Dangerous and Stupid! As a parent of one of those players, I would hope they might rethink this before something goes wrong and kids get hurt or worse!
Oh good grief 10:26! They are used to landing among people and in tight places. That is what a helicopter is for...remember? In the 8th grade Decatur/Bridgeport game years ago in Bridgeport they landed on the field to transport an injured Bridgeport player. Your child playing football is Waaaayyy more dangerous! Just saying:)
10:26...Really!!!!!I swear, why do people have to wake up everyday and find stuff to complain about. I sorry your life sucks. Not everybody in this world is negative. Read the bible...Jesus can help.
This isn't the first time they did this either. In 2006, not the last game at Decatur but the game before, they did this. My son was 3 then, and he never forgot it. He was expecting it in 2008, and was disappointed when they didn't do it, I think because of fog. He was so excited to see it this year. I think it's cool. A bit frightening to think what could happen if something went wrong, but about the same kind of thoughts as when you're on an airplane and imagine the worst. That helicopter was so painted so cool, too. Especially to follow the raising of the flag by the police officers.
The chopper probably has more space landing here than they would landing on the highway at an accident. I tell you what - the next time that you have a serious accident, we will tell them to not call the helicopter because it might be dangerous!
As the old saying goes, you would probably complain if you were hung with a old rope!
There are lots of great things going on in this world. You should get out of your mood and actually enjoy them!
Let me get this straight...A medical transport helicopter, that charges an ASTRONOMICAL amount to transport a critically injured person, transports, at no charge, a football to a game. There is SOMETHING really OBSCENE with that scenario.
It is unnecessarily dangerous. Of course, the folks in Wise County who buy their 2 year olds 4-wheelers for Christmas only to have a few fatalities each year will not think it's dangerous at all.
SOMEBODY (somebodies) had to pay for the FUEL in that chopper at the very least! WHO paid this bill? Did both schools pay for this or was it only Decatur since the game was at their field?
Who CARES if it is the battle of big sandy..... it is NOT the friggin' SUPERBOWL!!!
I bet if Decatur had there turf Story wouldn't allow the chopper to land there. He would probably have them land behind the stands and have the pilot run the ball over there.
The company probably donated this to the school. They can write off the operation of the helicopter as a donation in their taxes. Besides, it wouldn't cost much to fly across Decatur.
im beginning to believe that decatur high school football has become more about the johnny punchclocks and joe lunchbuckets sittin' in the stands rather than the kids that are out there on the field.
I agree, Dangerous! It was not long ago that they crash landed at the Decatur Hospital. If anything goes wrong....too many people, light poles and so on. With an aviation background, I think it will most likely not be repeated.
um 2:26, this WAS a repeat of other times this same stunt was pulled. Expensive, Dangerous, and economic times do NOT support this type of frivolous decision.
Why is the Decatur/Bridgeport rivalry a big deal anyway? It should have been Boyd and Decatur....after all they handed the eagles their tailfeathers at State!
As a helicopter pilot, I will tell you the risk was minimal. They have a greater chance of being paralyzed playing then the helicopter hurting them. Sheesh!!
The feds are creating some new rules for medical helicopters as they have a very high record of crashes.Fly in them if you need them but otherwise leave them parked.
The helicopter pilots have to log a certain amount of hours in a month, so this stunt probably helped them fulfill those hours because they have to complete them even if there are no emergencies that require a helicopter lift.
You have a better chance of being bitten by a rabid dog playing a banjo or have a barking chicken chase you than you do having a helicopter crash and take out all of he complainers on here.
OH, you mean like the "chances" of a federal building in Oklahoma being bombed? Or "chances" of commercial aircrafts being used as live torpedos in the tallest buildings in our nation? Yea... disasters don't really happen. So let's just keep putting our kids in harms way unnecessarily. It will only take ONE time people...only one for something awful to happen and pieces of helicopter taking people out left and right? ( Have you ever seen what goes "flying" as schrapnel in a helicopter crash?) I guess you idiots are just fine with putting your children out there, but I am sure not! This was UNNECESSARY and COSTLY! Don't be talking about raising my school taxes!!
blah blah blah....if you're so worried about your kids' safety, keep them off the field. Stats of deaths and paralyzation from spinal/neck injuries related to football are way higher than those from a chopper crashing on them! You folks are plain idiots.
I think Bridgeport has won well over 20 games of the series. whatever happened to the 2012 guy? i figured this would be a good spot to throw one of his silly 2012 posts.
FUEL question... To answer that question, we all paid that bill. Wise County EMS fees are paid by you (and me) the taxpayer. This helicopter, even though owned by an out of state company get your dollars to operate. Bling Bling!

10:26 - OMG - This is the battle of big sandy. The helicopter was awesome to watch & the excitement was on both sides of the stands. Quit complaining.

Did it cost MONEY to have that helicopter fly in? That's the ONLY questioned I want answered.

stupid. this is AAA high school football for Christ's sake.

Dang, 1:21 beat me to it!

just add "rock you like a hurricane" over the p.a. system and you'd most certainly have full blown idiocracy.
Oh BS 1:30 PM! They would charge you an arm and a leg to fly across Decatur!

Should not be done for shear liability issues alone.
State, 2:49? We're not even in the same division. Decatur is 3A, Boyd is 2A, or maybe it's 1A.

Copter's do not crash.
Fools!!!!!!
What are da odds!!!
Surely the school board thought about this before agreeing to it.

Relax.
There were other issues during the big game, too:
www.wcmessenger.com/blogs/mom
you people who are afraid of the helicopter crashing into the stands are a little "slow" aren't you?
there is a higher chance of getting killed in the car on the way to the game.
I've seen some of you and I'm thinking there's a higher chance of you choking on a turkey leg..
You have a better chance of being bitten by a rabid dog playing a banjo or have a barking chicken chase you than you do having a helicopter crash and take out all of he complainers on here.

Now, that's funny, I don't care who you are.

Helicopters are evil. Period! Next time fly a 757 in, its much safer!
Has Bridgeport won 20 games in the 90 years of the series? Doubtful.

WCEMS has nothing to do with this.
So...
Isn't Taxpayer paid Free?
Who made the decision?
Who is accountable for the expenditure?
Wasteful!!!
It's ok as long as Tom Bishop is not in the pilot seat!!!
