Man, you've got to be old to enjoy this. I remember as a boy sitting around and watching Dragnet. It always ended the same way, with Detective Joe Friday and Officer Bill Gannon giving a speech to some guy they had apprehended after spending 30 minutes of tracking him down. It was great television.
Since the anti-Obama crowd appears to be older, white, and Joe Friday disciples, I thought they would like this. Heck, even I did.
(Alternatively, for you younger readers, I give you the kid that loves bacon.)
The Democratic reaction when George HW Bush spoke to students: "when President George H.W. Bush delivered a similar speech on October 1, 1991, from Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington DC, the controversy was just beginning. Democrats, then the majority party in Congress, not only denounced Bush's speech -- they also ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate its production and later summoned top Bush administration officials to Capitol Hill for an extensive hearing on the issue."
Yep. Those open-minded liberal Democrats NEVER would have gotten upset over a president speaking to students...

thank god schools didnt subject our children to this the last man to come along like obama was a leader who c ommitted the most atroicous acts we as mankind have ever seen we called him hilter
We go nuts when Obama wants to tell kids to stay in school, yet Michael Vick, a convicted felon, is making personal appearances at schools in Philadelphia to tell kids how to act, and this apparently is not a problem with parents.
Kinda funny how "old" advice takes on a certain sense of timelessness. it's what makes old people seem so arogant. We are right more often than not, after all.

Left wing radicals define parents who asked for a hall pass for their children yesterday as being racists, intolerant, backward, ignorant while Democrats. The National Education Assc. blasted Bush I for speaking to kids while endorsing Obama. Bush I didn't have the Sec. of Education send school principals (going over Superintendents) lesson plans requesting letters from students on how they can help him achieve his agenda (to get back a letter from the president).
The Wise County Messenger allowed their editor the opportunity to bash parents for how they are raising their kids in the front page opinion article on how parents are teaching fear to their kids. Parents have a God given right and the responsibility to make decisions for their children.
The left wing of the Democratic Party uses fear as the reason for supporting the second admendment, opposing health care and religious freedom. Remember Obama's speech behind closed door at a fund raising event in San Francisio, during the campaign.
Now Barry, a left winger, is pushing the idea that only old, white Americans are opposed to government run health care. Polls show a higher number of Americans over 55 are opposed to the public option. The reason being is if you have a brain, you can understand if medicare funding is cut, health care is rationed. If medical providers reimbursements are cut, health care is rationed. If Barry, the left wing editor of the Messenger and those who support their views, think they will be young forever, they are not looking at the future and what will happen to them under medicare. All they do is make fun of the Death Panels without really understanding how the system works.
But of course, changing everything is what they focus on. They don't take five minutes thinking about how the system of government run health care will work, especially for old white people.
OK, how many of ya'll who opposed Obama's talk to schoolchildren actually heard his speech? Now what was the fuss all about? The guy was encouraging kids to improve themselves while in school - and to stay in school! Wow!! How subversive! So many parents just react, holler and claim to protect their children from knowledge and understanding. How unfortunate.
Looks to me like this kind of reflects on the intelligence of those who are mad. Or maybe we have been misspelling Hitler for over 60 years.
Maybe you should have listened to a speech about staying in school. It amazes me how one minute people are pissed about him not changing things and turning things around quick enough and the next minute they are pissed about him changing things.
Let us remember whose mess he is trying to clean up anyway.
The first character I played on M*A*S*H was General Steele...that's three e's, not all in a row! I came back as a regular cast member as Col. Potter a few years later.
The 400 years comment was making reference to when the US was colonized, not to 1776 when we declared independence and became our own country.
I had no idea wordkyle had a sense of humor. You learn something new every day.
Here's one way a death panel might work. What's significant about the legislation is what's not in it. Here's an example of a hypothetical conversation with a Democrat congressman about the health bill:
WK: Will illegal aliens get free healthcare with this bill? DC: No WK: Then put clear language excluding illegal aliens in the bill. DC: No
WK: Will the Democrat healthcare bill wind up providing government-funded abortions? DC: No WK: Then put clear language excluding coverage for abortions into the bill. DC: No
Our discussions should not be about what will or won't be covered, but why Democrats feel compelled to lie, and hide their real intentions. Since Democrats are equivocating on other matters, the idea that their legislation implicitly authorizes "death panels" is not that farfetched.

OK Barry, you had me there right up to the end, where Joe Friday says the country's been working just fine for 400 years.
400 years???
I think his teleprompter had a hair on it or somethin.

Please explain to me how the death panels will work. Include your sources so I can look them up myself.
BTW, be careful not to choke as you swallow all that right-wing koolaid.
Couple of clarifications...

DFHM 1015 - I notice you neglected to mention Morgan/Potter's role in After MASH. I don't blame you.
There is quite a bit that readers of this blog don't know about me, and a lot more they think they know that they don't.
The bacon clip was priceless...that's exactly how I feel when the health nuts try to take away my bacon....& candy, and chips, and ......
