All rhetoric aside, murderers don't typically rethink their plan of action due to the lack of availablitly of their weapon of choice. Criminals aren't going to stop because of a new law. They have already established themselves as being law breakers.

If these executive orders were needed now, why didn't he enact them right after the Gabby Giffords shooting, the Aurora shooting or the Ft. Hood shooting? You like to think these orders will save lives, which it won't, but in your way of thinking he could have saved many lives if he would have done it sooner.
I think that this current gun thing is a national panic, aided by the media, to make it look as though government is addressing a statistically insignificant school shooting problem.
The government can't legislate against crazy and/or "evil" in an attempt to save lives.
More people die, every year in the US, due to obesity than gun violence. I guess we all should be waiting for the ban on fast food, sweets and treats. It makes as much sense as giving up guns and ammo. Rather than focusing on the substances that people misuse/abuse let's focus on THEIR behaviour.
However, in the world of Left-wing Loony Liberals, it's always better to blame the substance than hold people responsible for their own actions.
One simple question: why are there so very many more deaths per capita from firearms in USA than in any other advanced country? We hve many times the number of guns and many times the number of murders - of school children, store owners, wives, husbands, friends etc. BTW far more killings are from handguns than rifles.
The US doesn't even rank in the 20 as most murders per capita. As for death buy firearms. It's the weapon of choice wherein some nation's murderers prefer machetes, hammers and bombs. Oddly, the US does have the highest homicide rate among industrialized nations and also has the highest per-capita population of black and Hispanic residents. Globally, blacks and Hispanics account for the majority of homicides.
That being said, I will venture to say a lot of the homicides in the US are do, largely in part, to the break down of families and communities. Of course there will always be the random nutter from whom there really is no viable precautionary defense.
