

Why is all private funding going into adult stem cell research? It's because people that understand the promise of it are not wasting their money on embryonic research. The liberals that want federal funding are just money grubbing nitwits that have been led to believe it is the answer. If it was, then why aren't private investors putting up their own money for it? Would you invest in something that shows no promise? Follow the money.

Anon 12:22 Oh YES! Let’s follow the money. Let’s follow the Senate Majority Leader, who I believe is Republican and Arnold another Republican. Private funding is going into both embryonic and Adult stem cell research. Once restrictions are removed you will see more money go into embryonic stem cell research.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist endorsed government-funded research on human embryonic stem cells Friday, breaking with President Bush and the religious conservatives he's been courting for a 2008 presidential bid. He drew praise from former first lady Nancy Reagan.
The market reflected Frist's announcement, with shares of stem cell research companies rising Friday. Shares for Geron Corp., which researches embryonic stem cells, rose 74 cents, or 7.2 percent, to close at $10.95 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.

New Developments in California's Stem Cell Gold Rush
2:00 - 3:30 PM
Room Number: 427BC
Since the passage the $3 billion California Stem Cell Research and Cures Act in 2004, the state has been on a fast track in developing a scientific research grants process that will fund $300 million per year over 10 years in basic and applied research involving embryonic and other stem cells aimed at finding therapies to cure many life-threatening conditions and diseases. This research is already generating a movement of scientists and companies to California to fill the void created by a federal policy that severely restricts NIH funding of such work nationally. Experts on this from the field of academia, private and public companies and from the CA Stem Cell Independent Citizens Oversight Committee will discuss progress made in developing the grants program, initiating funding and in research and development in the stem cell field in California as well as how California’s work in this field is supplemented by that of other states and countries.

In this case, there does seem to be a bottom in place. For investors with strong stomachs, these volatile stocks could provide a nice kick in the portfolio no matter which party wins at the ballot box

Let's follow the Bible and let God be God

Let’s understand that not everyone is your type of christian or even a christian in this country. You pushing your theocracy on the rest of us is very intrusive on others lives. I do not go into your home and make you believe like a Hindu, Buddhist, Scientology, or anything else. So STOP trying to make your bible everyone else’s laws. You want to live by those laws do so in your own house and life. Just leave the rest of us alone. If you want to make this a political thing, most of my family are republicans and atheists. Try and rap your brain around that. They feel the same way. You bible belt christians don’t seem to understand that the rest of the world, no matter what political affiliation or religious dogma, believe you are just plain ignorant.

You are all f-ing nutballs! It's a video of a cute kid giggling. Nobody gives a shit about your politiical views. Why don't you anonymous nutballs just go to a nutball chatroom and spank each other!

Anon 4:53
These are not political views. These views may save or destroy the life of that very sweet baby. These are scientific and medical views. I see you have set into the apathy that permeates TX, that allows the elites to take your money and decide what type of medical treatment you are aloud to have. PLEASE everyone, even if you have a different point of view, WAKE UP! Pay attention to what they (I am taking about both sides) are doing to us through media, politics, interest groups, and religion to maintain power.
Anon 12:22 You gave up too soon. There were some excellent articles out there that you could have counter pointed me on. You still would not have had all the info. but at least people would have had two fully informed points of view and we both would have learned something along the way.

Anonymous said...

7:12, Yes, we know you can find counter arguments opposing embryonic stem sell research. However, check the scientific and medical credentials of the sources. Just about ALL informed scientists endorse federally funded stem cell research. The possible results are not now known, but the indications for important medical breakthroughs are very promising with further embryonic research. Yes, continue adult cell work as well. But don't prohibit federal funding for the most promising research. And please acknowledge that, indeed, the embryos to be used were to be destroyed anyway. They are not going to become the giggling baby ya'll so adore.

Anon 7:56
YEAH!
There is another angle to this.
Umbilical Cord Blood stem cells.
While embryonic stem cells are the most plastic (can become anything) of all the cells. Cord blood is more plastic then adult stem cells. If someone has access to their cord blood they can use that instead of embryonic stem cells because embryonic stem cells run the risk of rejection. So that cute baby would have solutions to 45 problems (so far) they may have in the future. There is a solution in here somewhere, but we need research to do it. How about we all stop listening to the radical ideologs on both sides throwing bombs at each other to stir us up, start looking things up ourselves and finding solutions to some of these problems.

Here is an interesting article about this.
Cord blood yields 'ethical' embryonic stem cells. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7864
